Elephant Walk 10-22-2006 11:42 PM

most of my classes are like 30% greek... taking business and poli sci classes will do that

1 pike
1 phi gam
1 sae
1 kappa sig
1 zeta
2 aopis
1 kd
1 kappa

couple others, that's just a freshman comm class.

ColumbiaPike 10-22-2006 11:57 PM

In one of my English classes there's an AEPi and in Art History theres a Delta Sig. We're only 10% Greek here.

tunatartare 10-23-2006 12:11 AM

I'm actually impressed that Columbia is even that high.

ColumbiaPike 10-23-2006 12:18 AM

At the beginning of each semester, especially fall, the streets with all of our houses are full of people. As the semester develops, though, that dies down because everyone has too much work. Sucks.

AGDem 10-23-2006 12:35 AM

Let's see, the orgs represented in my classes are:

Sig Kap
Sig Tau
Phi Kap
D Chi
Tri-Sig
Beta
AKL
ATO
DST
Phi Sig

And I think that's it...

Is the Pike house on the same street with all of the other houses? I don't think I've been in any of them, but I've been on that street quite a few times. I've been to a couple of parties there, but I don't think they were fraternity parties.

texgal 10-23-2006 10:47 AM

Gosh, y'all have small amounts of Greeks in your classes! Almost every class I take is ~20-25% Greek and I'm not even in major "known" for being heavily Greek. Maybe it's just my year and the progression of classes I'm taking, but there are a lot of us in each class I take. And it's not like my school is heavily Greek either - around 15-20% I think?

Most of the houses are on either 113th or 114th streets between Broadway and Amsterdam. Pike is located at 536 W 114th street. When you say you went to parties there, what buildings were these parties in? Were they in the brownstones (townhouses)?

tunatartare 10-23-2006 04:38 PM

I don't know. We never went there until after pregaming in my friend's room followed by West End (RIP- that was a good place). From what little I do remember of the location, it was accross the street from where the fraternity houses were, I think it may have been in a real building and not a brownstone.

^^^ My grad school classes were similarly Greek-unpopulated. I was the ONLY Greek in every class I took. When I was teaching (as a GA), however, it was amazing how many students were Greek. It just struck me as odd that even though the undergrad population was heavily Greek, once those students progressed to grad school (at least in my department), Greek life just suddenly vanished.

There are lots of Greeks in my classes now, but only a few have caught on to the fact that I am. In fact, after class one night, a DG came up to me apologizing for having to miss the next week's class, and she said, "I won't be here next week because I have a sorority meeting, and this is one that is a lot more involved than most.... [insert too much info here].... I know it sounds like a lame excuse, but there's really nothing I can do about it." I just smiled and nodded; I couldn't believe she let so much slip!

giggle528 09-05-2007 06:15 PM

Scandia 09-15-2007 06:30 AM

There was a Sigma Delta Tau member in 3 of my classes back in library school. But I did not know she was an SDT until I saw it in her MySpace profile much later. She never wore her letters.

One of my A Phi O brothers entered my library school a year after I did, but I did not take any classes with her.

I posted this earlier, but I wanted to update it, since I recently found out that my Intro To Rehabilitation prof is a Sig Ep alumnus (I think from John Carroll Univ). Didn't know it until he casually mentioned having lived in a fraternity house.

I also found out that there's a guy in my Psyschosocial Impact of Disability class who is an SAE alumnus from Marshall University. I wore a philanthropy shirt to class last week, and he told me that the Tri Sigmas were their favorite sorority when he was active.

I think there are four ADPi's in my Principles of Teaching & Learning class (in which there are only 14 students), and two of us Coyotes.

In my Inorganic Chem lab, there are an AChiO and a Phi Mu that sit across the lab table from me.

In my Human Dev lecture, there's one other OPhiA and a Phi Kappa Sigma...not sure about anyone else.
