Chipolte (sp). I don't get the hype.
|
I don't get Moe's. The one in Oxford actually closed a few years ago. It was like nasty Taco Bell food! I guess I'm alone in liking Wendy's, I love their spicy chicken sandwhich. Their fries can be gross if not cooked properly.
I totally agree about Applebee's! I mean WTH! The one here in Oxford is never good and I always feel like the service is awful too. (Note: Oxford is finally getting a free standing Chick-Fil-A. So it will be interesting to see how good it is. The one in the Student Union is okay but not the greatest.) |

My choices:
Subway - Subway IMHO is played out; it fell into the age-old "corporate trap": when it was lesser known, the quality of its food was far superior, but when it became a big corporate "household name", its quality went into the toilet Chipotle - I had it for lunch so many times, it's played out for me. McDonalds - 'Nuff said Taco Bell - 'Nuff said CiCi's Pizza - I ain't into all you can eat buffets, the food looks like it's been on display all day, even when it's fresh out the oven. More often than not, buffet food tastes stale and/or burned. I actually love Burger King; it's almost become one of my four food groups. You BK haters don't know what you're talking about. :D White Castle I used to love as a kid; it was tasty and inexpensive; nowadays it gives me bubbleguts something awful. I still eat at Bob Evans, even though I made the mistake of taking a date there, and she said that their food tasted like "old folk" food. Seeing that the vast majority of its customers were old folks, I admit that she had a point. A dang good one at that. Hardee's: When I was a kid, I begged my parents to take me to Hardees and they would not do it. I ate at Hardees for the 1st time in 2002 near the U. of Cincinnati campus. It was the nastiest food I ever had. It tasted like 90% salt! Shoot, with all that salt, even a deer would pass on eating that. |

Good luck with the Chick-Fil-A, they are pretty hit and miss in my experience. |
I've never had a bad Chik-fil-a experience. LOVE them.
I do eat Subway, but only because it is the only fast sub shop I've found with a chicken breast sandwich. Burger King- NO. McDonald's- Every now and then. Mostly fries and McFlurries. |
Try to eat at home!
Don't need the big bugers and fries, pizza, or other fat food. LOL! |

And just for the record, I love Moe's. Quote:

Does anyone remember the Black Eyed Pea or Po Folks? Haven't had really good red beans & rice since they disappeared. |
Honeychile, my daddy used to take us to Po' Folks in Davie, FL! GOOD chicken fried EVERYTHING! The last time I went, I was 9 or 10 years old. I think I ate at Black Eyed Pea once that I can remember, but when I was very small.
We have Bob Evans in FL. The only one I've ever seen is in Lakeland. But I think there are more. We do have a lot of old folks that like to eat those things. I've never eaten there, but who doesn't enjoy simple oatmeal or grits? Especially when your teeth are giving out? I would NEVER take a date there though... |

Kind of the same situation with White Castle. I grew up LOVING it. Now, the prices have gone up (even though the prices aren't high, they're not reasonable) and it just isn't that great.. nor are the after effects.. (one of my brothers says 'sliders slide in and sliders slide out') But hey, I still get the craving every few weeks. |

I'm not a big fan of all you can eat pizza (CiCi's or knockoffs)... rubber! I also hate BK, which tastes like a soggy charcoal briquette.

When I was little, I refused to eat at Po' Folks because I thought it was for poor people. |

Popeye's is still going strong in a number of states scattered all over the US. They are also found in the UK and Germany. One of my cousins in New Orleans throws a Popeyes and Champagne Party during Mardi Gras for an "After the Ball is Over" very late party in which the menu consists very simply of buckets of Popeyes and a small ocean of Veuve Cliquot. There is something about a large group of people in ball gowns and white tie and tails standing around gnawing on Popeyes and guzzeling the fizz. Ah, New Orleans! Now, as to fast food in general, it seems to me that the only time one should choose a fast food joint would be when you are on an Interstate Highway, you have been driving for what seems like forever, and you see a sign announcing "last exit for 175 miles" and there are notices for gas and fast food at that exit. |

There are enough Popeye's in South Florida (not a lot, but enough). I also ate at one in Atlanta (it was in this horrible place next to the metro where people were standing around and a woman was begging with her baby who was sitting in a very nice designer stroller )
|
Totally OT, but maybe the stroller was donated, or a present. Just because she had the stroller doesn't mean she paid for it. In fact, I don't know anyone who's paid for their baby's first stroller--usually it's a shower present.

I personally think Pollo Tropical is overrated! The food is not that great for the price and the service always sucks! |

When my one British friend came to visit recently, do you all know where she wanted to go? Bob Evans! I could have cried. |
Golden corral. Any restaurant with a sneeze guard means the food has already been violated in some way the health department doesn't recommend. I don't like to eat food that's had a bad touch.
|
can't remember if I posted this or not, but Zaxby's. large portions but no flavor.
|
NONE OF THESE PLACES ARE RATED HIGH ENOUGH TO FOSBURY FLOP OVER THE MYTHICAL BAR NEEDED TO MAKE THEM OVERRATED.
|
I'm sorry but I find McDonalds to be overrated. It may be a familar source of comfort for some and may be an "All American" tradition to others, but I find the food for the most part disgusting. I feel the same way about Hardees and Burger King.
|
All fast food is overrated.
|
I guess it also depends on what you think of as "fast food."
If you're talking just the big chain places, then yes, they're all overrated to some extent. However, if you're talking about the local places (i.e. Anna's Taqueria and Eagle's Deli in Boston, Five Guys in DC, etc.), then I think there's an argument to be made that those are legitimately good food establishments. I've always said that you can get good quality food at places like that. If you think I'm overrating it, watch an episode of Anthony Bourdain, or look through a Zagat guide...while there's obviously something to be said about top-shelf, five star establishments, you can get solid food at small local joints. I also have to say, that when I hear someone immediately dismiss a place out of hand because it's a hole in the wall, or a grab and go establishment, I have serious questions about that person's taste in food. |
