You would think that since the buttons are probably sewn on by a machine that they'd be stuck on good but this isn't the first time I've had this issue with the inside button on Express pants. It happened about a year ago with my Editor pants but I had washed those several times before the button fell off. It's sad when my own sewing (and I'm definitely far from being a good sewer!) keeps the button on better than the manufacturer!

ETA: I saw your comment about Victoria's Secret. Their bras are pretty well made. I haven't had issues with the newer styles. A few years ago, they had a bra called I think the Miracle Bra that would get all bunched up at the cup after washing it. The surface of the cup was made to be smooth but it would get a ripple thing going after a few washes. You couldn't wear it under a tighter shirt unless you wanted to look like you had lumpy boobs. As for their cotton panties, I agree with you. They don't last as long as I think they should and they should last a while considering VS isn't cheap!!!
I must say I'm partial to the Very Sexy bra. It's amazing.

Funny so many people have had problems with their editor pants. I have two pairs that are now maybe two years old and still have a hem, and all the buttons. I do agree that in general their things aren't as well made now.

ADqtPiMel 05-15-2005 01:17 PM

The button fell off my Editor pants too, ZTAngel.

Aside from button issues, I love Express pants. I actually bought 3 pairs yesterday for only $80 (yay sales!) However, I think most of their shirts are not that attractive and way too expensive.

I like Express, but it's funny b/c it goes in waves. Sometimes I walk in and see a ton of stuff I like and other times, there is not a single thing I would want. And I refuse to pay some of the outrageous prices when I know it is going to get marked down relatively soon. I MISS THE FAST CASH--I bought a ton of stuff from Express 2 years ago and I still love it all and I have not had any problems with the quality of anything I have gotten from there. Of course, I have way too many clothes, so most stuff doesn't really get too much wear!

I was just in there the other day and now with purchases I think you are getting a coupon for $$ off if you buy an editor or correspondent pant.

Just happened to be in the mall today and noticed that Express is starting their summer sale...all of a sudden their clothes become reasonably priced. Though I did see a dress that was so cute, but there is no way I was going to pay $128 for it.

I just hit up the summer sale- I dropped a pretty penny there the other day. Got some editor pants and jeans for $40 a pop.

SigKapBling 05-26-2005 02:10 PM

both pairs of my editors lost them hem in the left leg.... and right before i went to bring them back to exchange them, the butt developed a real large and nice hole  i told the sales lady, and showed her, both the hem and the butt and she was like ohh this happens ALL the time... why would you say that to someone who just spend $79 on a pair of pants?!?
they are pretty good w/returning damaged stuff like that though - so is VS - one of the underwires popped out of my very expensive (lol) bra and i brought it in with tears in my eye bc it was my favorite one and the sales lady was VERY nice.. they exchanged it for the same thing, no questions asked...

as much as i like these stores, they went so high up in price but lack in quality lately :( there older stuff was so much better, quality wise

starryeyed 05-26-2005 03:20 PM

If you want basics from Express then go to TJMAXX. They always have stuff from Express for less than half the original price. You aren't going to find their good pants there, but for their t-shirts I'd definately look there first!

yeah, VS bras are now like $40 something whent hey used to be $30 something.

tri-d 05-26-2005 05:30 PM

VS bra inflation

^yeah, I pretty much only buy from VS now twice a year at their semi-annual sales--this was the first year that they actually have a lot of popular colors on clearance online anyway. I think I can count on one hand the number of times I have purchase a bra for full price from there.

AnonAlumna 06-21-2005 08:47 AM

I know this is a little old, but I just found it!

I worked at Express from 98-99. That was when the clothes were still cute and practical. I use to buy all my 'staple' pieces there. I don't even go near their anymore! Everything is so trendy, and a lot of it is pretty slutty....although those are sometimes interchangeable words.

The last time I bought anything from there was about four years ago, and they've held up alright. I DO have pants and dresses from like 93 that are in excellent condition! The quality has certainly decreased with the times. I just don't care for their 'image' anymore either.

tunatartare 06-21-2005 09:21 AM

They just had a $20 off sale on all jeans there and I bought a pair there. Express is one of the few places I can buy jeans in because it's one of the few places that seems to realize that not all women are like 5'8" and make short sizes.

My advice: go to major dept. stores and splurge on designer jeans and pants. It's the best move I have ever made. :D

Agreed.. I only venture into stores like Gap, Express, and Limited for basic stuff like camis. Everything is I go strictly designer.. the quality is just so much better

ZTAngel 06-21-2005 07:17 PM

Does anyone know when their next big sale is? That's the only time I'll shop there. It's so depressing to buy a shirt from them for $40 only to see it for $10 during their sale. And you know they're still making a huge profit even when selling that shirt for $10!!!!

