nothing neo-soul about it. i'm normally not that much of a r/b person (i'm more eccentric), but i fell in love with this album. it's r/b, but his voice...man, it's tight. and the songs are deep. it really is about his life!! i'd compare him to an anthony hamilton.

btw, i picked up the new anthony hamilton today, but haven't had a chance to check it out!!!

Donnie Hathaway (my favorite artist of allll time) has a new live cd out. I just found about it and ordered it off Amazon!!

I recently ordered "A Donny Hathaway Collection" from Amazon. The sound quality isn't that great but I love all the songs. I wonder if the quality of the live album is better than the one I have.

I saw this brotha perform live and he's not a "studio artist", this man can SANG! I believe he is from Ohio and his album title is after the ID number he had in prison.

Didn't he release an album before that didn't do well. I don't see why not though...the brotha can sang!!!!

AKA2D '91 10-13-2004 04:08 PM

He can sing. I guess since he is on "J" records (Clive Davis), he will do better as it relates to marketing and promotion.

lostnfound117 10-13-2004 04:08 PM

You guys should check out Van Hunt. I also love this cd!!

Thanks to all of you guys who recommended Lalah Hathaway. It's tight!!

ladylike 10-13-2004 04:20 PM

Would Van Hunt be a mixture of Lenny Kravitz and Maxwell?

Jamie wasn't that well known then. He was trying to make it as a singer and he didn't have the right people promoting him. So, he moved on to acting...Its about time they gave him his props; he's a great singer.

Pretty much!! You hit it on the nail. You gotta check him out. I kind of think he's cute....in that eccentric kind of way. Check out his website: http://www.vanhunt.com

abaici 10-14-2004 03:13 AM

Has anyone purchased Lizz Wright's CD? I borrowed from a co-worker a month ago. It's really nice. ALso, Spike Lee directed her video.

As for Jamie, I was so exited to hear about his record deal. He deserves it.

Van Hunt is cool. I LOVE the new song. However, after visiting his website and reading his bio, I've added him to my weirdo pile WHCAS.

Do you mean Salt? If so, I have it and I like it. It's not on constant rotation, but it's a smooth CD. Number 6 is special to me. :)

Van Hunt is a great artist. I heard him live at his album release party. He is very talented. He did some cuts from his album plus some ad lib and it was great.

Lyfe is a local artist here and he is also very talented. He's always on the radio here and they play songs from the album that haven't been released yet. So, definitely check it out.

I love this album. But I saw on his message board that it's only sold like 40K albums. I hope folks go out and buy it, and not just burn it because it's a good album.

The Best of Both Worlds Tour is DA BOMB!

Words can NOT express how wonderful it was to see Jay-Z in concert!! I am COMPLETELY satisfied with the performance. Man, if I didn't like Beyonce, she would have to WATCH OUT because I would be on a manhunt for Jigga RIGHT NOW! :D I could not stop smiling because the concert was just that great!! If it comes to your city, DO NOT miss this concert!

*off to order the Jay-Z discs needed to complete my collection...*

Have you all heard of D'angelo's "sound alike"? His name is Terrell (sp?) I heard his CD is good.

If you 've heard his stuff on the radio, you would swear that D'angelo had returned from his "hiatus".

Oh my! I just checked out the music clips on the website. I can't wait to head to Circuit City right after work to grab this one! I hear a mixture of Terrence Trent D'Arby,Al Green and a little bit of Ron Isley.

I am picking Mos and Kweli up when I leave for class.

Are you talking about the remaster of "Streets is Watching" or is there another movie? If it's "Streets is Watching," thatmovie is more bootleg than "State Property." To be honest, it's like one long music video. The movie corresponds with what he is rapping about in a particular song. It offers some laughs and a good soundtrack. I will be getting ti tomorrow, though. It will be re-released and is on sale for $9.99 at Circuit City.

I have a bootleg version of Streets Is Watching but I will be picking up the new copy, especially since I have a $5.00 coupon which means I will only end up paying like $5.00. Ideal is referring to Fade to Black. It's follows Jay when he was recording The Black Album and it also has footage from his "retirement" concert last year at Madison Square Garden. It comes out on Nov. 5th.

BTW, I heard like 5 tracks off of Fantasia's album. Homegirl is really puttin' it down!! I can't wait for the album.

RedefinedDiva 10-18-2004 10:21 PM

Oh, OK! I would like to see that myself. Jigga PUT IT DOWN in the Best of Both Worlds concert!!! I am his new biggest fan!!

I don't own any Jay-Z albums, but I'ma go see that movie. I just told a nice little fib, lol. I do have The Black Album, LOL. Anyway, I'm going to see Fade to Black. The previews looked really good, and I'm usually not into movies like that. I smiled all the way thru the preview. Good stuff.
