I said GSU first because that is where I first began the long journey of my college years back in 98'.
I am now seeking my degree from TSU(Texas Southern Univ.)
Grambling State is a great university and it instilled in me the beloved motto: "Where everybody is Somebody" That was the best year of my life.(Maybe because I was away from home) TSU is a great university also.

You are a true Gramblinite when:

You used to walk to the village at about 8:00 to get something to grub on....
You used to sneak to the side of the opposite sex after visitation was over......
You used to sneak the opposite sex in your room or you looked out for your roommate if he/she had after hour "company"....
You used to miss class on Fridays just to sit in front of the caf or the union to chill with the crowd......
You used to sneak your friends in the caf if they didn't have a valid ID....
You used to slip on the Alpha sidewalk(right in front of the union) when it rained...
You used to walk to the Renaissance and walk back....
You used bomb a ride to Ruston to go grocery shopping and to Monroe or Shrevepot to the mall(Pecan Land in particular)

My all time favorite
You used to go to Terry Lilly's arobic classes

If you can relate holla at me

OK, GSU flash back... I slipped 5 times on the Alpha sidewalk, I was a JV cheerleader (under Terry Lilly), the school spent in the neighborhood of 1 million dollars to fix the football stadium and it sank anyway, MC Hammer, Mikki Howard & friends were the entertainment for homecomming, Zahara Sims [AKA] was Miss Grambling that year, Tasty's was NASTY, Jones Hall was (still is?) a roach motel, so was Truth, I snuck my male friend in once but he snuck me in his dorm, Douglass, many times. :p I think I can relate, as a matter of fact, I'm not sure I've gotten over it :) GSU ROCKS THE HOUSE!

YOU KNOW YOU ARE OLD SCHOOL HU IF YOU REMEMBER (some have been altered to avoid duplication):

4) fighting in meridian hill or sutton
Especially Meridian!

6) that the hilltop never came out on time and when it did it was full of errors
Isn't it still like that?

8) playing spades, bid whist and pool in the game room
Always!

9) that the college of arts & sciences useta be called liberal arts; that there used to be a school of human ecology and that there WERE 18 schools and colleges
Whatever happened to some of them?

15) when the street in front of the a building was not one-way

16) there used to be a hot dog truck at the front gate

18) when the library was open for 24 hours during finals...and you went and studied little, if at all OR you fell asleep

20) when the homecoming fashion show was MUST SEE TV
True!!!

21) all the friends you had in school-and they're STILL your DOGS (or the ones you lost touch with and have become reacquainted with with the advent of e-mail)
I knew a lot of people, but I only keep in touch with two via either phone calls or e-mail :D

24) The Howard Inn
Before they closed it down! Why!?!

28) the undergrad library before it had cubicles.

29) bootleg Howard gear.
Everybody wore it!

30) house parties where "DJ Bernard" played a half hour Shabba Ranks medley.

32) when freshmen and sophomores could live off campus.
I was one of them!

33) when 40oz.'s were not considered ghetto.
I remember that!

35) the group "SHAI" thought they were the sh*t.
I still like their first album, and plan to play song #5 at my wedding! :p :D

37) when the cops beat up Andrew Young's (former mayor of Atlanta) son.
I think I remember hearing about that.

38) you could attend class until midterms without being validated.
I did that too, and I remember one of my professors saying that the people who weren't validated by October needed to get it together.

40) there was no coffee bar in the A building.

42) stealing salt and pepper shakers from MacDonlads.

43) when student ID #s were six digits.
I still remember mine!!! :D

46) The School of Business had the finest....yet stuck up.....women out of any school....... not much has changed :

47) Most folks hung around the game room......in Blackburn....playing spades and Street Fighters I, II, III, and IV
Always!

50) Various things overflowing, flooding, or crawling around the various floors of Meridian
Something was always going wrong in that dang dorm!

54) The shuttle buses blowing up....
I love the shutle bus!

55) The freedom shuttle

58) the BLACK squirrels (TELL me y'all didn't think that was the STRANGEST thing went y'all came to school)
I'm glad I'm not the only one who remembers them nasty little critters!

59) $5 Dominos pizza man...
Me and my friends were always ordering from them!

63) parties at the Roxy on Friday or Saturday nights.

68) No one really came to school until after Labor Day @ VA Beach
No wonder the campus was kinda empty during the first week or two.