That's happened to be with a few of my VS bras. I just started handwashing them and it got better.

agreed - I think they are meant to be handwashed

I was packing to move out of my apartment and I remembered this Express halter top I bought back in 2001. I've gained weight so I no longer wear a L but this shirt was an L. I tried it on and it still fit. Its sad though because I probably couldn't find anything in Express now that I could wear because they very rarely carry XL and the clothes are so cheap.

DC_Zeta1920 08-19-2005 08:40 AM

I tend to only go to Express when they have a sale. Its pointless to spend full price when a month or two later they reduce the price. As far as their Editor pants, I have had issues with only one pair. They let me return them for a new pair of equal or lesser value so I couldn't complain.

I've been shopping at Banana Republic more than usual. It may be more expensive but the quality is alot better.

tunatartare 08-19-2005 09:19 AM

When I was in Boston I went into Express to buy jeans. Seeing as I'm a size 8, 5'1.5", and have both an ass and hips, buying jeans for me is never easy. I tried on every style of jeans that they have in the store and not one of them worked for me. When the saleswoman came up to me to see if I needed any help, I told her that I needed jeans and when she saw everything that I've already tried on, she basically told me that she needed to go help another customer because they didn't have anything for my body in the store. Lovely.

Beanblossom1 08-20-2005 08:40 PM

I went to The Express over Christmas - looking for basic work pants. I thought they were too expensive for the quality and fit - not to mention I would never ever get by wearing something like that in my office. I don't mind paying a lot for clothing, but it has to be good quality and something I will get a lot of use out of.

I was laughing out loud about the Charlotte Russe comments. Some of my girlfriends are nutso about their clothes and I've always thought they looked kind of trashy. Come on girls - we are in our early 30's and shouldn't try to dress like teen-agers. But the guys seem to fall head-over-heels for them rather than Miss Conservative Ann Taylor, Talbots, Harolds. (sigh)

And I agree about all of the Limited stores hounding you when you walk into their stores. I think its fine to say hello, let me know if you need anything, etc. But I get so sick and tired of being followed in a store and hovered over.

I'm embarrassed to admit this - my favorite sweater in the 6th grade was from the 5-7-9 store. lol

Just my two cents.

ZTAngel 01-16-2006 02:39 PM

Has anyone had trouble returning pants to either Express or The Limited without a receipt? I bought a pair of pants from The Limited about two months ago, wore them twice and the hem has already come out of the bottom. I see that others have complained about that sort of problem in this thread so I'd imagine The Limited has to know about it. Just wondering if anyone has gotten a hard time from them when trying to return or exchange without a receipt.

I'm working for Victoria's Secret for the holiday season... and in our (limited Inc associates) defense, they make us do it. Our managers will cut our hours if we aren't telling all the "clients" about the great deals going on, the newest merchandise, and ESPECIALLY the credit card. We don't get commission or anything... but they base promotions and raises based on "performance" and are HARDCORE about sales.

They break the day into two hour "segments" and have goals for each segment: of general sales, bra sales, credit, and dollar amount per transaction.

Its great to know I work my ass off doing thsi and get paid next to NOTHING while the people in Ohio at Limited Corporate get the benifits of great sales in the form of stock options and such.

UKDaisy 01-16-2006 04:24 PM

I actually went into Express the other day and found some cute dressy party shirts. They are gonna be my 24th bday shirts. Got them super cheap too!!!!

That's like the first time in years....

lifesaver 01-16-2006 05:37 PM

For some reason, Express men's dress shrits fit me really well. Sometimes they are $49 and then two weeks later they are $19. Another two weeks later they are back up at $49. Back in the day when it was 'structure' I wouldnt shop there because the clothes were cheaply made and not very cool. I bought a couple of the dress shirts there arfter a buddy reccomended I try them and I've been pleased with them so far.

The only store observation I had was that the place was filthy. All the stock looked like it had been laying on the floor in a warehouse and driven over by a forklift. There was also big ass dust bunnies all over the counter area by the registers. If you cant keep the store clean, why should i shop there?

ZTAngel 01-16-2006 06:46 PM

Random comment....

Has anyone else noticed the stench that comes from the bags they give you during their big sales? It's the bags they give you when you walk in so that you can put all the stuff you want to try on into them. They have a very mildewy scent. Every Express store I've been in during those sales have smelly bags and I've been to Express stores all over Orlando, South Florida and Metro Atlanta. You would think that someone at least one of the stores would notice and think, "Maybe we should send them for a round through the spin cycle...."

Radiant_One 02-11-2006 08:30 AM

I only purchase their Editor Edition slacks. As for anything else, NO. Their shirts are way too expensive, you can go to NYC & Co. and get the exact same top for 29.50
