Ok...who has the bamboo shoots?

tunatartare 07-18-2006 11:18 AM

I believe that's Jill1228

Drolefille 07-18-2006 11:30 AM

I'm an expert at "Chinese Water torture"...

MJo19 07-18-2006 11:35 AM

Chinese Water Torture?!?! eek! Ok...I just got an email from my sponsor apologizing for not calling last night (she fell asleep on the couch watching tv..I can't count how many times I have done that too) and that she promises she will call tonight. She just wants to talkto me about changes in the AI program for this GLO and that it is NOT bad..geez..leave me on pins and needles!!! After she calls tonight, I promise the first place I will go is right here..believe me..it is just as tortureous (is that even a word?) for me too as I am wanting to tell you as much as you want to know!!

Drolefille 07-18-2006 11:38 AM

Darn, she confessed....

Well that's good news! Especially if it's specifically NOT bad news :)

Ok, you get a reprieve.. but only for 24 hours :)

(How do you torture corn?)

Just FYI MJo, you may have inadvertantly given away who you are looking into, by saying they are making changes to their AI program. I'm sure it's not a big deal, and those who are in that sorority will know, and those who aren't, won't.

anytime

MJo19 07-18-2006 02:01 PM

I don't think I gave anything away..if any ladies of that GLO are reading my posts, I don't think they would say anything..I don't think changes like this are widely advertised to the general public..it is normally a sister's only type of info.

SmartBlondeGPhB 07-18-2006 02:22 PM

I think her point was more that all of us who know our group isn't making changes will know right away who it isn't and by process of elimination we'll get close to who it is.

Right. I wasn't criticizing, or anything. And it's fine to share with us, but just realize that there are some nosey people out there who would take the time to find out who it is.

And actually, I personally wouldn't have a problem with someone coming right out and saying "I'm persuing AI, and I'm looking into KKG and TPhiA" (using those two as an example for a reason;) ) as long as they then realize that discrestion is KEY. I believe it's a choice the person needs to make for themselves.

You got that right.

Personally, I have espoused discretion from pretty much the beginning and keeping everything quiet. I think there is little to be gained by announcing to a bunch of strangers who may or may not have the best intentions towards you: '"I want to AI...everybody try to guess who I am pursuing!!", but whatever..... <shrug>.

It's not even that hard. All we really need to do is have people post "it's not us" for each group that isn't making changes to their program and we would pretty quickly have a list of the "nots". Combine that with the clues and it probably wouldn't take much.

For example.....

It's not us, we aren't making changes to our program (thought I wish we would).

MJo19 07-18-2006 06:44 PM

If those people who are nosy really care that much about who they think I am pursuing, then go for it. Try and find it out. Go ahead and say it's not me..or it's not my group. I am keeping it quiet and posting clues only for those who enjoying guessing (believe it or not there are some people out there who I just think might enjoy it).

*I know AlphaFrog was just being kind and telling me that and I appreciate it.

*CutiePie, I'm glad what you did worked out for you in your situation. Thank you for your advice, but I don't think I ever told people I wanted them to guess. They came to me first. If people don't have the best intentions, then I will get past them.

*SmartBlonde you are right, it isn't Gamma Phi. We can take that one off the list. I don't know why you felt compelled to post an example, I think everyone knew what was meant before you came out and said it wasn't Gamma Phi.

To avoid any more issues, until I get a definite yes or no, I'm not posting on this thread. You may PM me if you want to know what is going on. Feel free to post and say it's not my GLO if you feel like you need to. Maybe you can find it out. The corn has been picked for the day.

Jimmy Choo 07-18-2006 08:21 PM

Well.... I would say someone did torture the corn and made it pop!!!

MJo19: I will be PMing you b/c I do want to know and b/c you are really sweet and kind and you have been awesome for me to talk to when I have been down in the dumps during this process. And not to mention you have really come to my aid when I have needed it. You are fantastic!!!! :) :) :)

Why can't we all just have some fun???!!!

AXi1257 07-18-2006 10:02 PM

I am one who thinks it's fun to guess. I'll patiently wait for the official word from your potential new sisterhood. Your enthusiasm alone tells me you would be a great asset in any sisterhood! Good Luck! :)

Ditto to all the above...! Good luck and sorry for the party poopers

navane 07-19-2006 12:26 AM

I agree with AlphaFrog, the level of information to reveal should be an individual choice. From my own experiences, I have found that AI can be a long and, in some ways, a lonely process. GC provides an outlet for people to share their excitement and to know that they are not alone in this. I don't think the PNAMs mean any harm....they just want to make a connection.

Oh, that is so very true. I know in my case, I am literally all alone right now. My biggest cheerleader, my husband, is in Iraq, and I'm lucky to be able to talk to him once or twice a month. My very good friend has left Germany for the summer to be with her dad who had bypass surgery. So that leaves my long distance friends and you guys on the board to share the journey.

I liken this board to the camaraderie I saw built during Rush on my campus when I transferred. The girls going through the process together seemed to really bond. They got together after all the parties and shared their thoughts and dreams, their frustrations, their ultimate goals. The excitement was almost contagious. Now, I know that AI is different than recruitment in so many different ways, this being one of them. The PNAM is highly unlikely, short of this site, to have people around her going through the same thing, to bond with, to share with. We're all excited. We're all a little anxious, wondering about our futures and our potential new sisterhood. That is why I am personally so thankful for this site.
But for the sake of others, I'll probably just PM for now, or reply to others' threads.

Re: stag jump

Since I'm not a cheerleader, PLEASE do not take this as gospel truth, but I think it's where you tuck in your arms, crouch slightly, and bend your knees. Then you jump up and out, like you are trying to form an X. I only know it because a friend who was also a cheerleader tried to teach me in our dance class (way back when we were 8 yrs. old and still thought leg warmers were cool....)

Wait. I still wear leg warmers. Never mind....

ok, not to be a complete dork or anything, but the X jump described here is a "spread eagle". A stag jump starts the same, but in the air, the front thigh is parallel to the ground and the knee is bent so the calf is perpendicular to the floor. the back leg is straight, toe pointed, like a split. If you look at the jumper in the air, they look like a running deer, hence the name.

And that is definitely all you wanted to know about cheerleading, but didn't care enough to ask. :D

I am so glad someone else took that one because I didn't have the foggiest clue how to describe a stag jump.

We're all in a very "cheery" mood lately.
