Central High School
Capitol Heights, MD Home of the Falcons Class of 1991 We were the tiniest school in the county-- only 120 grads that year. One block down and one block over from the Capitol Heights metro station... That used to be the end of the line! [PG County-- I see a lot of y'all out there! Suitland, Bladensburg, High Point, Oxon Hill-- I know all of those schools from Poms. We Falcons (well, the guys) had a great run in basketball in 1990 or 1991... went to the state playoffs, I think.] |

2) -laugh- I don't know. Prince George's County, MD, butts right up against the eastern side of DC, kind of like a backwards squashed Pac-man with two chicken legs sticking out. Montgomery County, MD, is to the north and kind of covers the north and north-eastern part of DC. I can't for the life of me remember what VA Counties get the west and south-- Fairfax, maybe? But PG County has a ton of suburbs in it. It's different from Chicagoland where you have some smaller counties with 9-50 townships-- the whole county is one school system. Andrews Air Force Base is also out there, so with DC and government and military people and a generally middle to upper-middle class population, I think lots of people move elsewhere for college or jobs than they did for middle or high school. I think there also may be a Prince George county in Virginia. Probably also in some other states. Dunno. But the TV news out there in DC/MD/VA calls it PG County all the time. Newspapers vary. |
Yep. Prince George's County in MD and Prince George County in VA. But no comparison in population--800,000+ versus 30,000.

But I'm representing the: green and the gold !! Parkdale High Riverdale, Maryland Class of 1981 And I was a Pom too! One of the first black girls to integrate the squad, which placed first that spring at Largo. Back then, Central was no competition!! Please! ;) Someone mentioned PG County. What's significant about PG County?? Bordering Washington to the east, predominantly Black, Prince Georges County is known for the highest concentration of upper-income African Americans in the country. But I'm not one of them.:( Also the title of a book of fiction by Connie Briscoe. ;) |
