"but it will also show everyone to whom you offer a toothpick that you belong to Theta Nu Xi" LOL

Because everyone uses those to hold toothpicks...

That was my thought -- why not just call them shot glasses?

really KingsKraft?

This is actually hysterical, because I just attended my chapter's last meeting of the semester, and a few of the sisters are in Lion Ambassadors (an organization on campus), and part of what they do is to "promote" the school. When announcements came around, they held up Penn State "toothpick holders" that they were selling. They said, "I know what you're thinking... they look an awful lot like shot glasses... but you'd be wrong!" :D:p

agzg 12-08-2009 03:14 PM

When I was in undergrad there were shot glasses in the greek store with our armorial bearings on them.

But as long as they're on the glass and not on you, you're not drinking in your letters. :D

And yes, I have shot glasses with our arms on them.

Because they know some people would rather say they are buying a toothpick holder with their letters than a shot glass.

agzg 12-08-2009 03:29 PM

This may just be me but all the shot glasses in my house are the plain ones you get at target for like .50 a piece.

I never saw the draw for shot glasses with "I lost my face in VA Beach!" or "XYZ Fraternity" on them.

We got some as a joke while in Amish Country -- they say "I <3 Intercourse."

But I do like using the ones with our arms on them, and I'm the only one who uses those for the most part.

DrPhil 12-08-2009 03:41 PM

People, particularly older people, don't always use shot glasses. Sometimes they are bought because of what's on them, like when people are traveling and so forth.

LOL Intercourse, PA.

Chaos, I see you, and raise you a "Why would a grown-up collect shot glasses?"

To go with their souvenir spoons?

And in my defense, the only non-plain shot glasses are I have are the ones referenced in this thread. :o

LOL, point taken.

I actually have a couple of souvenir spoons. Apparently they were my grandmother's and my dad thought I would want them.

LOL Why not?

(((Drinking is for "grown ups" anyway, as far as I'm concerned. When I said "older people" I was talking about people well out of college who really like to collect such items but they will use them infrequently. A relative of mine owned an "antique shot dispenser" (I thought it was a wine dispenser at first) retrieved from some Southern bar 40 years ago. Was it ever used? No, and it was dusty as heck. But, it was cool for what it was. :p )))

You collect one everywhere you travel. :)

People think you're either a big drinker or prefer shot glass memorabilia over cheesy key chains and airbrushed tshirts. :p

All I can think of when I think of Shot Glass collections is the sticky, gooey mess that's on a shelf in some undergrad's dorm room. You don't want to use them at that point, either, because you don't know how many liquids have gone into it since the last time it was washed.

LOL I was never privvy to shot glass collections in dorm rooms.

So, I'm strictly speaking from the collections of people 10-30 years out of college.

This one seems to get "found" every few months. LOL! Girl, don't even give them the courtesy of advertising it on here.

ETA: Personal preference, but I HATE blue against black like that. :(

My mom had a Cheerios Spoon that said "TIMMY DID IT!" that she used to scoop cookie dough onto the cookie sheet when making Chocolate Chip or M&M cookies.

Throwing it against pavement should do the trick. ;)

33girl 12-08-2009 07:41 PM

They've been calling those "toothpick holders" since back when I was in college. And yes they made some with our crest, but TECHNICALLY none of the items I bought back then are a real crest, as they don't have the right number of sections in the bar above and on the shield, and the Phoenix looks like an eagle with his butt on fire.

Real crest

"Commercial" toothpick holder crest

well, you'd be in distress too, if there was fire coming out of your butt.

BabyPiNK_FL 12-09-2009 01:18 PM

The one with my crest on it has never been correct either. Our crest is not symmetrical. The one on the shot glasses are though. At least get it right...

Yep tooth pick holders....my campus is dry and any alcohol para found in the dorms is grounds for being kicked out of the dorms and put on academic probabation. (although this is not the best inforced rule and all room checks are announced but thats beside the point.) Our on campus bookstore sells "tooth pick Holders" and other definately predominately alcohol drinking glasses with the school's logo on them. I always found this extremely ironic.
