New2FSU?

kandy36 08-22-2004 11:57 PM

im so happy for ure daughter!!! tell her good luck in everything she does and not to give up..this is gonna be the time of her life and honestly when reading this you reminded me of my mom. reasons are bc i went through informal(cob's) and i couldnt get a bid bc i was 3 tenths short on gpa and i was devestated. i cried to my mom and went home on bid day bc i couldnt take it and then they changed the rules on the gpa's making me elgible and my mom was so ecstatic. i think this is so freakin cool. have fun and congrats on being the proud mom of a tri-delt:)

hannahgirl 08-23-2004 12:18 AM

Thanks FSU Zeta! Trust me....I'll still be around.....I've become almost as addicted to everyone elses rush threads as I have to my own!

Speechpath 08-23-2004 09:21 AM

Congrats to your daughter! sounds like she had a great rush and found a perfect home!

OleMissGlitter 08-23-2004 09:27 AM

Awesome news on Tri Delta!

SSmith15 08-23-2004 09:58 AM

Glad to have a new sister! Congrats and tell her I said welcome to the Tri Delta Family

angelove 08-23-2004 10:03 AM

Congratulations from a vanilla creme;) ! The Tri-Delts at FSU are awesome and they are lucky to have your daughter!

Thanks for a wonderful thread!

PhiPsiRuss 08-23-2004 12:23 PM

Tri-Delt at FSU is at the very top, and many would argue that they are the best. You should be very proud.

Xylochick216 08-23-2004 01:04 PM

Congrats to your daughter! Tri-Delta is a very strong organization, and I'm sure she will have a great time :) And now you can relax!

SeminoleMom14 08-23-2004 02:13 PM

Thanks Again!!!!

Thank you all again for your kind words and congrats!!! I'm really proud and happy for her and it's been so nice to have people to share the experience with.

SeminoleDaughter had a great (late) night with her new Sisters and is soooo happy with the way everything worked out. She has her first meeting at the house tonight and is really looking forward to spending time with everyone....without the pressure.

I made my first (of many I'm sure) trip to our local Greek gift store and loaded up a giant care package for her - it was all just so darn cute! Alas, no "Proud to be a Tri-Delt Mom" mugs...but I'm still looking!

ZTAngel 08-23-2004 02:19 PM

Where did the FSU TriDeltas go for their Bid Day celebration?

TriDeltaGal 08-23-2004 03:28 PM

Wishing your daughter lots of Delta love from a Theta Pi chapter alum! Congrats to her and you!

ADPiAkron 08-23-2004 04:36 PM

I wish my mom was like you-- she has an Alpha Delta Pi daughter and an Alpha Chi Omega daughter and a Phi Kappa Tau husband-- and sadly no mugs-- actually she doesn't have anything greek! She did do her best attending mother/daughter events with me and mom's weekend with my sister...and she started dating my dad when he was chapter president! So she has done her duty-- but maybe this Christmas I can get her a mug! Gotta love mom's who support the greeks!

AGDee 08-23-2004 10:42 PM

I want to know if you told her that you posted her recruitment thread here yet!

Her daughter is GC user "New2FSU". I'm just wondering why she hasn't posted yet.

Actually....I haven't :o I kept thinking she would log on to GC and I was waiting for her to ask me if I was SeminoleMom14, but I think she's been so busy that she hasn't been online at all. I didn't want her to get stressed out about it during rush and I'm sure she'll be slightly mortified but I think once she gets over the embarassment she'll be secretly thrilled to see the response her experience got. I don't think she's ever actually posted anything on a thread anywhere and would never imagine that anyone would be interested.

You know how moms are....we're so embarassing sometimes!

Your daughter registered as New2FSU, and you did mention that she was a lurker.

But you accidentally posted as New2FSU once and some of us actually caught it because we knew that everything was coming from SeminoleMom's POV.

Yep, my daughter is 10 1/2 and she's starting to give me rules now... "Don't call me Cicci in front of my friends" (Cicci is the nickname her brother gave her and it has stuck). I tell her that pretty soon she won't want to be seen in public with me, but she insists that not only will she always want me around, she never wants to move out. Luckily, I know that will change! I can't wait until I can post her Recruitment Thread!