71) Black Bart Simpson shirts
I remember people wearing them when I was in high school.

77) Waiting in line 2 days to register (liberal arts students)
How can I forget!!!

79) The little hotdog stand in front of the School of B
I think it's still there.

80) Club Undergrad AKA the library during finals

83) If you remember wearing Cross Colours.
Did that in high school too.

87). If you remember Quigleys, getting dressed up to go to The Ritz on Sundays, catching the Shuttle Bus to the Mirage on a Friday when admission was free, and most importantly getting your freak on at the Basement.
I've never been to the Mirage or the Basement, but I do remember Quigleys (the back-to-school jams!) and the Ritz

88). If you remember when Wilson's was Roy Rogers
I used to eat there sometimes.

90). If you remember going to the Ice Cream Social and King's Dominion with the Campus Pals.
Remembering Campus Pals, period! I knew one and he was a cutie! :D

98 If you remember when Groove Phi Groove was actually dope (If there ever was such a time)

99 If you remember when the administration and Bd. Of Trustees were all republicans
I was under the impression that they still were.

105) Guys would make "dates" with girls to see the Cosby Show and Different World on Thursday nights....and you cried on the episode when Whitley was getting married and Dwayne Wayne broke up the wedding
I still love that episode.

Giiirrrrllll, I can relate to these old school HU things (I attended for one semester in '94), but I must add some things to your list:

1. Meridian Hill being called, "The Ebony Sex Palace"
2. The girls side on some floors of Meridian not having cable
3. Meeting different people who had rooms in the middle hall and the boys' side that DID have cable
4. Going to their rooms just to watch their cable
5. The parties the Ques had at their frat house (I went to one; it was the BOMB! :D )
6. Meridian Hill was the dorm all of the freshman were sent to when all of the on-campus housing was filled up
7. Meridian Hill Hall being the only dorm with 24 hour visitation (I think it still is....)

Yes, I still got mad love for "The Original Mecca" Howard U!!!!!!!!!!!

LogistiX1962 05-19-2002 07:34 AM

Most definitely, I will be reppin' for the BIG BLUE "TIGERS" lol. I figure if alumni will not attend the game, all the way in Vegas who will. But, I am not quite sure of the date.

T S U
"BIG BLUE COUNTRY" LOVE ACROSS THE BOARD!!!!!!!

ambitious1 05-22-2002 04:41 PM

The tenitive date for the game is September 21st, however the last I heard is that negotiations are still going on.

AKA2D '91 05-22-2002 05:38 PM

I thought all that (negotiations) were wrapped up? The schedule I have WAS an unofficial GSU schedule.

They need to make up their minds, because I've been searching for airlines and so far, Frontier is the way to go.

ambitious1 05-23-2002 10:22 AM

Girl I feel you on that one! I belong to Grambling"s Detroit Alumni chapter and we've been trying to get packages together, some chapters are already offering hotel and airfair packages.

She you can imagine how frustrated I was when I called down there and someone told me that they were still "negotiating".

From what I've been told promoter or whoever isn't willing to give the two teams the money that they are asking for.

But someone needs to get on the good foot and let us know Yay or Nay.

AKA2D '91 05-23-2002 01:15 PM

I know that's right. I haven't been to our alumni meeting in 2 months...:o still, it's the END of May. Those official schedules are usually out by now. Those Vegas peeps don't know that if we are going to PLAY, they have to PAY?

AKA2D '91 05-23-2002 04:22 PM

outdoor or indoor?

My ls sent me this info today. Ummmm, this isn't the REAL classic..(BC) LMAO!

For those SCSU Bulldogs....

I remember when....

* You could drive up to the pit and Dukes gym.

* Cars would throw the bass on the weekend and it was like a block party

* The club Soul to Soul was open across the street

* Claflin wanted to cross the fence

* Eddie Mo was a everyday figure on the yard

* Our football team went to the Heritage Ball

* Dr. Meyers would kick you out of class for wearing shorts

* Registration was out the door of SHM and around the second level

* House parties took place every weekend with somebody's punch as the only refreshment

* The Death March

* I am remembering to much I am wanted to go back on the yard........

Note: When I was on the yard of South Carolina State University the Grooves pledged the hardest out of all the greek and non-greeks..... in my opinion.
