I think I prefer Christmas Carols to Christmas songs.

My all time favourite is We three Kings, of Orient are.

TonyB06 12-12-2011 03:04 PM

Don't know if it's my favorite, but it's among them:

"This Christmas" by Donny Hathaway ('06).

barbino 12-13-2011 02:58 PM

Gloria In Excelsis Deo - ever since I had to sing it in the grammar school Christmas choir.

This is not meant as a snide comment but rather as an actual question. Do you mean "Angels We Have Heard On High"? or another carol incorporating the words "Gloria In Excelsis Deo"?

Peter

You are right, it is "Angels We Have Heard On High." I have never called it anything but "Gloria in Excelsis Deo" which is actually the chorus part.

Barb:)

I can't remember if I posted in this already or not, but some of my faves:

Carol of the Bells

Pavo and Domingo, O Holy Night
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7uiqRCW6I8

Bocelli, Silent night

Oh, and this is my favorite Christmas SNL skit:

Since I revived the "Least Favorite Carol" thread, I felt I should bump this too!

Mine is still Carol of the Birds http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LE0yEf7O8Dk

but there are 2 new favorites:

Third Day's "Do you Hear What I hear?" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9ioc0gTnH0

and

Casting Crowns' "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7670CXvPX0

I may have said this before, but when I was a child, I thought the choir was singing, "O-re-o! Jesus loves me be-st!". I loved the music but thought the words were really conceited!

honeychile 11-29-2012 04:49 PM

I'm one of those unfortunate people who, while I so rarely cry, will cry at beautiful music. My personal favorite Christmas CD is Twila Paris' It's the Thought with the following tracks:

1. Midwinter
2. Alleluia, Christ Is Born
3. Glory to God (The Angels Song)
4. Away in a Manger
5. White Christmas/Whiter Than Snow
6. It's the Thought
7. I Saw Three Ships
8. This World
9. Down in Yon Forest
10. O Holy Night
11. Hallelujah Chorus
12. Wandering Pilgrim

If you ever catch me listening to it, feel free to sit down and cry with me, or mock me. It's 11 years old, and I still love it!

I couldn't find Twila Paris' version on YouTube, but here's Joan Baez singing Down in Yon Forest (Twila's version segues into O Holy Night):

Did anyone else ever see Young Messiah, about 8-10 years ago?

carnation 12-21-2014 01:23 PM

Bumping for 2014!

Cheerio 12-22-2014 09:12 PM

The Little Drummer Boy, sung by a sweet two-year-old who sings the lyrics as: "Cola Toe Lee, Rum Pah Pum Pum".

aephi alum 12-22-2014 11:27 PM

I think my favorite is "Carol of the Bells".

I love pretty much all traditional Christmas carols. Silent Night, O Holy Night, Adeste Fideles, you name it.

Also, I recently had the opportunity to sing in the choir in a performance of Handel's Messiah, so I'm going to add "For Unto Us A Child Is Born" to the list. It's a PITA to sing, with those long runs on the word "born" - but it sounds so awesome. :D

carnation 12-08-2015 12:06 PM

Bumping this for 2015 since we have a lot of new members!:D

ASTalumna06 12-10-2015 12:40 AM

Rachel Hale, an AST who appeared on American Idol, just came out with her latest song. This might be the only Christmas song that I actually kind of enjoy!

"Can You Hear the Sound (of Christmas)"
https://youtu.be/M2POecNxsGo

NWguy 12-12-2015 12:40 AM

I go back and forth between "What Child is This" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" as my all-time faves. It really depends who's performing it.

Cheerio 12-22-2016 10:18 PM

Heard a nifty Christmas recording over loudspeakers on the street outside a busy tavern the other day that I'd never heard before. It sounded like Peggy Lee singing, and some of the lyrics were similar to: "so if you're very good to people, The Christmas Angel will be good to you".

Now I can't find it online and I don't know the title. Help if you can please? Thank you!

Found it, finally...Peggy Lee's "Don't Forget To Feed The Reindeer".

What good is a "Least Favorite Christmas Carols" thread without the availability of a "Favorite Christmas Carols" thread? Post when ready....

carnation 12-06-2024 07:03 PM

Still "Whence Comes This Rush of Wings"! It's ethereal.

Oh Holy Night, Do You Hear What I Hear?

Cheerio 12-12-2024 10:47 AM

Elvis's version of "Santa Bring My Baby Back To Me" brings back fun old memories of once dancing in the aisles to that music at the local Farm&Fleet.

honeychile 12-18-2024 09:15 AM

"Mary, Did You Know?"
"Christmas In Killarney"
"I Wonder As I Wander"

And so, so many more!

SWTXBelle 12-18-2024 10:22 AM

"Once in Royal David's City"
"In the Bleak Midwinter"

LOL! As I type this, I am on my 53 straight hour of being on call, looking at another 29 before Monday. I'm warm, there's some holiday pay in those hours, and frankly, I'm pretty content!

Cars don't get stolen from the area of Detroit where TSO is playing.

In Detroit? In Detroit they’d steal your car during the light show and come back for your seats during intermission. That’s why honeychile picked up an extra 29 hours of on call. Don’t be surprised if TKE Dude’s car is gone when y’all come out, and a dude in a fur coat is selling pit bull puppies out of TKE Dude’s trunk LMAO!

I have parked in downtown Detroit every single day for decades with no incidents. You have no idea what you're talking about. My company owns half the parking garages around the arenas and the security is amazingly tight. I'm parking in the same garage I park at every time I go in the office. Be real. Also, I'm driving.

For the record, just the mental image of that made me laugh. Wasn’t laughing at the city of Detroit, AGDee, or Mr. AGDee.