Dee

SeminoleMom14 08-23-2004 11:07 PM

Yeah...I usually post from my laptop or my office but I did use her computer one day and didn't realize it was signed in as her since she was the last one to use it. I guess I could have just used her original user name....but then she really would have killed me! Sorry if it caused some confusion to anyone. :( I didn't realize it mattered.

Trust me...it will be here before you know it! Enjoy 10 1/2...it's much better than 12 1/2 ;)

I made the mistake of calling her by her nickname (which would push her over the edge if I listed it here) in front of kids at school in the 4th grade....and some of her friends STILL call her by that name(and it's WAY more embarassing than Cicci - that's a cute name if you ask me)

Just one of the many many times I've embarassed her.

I wonder if GC will still be around in 2011 so we can read about your daughter.

That thought didn't even occur to me! It better be! I'm pretty open about the brainwashing I did to her when she was an infant. Before the age of 1, all of her lullabies were AGD songs so that when she is at preference and hears these songs, she will feel this unbelievably warm and fuzzy feeling inside, and will have no idea why. Subliminals :D

We also have a buff and green family room with red accents, and squirrels everywhere. She even found one of my squirrels at her dad's house (that I missed when packing) and brought it to me. She asked me what Alpha Gamma Delta means and I told her she can't know until Initiation. Since we have 9 open chapters (and 3 closed ones which could be recolonized by then) in Michigan, there's a good chance there will be a chapter no matter where she goes! (I can't afford out of state tuition either!).

I can only imagine how special it would be to sit at my daughter's own Initiation. Then again... I want her to be happy and if she'd be happier elsewhere, I'd be glad for her too!

Mmmmkay.

So where did your daughter and her new Tri Delta sisters go for bid day? Or did someone already ask that?

I know they went somewhere after the bid day party at the house but I didn't get much detail...just that there were alot of people there and they were out late (what I would consider late anyway - you might not)

Yeah I feel sorry for my future family because I love red and buff and green for home decor... I'm really trying to not od on it all. plus I have tons of squirrels... some are still in boxes that the future hubby doesn't even know about and won't until we move to our new place...

Since it looks like we will be staying in KY, I feel like my daughters (if I have any) will be going to a school with AGD. Since there are 5 chapters here and hopefully there will be more coming soon! I will have to use the subliminal thing.

My daughter just moved across country to start college. Thanks to a full tuition scholarship, it is cheaper for her to go out of state than stay in CA. Her campus has a KD chapter, but as of last week, she says she has no plans to rush--"I can't imagine living with all those women having PMS at the same time." Of course, she forgets she is living in a female dorm. I would love to see her become a KD so I could attend her initiation, but alas, so far she has told me that is only a pipe dream of mine.

How is your daughter enjoying sorority life? Did you find out what she did for bidday? I'm always looking for ideas to give chapters

ADqtPiMel 08-25-2004 09:00 AM

What does her Bid Day t-shirt look like? I'm always looking for new t-shirt ideas!

She is loving it! They had their first meeting Monday night and are having a pledge ceremony (I think that's what she said) tonight. Thank goodness again for GC or she wouldn't have known to have a white dress with her! I got so spoiled by being able to be there to see bid day...I wish I could see everything. I really have turned into a little bit of a "sorority stalker" ;)

They're also going on a retreat already this weekend -so she's really psyched to get to know all her new pledge sisters better.

I never did get a very good description of their bid day activities. I don't think they did anything unusual - just the normal pictures, food, gifts....and lots of hugging and screaming.

Their shirts were cute...white shirts with a pink ralph lauren polo player on the front surrounded by a circle of words that said Delta Delta Delta - Bid Day 2004 and on the back in pink it said something like "Class....it's not just something you go to everyday" and then FSU Bid Day and the date. It looks like from the pics I saw that to go along with the Polo shirts that "Preppy" was the theme - more than a usual amount of "preppy" outfits. Someone posted this link on another thread....it has Bid Day pics from TriDelt and some of the houses at FSU and UF.

One more time for good measure....THANK YOU ALL AGAIN FOR ALL YOUR MESSAGES!

Let her come around ... once there she may come around to
the idea.

Also on another note:

It is very true to go out of state to college and it be less than california tuition.

I went univ of arkansas ...dorm, tuition and fee's were cheaper than one yr at either CSU or a UC school

aephi alum 08-28-2004 06:42 PM

Congrats to your daughter! :)
