I don't want to start a brawl or anything, but are rap concerts actually good? All the ones I've seen have been terrible, but then again I don't enjoy rap that much in the first place. It just seems like a lot of album stuff would be harder to replicate well in a live setting (and this is the case in my personal experience).

Though, Outkast was good live, but its Outkast, I tend to think they probably out-artist the majority of rappers.

cutiepatootie 04-29-2007 10:52 PM

Well, I got to see Run-DMC, and for free no less. I loved it, but then most of the songs I knew by heart anyway. Run-DMC pretty much just had rythym tracks for their songs, and Jay would scratch and stuff.

SWTXBelle 04-30-2007 09:24 AM

I went to an Aerosmith/Motley Crue concert with my daughter this Nov.
Before that, back in the day:
Blue Oyster Cult
Styx
Heart
REO Speedwagon
Chicago
Foghat
. . . I don't really like concerts, truth be told.

SigmaChiCard 04-30-2007 10:41 PM

Not too much since last time.....

The Queers
Saul Wiliams
Brett Dennen
Gin Blossoms
DCFC (again)
Ted Leo & the Pharmacists
Ex-Wives

And just got my tickets to see The National

and probably getting tickets to see:
Morrissey, and
!!! w/ Holy F*ck

Furious I missed one of my absolute favorite bands Saturday Looks Good to Me

kdonline 05-01-2007 04:53 PM

I've been going to concerts for close to 30 years. I can't even name how many/who I've seen...ranging from the (original) Village People to Elton John to the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

This Sunday, we're going to see Morrissey (my first time seeing him). And in June, we're going to see The Police (I last saw them in 1983).

VandalSquirrel 05-01-2007 05:27 PM

I'm seeing The Roots tomorrow!

But here's a small list from my past, but it is in no way complete, and yes it is completely laughable.

Kenny Rogers
Naughty By Nature
Guns n Roses
The Jets
Blues Travelers
Reel Big Fish
Destiny's Child (when there were four members!)
Bon Jovi
Violent Femmes
Candle Box

kchaptergphib 06-05-2007 01:29 AM

oh, so many... a lot are emo punk groups, but there are some less-mainstream hip hop groups, some classic rock, and some pop thrown in for fun

The Ataris
Atmosphere
Brand New
Brother Ali
BB King
Ray Charles
Dave Matthews Band (Under the Table and Dreaming tour, before they were "Dave")
Dashboard Confessional
Bob Dylan
Finch
Fall Out Boy
Flogging Molly
The Getup Kids
Goldfinger
Good Charlotte
Immortal Technique
The Juliana Theory
Jonny Lang
Lucky Boy's Confusion
Matchbook Romance
Matchbox 20
Motion City Soundtrack
MXPX
New Found Glory
*NSYNC (I'll admit it)
Reel Big Fish
The Roots
Sage Francis
Saves The Day
Paul Simon
Something Corporate
The Starting Line
SUM 41
Taking Back Sunday
Susan Tedeschi
Weezer
Wyclef

many of these folks I've seen more than once, I'm sure there are some I've forgotten to list, and then there are those that I can't remember if I've seen live or not- like The All American Rejects and NOFX and the Bouncing Souls...

I'm seriously debating going to Lollapalooza for the first time this summer. I would LOVE to see Pearl Jam and a few of the groups on the bill I've seen before and really enjoyed... but $200 for a concert (even if it's 3 days) seems SOOOO EXPENSIVE!

RitaMae1908 06-05-2007 07:04 AM

Most recently...
John Legend
Brian McKnight & Joe

OneTimeSBX 06-05-2007 08:55 AM

immature- my very first concert!
jaheim
kanye west
usher
john legend
jesse powell
glenn lewis
kiki wyatt
avant

greeneyedDPhiE 06-05-2007 03:46 PM

Some of these bands are a little obscure, but someone may know of them. Though I won't bother listing how many times I've seen some of them, I will admit I saw my favorite band 18 times before they broke up.

Jump, Little Children
Slow Runner
Sufjan Stevens (I was front row. It was amazing..)
Andrew Bird
Ted Leo & The Pharmacists
Modern Skirts
David Mead
Weezer
The Killers
Maroon 5
Jason Mraz
Ben Folds
Bain Mattox
Tin Cup Prophete
Aerosmith
Chicago
The Doobie Brothers
The Brilliant Inventions
Common Rotation
David Ryan Harris
Butch Walker
Lit
Live
Paul Simon

I'm also going to Bonnaroo for the first time in about a week. To say I'm excited would be an understatement...

Have fun, but please get ready to sit in traffic from Chattanooga to Manchester.

AlexMack 06-05-2007 03:54 PM

In order:

NSYNC (I was 16 go to hell!)
Coldplay
Nine Inch Nails

I'm fussy about concerts because I feel if I really don't like a few tracks on the album I don't want to suffer through them when I can't press skip.

PeppyGPhiB 06-05-2007 04:12 PM

I'm seeing The Police tomorrow night!

On the good news front, I'll be seeing Genesis for the 5th time in September.

ThetaPrincess24 06-05-2007 08:14 PM

Aerosmith (twice)
Garbage
Boyz II Men
Brandy
Alanis Morissette
several local bands
Celtic Woman (four times)
The Eagles
Tesla
Styx
Def Leppard
The Fixx

I had tickets to see Celine Dion, Alanis a second time, and Tori Amos but for reasons I'd rather not discuss those didn't work out :(

You'll have a good time, but it will never again be as good as 2002 and 2003. (also went in '05, pretty good as well.)

The best festivals, in my opinion, are the All Good, Vegoose, Wakarusa, ACL, Telluride Bluegrass, and Mountain Jam

I'm not sure which section, I just know we're in the first row of the balcony since my boyfriend didn't want anyone standing in front of him. haha...

SOPi_Jawbreaker 06-06-2007 11:47 PM

Linkin Park/Mudvayne/Xhibit/Blindside

The Sugar Hill Gang
The Dixie Chicks

Busta Rhymes

snoop dogg

Engelwood 06-08-2007 10:25 PM

I was lucky enough to catch the Up In Smoke tour back in 2000. That had Dre, Snoop, Ice Cube and others. I've gotta say that was the BEST concert I've ever been to.

My favorite however was when I caught DJ Quik at the Hollywood HOB back in the summer of 2002. I even got a little segment on the Visualism DVD if anybodies ever seen that.

Recently I got to go backstage at the Tech N9ne concert here in Oregon.

How was TI? I like him but I don't know if his catalog is strong enough for me to shell out 50 bucks to go see him. Perhaps after this new album comes out.

On the other hand, I saw a youtube video where TI got hit with a bottle and threatened to have the guy who threw it "offed"! It seemed like a good time!!

Beachbrat 06-08-2007 10:50 PM

Where did you see Frankie and why can't I ever see CT for free? :)

CutiePie2000 06-12-2007 06:11 PM

Frankie: I saw at the UBC campus in their gym, believe it or not.
B-52s: I waited outside (I didn't have tickets) and someone actually left the concert early and gave me their tickets. True story.
Matchbox 20: I know a girl who knew one of the roadies. I emailed him and he set aside tix for me and my friend at Will Call. It was great. It was the same girl who arranged the tix to Cheap Trick. I met Robin Zander and everything with my backstage pass (yes, I know...whoop di do..LOL).
