I often wear letters. I like it 'cause I'm old and fat and I carry a gun too. It destroys stereotypes. |
I can't help feeling like it's something only undergrads do but I really like wearing mine so I bought a hooded sweatshirt last year (graduated 3 years ago). I don't have my lavaliere anymomre because I gave it to my second little when I graduated but I do wear a crown necklace sometimes and I have a ZTA sticker on my car (just the letters). I'm glad to hear so many other Greeks still wear their letters well after graduation - now I won't feel so bad about it! And my hoodie always feels comfy and warm :)

12 years later, I still proudly wear my letters.
|
I personally don't wear the big, 2" - front chest center letters anymore. I do sort of feel that "look" is for collegiates. But I am back on campus again (taking undergrad business classes because I want to go to grad school for accounting) and I opted to buy a tote bag with my sorority letters on it. I love it...I think it looks really cool (just a natural canvas color...with the letters stitched on in satin). I also have a lavaliere keychain with my sorority's letters on it.
As an alumna, I would have no issue wearing the polo shirts, and jogging jackets, baby-t's with my sorority's name and letters on it. I just don't own any. LOL...somehow I don't remember having this HUGE selection of clothing items that Greeks have today! Oh how the internet has changed things! |
*Bump* because I bought a new letter sweatshirt today! It's a black hoodie with purple top-letters and white under-letters. With shipping and everything, it was still less than $30! I'm thinking about getting 'Alumna' embroidered beneath them - we'll see!

When I was advising, I bought a lettered shirt (the big letters) with the chapter. I only wear that when doing philanthropic activities with other sisters.
I regularly wear long and short sleeved shirts with the small letters (or embroidered ones). I just bought a shirt with a cute little lion and the words "Alpha Delta Pi Alumna" on it!! About 10 yrs ago, I bought a sweatshirt with our crest printed on one side, "Property of ADPi" on the reverse. Our giftmart used to sell it. I would love to find another sweatshirt with the crest bc this one has become a bit tattered. |
I still wear letters a lot, my lavaliere every day and I have the window cling on my car. I have a sorority wall in my home office and it has my paddle, certificates and group convention photo. And I even sleep in my letters - it gets cold in Jersey and our Penguin Shop had these great flannel lounge pants with penguins all over and Theta Phi Alpha on the waist band. Very comfy! I like wearing letters when I do errands and such - like Tom said, you can strike up some interesting conversations when you meet fellow Greeks.
|
I wear one of my sweatshirts constantly that I bought from the actives for an event last year, and I usually sleep in letters.
Both of my necklaces broke, but I wore them a lot before and was complimented on them a lot (one was a nameplate w letters that I designed) I also have a decal on my car :) |
Since I'm an alumnae initiate, I didn't get to wear letters in college. I wear them now - not obnoxiously, of course - in part because I work at the school where I advise, and I just want to advertise! (Plus, since I was *just* initiated, it's really funny to see the surprise on people's faces when they see me in letters for the first time. :-) )

Cool groovy!
I wear them every chance I get! Oh, to some on here, it is living in the past, but, I wear them because I am still a proud member of My GLO, LXA! |
I still wear my letters! My sweatshirts and tees are some of the most comfortable clothes I own! lol.. I also find myself ordering something when I receive a new issue of my sorority's magazine! ;)

If you go on Greek gear and click on sorority hoodies (on the left side of the page) it will take you to a ton of hoodies...You will see the one with the crests on it....Click on that and it will take you to more hoodies...Once you get there you will notice a sweatshirt with ZBT letters on it-click on browse...it will take you to a few more hoodies but, you will notice the crest hoodie as the first hoodie in the row...if you click on this one-you can now order.....Hope you get what you are looking for!!!! |
I wear my letters a lot still. I believe that they are mine and i wear them with pride. I also get stopped sometimes and its fun to strike up a random conversation especailly to find out its a sister. Wear on, and if they are tattered might I suggest you order a new one from your sorority.

wearing letters
Is it o.k. to wear greek letters to work?
Our business is business casual, but some co-workers wear their greek letters almost every day if not every day. I have a problem with that dress code. |

When to wear
It is a professional establishment, we are allowed to wear jeans on fridays just to give you an idea. We work with the community and sometimes they don't know any better and think that greek organizations are like "animal house", so it sends a negative message.

WHEN TO WEAR
POLOS, T-SHIRTS, JACKETS, HATS, CAPS, SOMETIMES DOUBLE LETTERS OR COVERED HEAD TO TOE IN THE GEAR.
AKA |
IT IS NOT A GREEK LIFE OFFICE.
|
I just graduated and I of course continue to wear my Tri Delta letters and t-shirts. I have lots of little items like keychain, headband, bracelets, necklaces that I like to wear around.

Are you worried about your company or about yourself? |
WHEN TO WEAR
I am worried about the company, not myself, Remember I am Greek, but I am respectfully greek. Wearing letters head to toe is in disrecpect of the office dress code. I believe in being appropriate wearing letter everyday from head to toe is not appropriate. That is the reason dress down Fridays was established.

If wearing letters head to toe is "in disrecpect" of the office dress code, then I think you've answered your own question. Unless you work in HR, I think you should probably just worry about what you're wearing -- let them handle it. FYI |
LOVE my new AXO flip flops....wear my silver engraved bracelet lots and lots....in the dead of winter, wear my sweatshirt with Vera Bradley fabric letters with my sweats to the Y.....this from an O-L-D alum---class of '82! Oh, and I have my letters and crest in my car's back window....me on the driver side, my husband's letters and crest on the right - a little emblem for my oldest tucked in there, too! That's why I'm...
I'm still a sister! |
GreekAlphaSoup. What fraternity exactly is your husband?

I'm thinking Pike . . . |
It was Pike. The greek system at my school is really small, so I wasn't aware of their colors. And it happens that Garnet and Gold are also Psi u's colors. Now I will be leaving this thread to the alumni.

Brotherhood is forever
As is sisterhood(i'm assuming? can't speak for that?) but...of course its fine for you to wear your letters you worked for those letters...... you have the right to wear them |
I still have my letters on the back of my car windshield, and I often wear my comfy windbreaker/jacket/sweatshirt which has my letters on it to the movie theater.
|
There's always resorting to children to promote the GLO-haha! I bought these cute AOII runner shorts (kid sized) through our national store and DD wears those around sometimes. I figure, she's a legacy--they were made for someone like her...let her do it now, because while I dare to dream, who knows? Someday, she might not get the chance (or want to be) part of the organization!
I wear my AOII fleece pullover to Arthritis Walks and sometimes even to DD's dance classes. Also, have fleece pajama bottoms that are from the AOII Emporium. |
I will admit that I do not wear lettered shirts as often as I did as a collegian (not as many events and such to wear them to obviously). So I bought the indented triangle necklace from HQ.
|
I have a necklace, too! It makes it really easy to always wear letters.
|
I just graduated last semester so I still wear my letters. I'm waiting for my birthday as I'm hoping to get another (I passed the only one I had to my little) Tri-Delta necklace or bracelet. Having jewelry really does make it easier to wear letters or sport sorority pride.
