Lol, I'd be right there with you:). Honestly though I don't think anything that cost that much would look good on me. I went and tried on rings (just for fun. Has anyone else done that?) one time and 1/2 carat to a carat would look just fine on my hand because I have small hands and skinny fingers.

I think that three month's salary is probably too much for someone to spend on a ring.
For example, say the man makes 50K (nice, round number), then wouldn't three month's salary be roughly 12K? A 12K ring is a sizable rock - with nice color and clarity too. I think that's too much to spend on a ring if he only makes 4K a month. Come on.

A friend spent 10K on his fiance's ring but he makes almost 200K a year (one month's salary). Another friend spent almost 30K on his fiance's ring - but again, he makes almost 200K a year (1.5 month's salary). But even these extravagant purchases are not 3 month's salary.

I think that I'd be scared to walk around with a 10K ring on everyday. Shucks, what if I lost it.... Yikes.

^^I feel the same way; if I were going to get a $10,000+ rock, I would be looking at better color, clarity, and cut, rather than bigger size (I don't think that I would want more than 1.5 carats). Also, I would not want my would be husband to spend more than, maybe, $15,000, regardless of what his salary is.

Ummm.... I think you need to point me in the direction of these men that are making 100K-200K per year!! LOL!

SummerChild 04-08-2008 11:39 AM

Soror, look within our field. They will be all around you. Just attend your next bar association networking event. They will be all around you. Watch out for the gov't ones. They don't have any money. LOL.
Yes, I said it!

Ring with a 2.95-carat Legacy-cut aquamarine and round brilliant diamonds in platinum

$11,000

SummerChild 10-30-2008 08:07 PM

I love aquamarine and have a good deal of this stone in necklaces and earrings - but I don't think I'd want it as part of my engagement ring b/c I'd want it to be more timeless. It's pretty, though. I wouldn't have thought it was an engagement ring...and I'm surprised that it's 11K given that the bulk of it is aquamarine and each diamond doesn't look to be more than about .1 or .2 carats. Maybe the ring base is platinum or titanium.... Even then. Heck, maybe you're just paying the Tiffany tax.

Diamond Engagement Anniversary Three Stone Ring 2 Carat (ctw) Emerald Cut in 18K White Gold (SI) (Certified)
One high quality (SI) emerald cut diamond gleams in this magnificent piece, while two smaller emerald cut diamonds help further propel this dazzling ring into glittering heaven. Six radiant princess cut diamonds are littered along the band for a total diamond weight of 2.0 carats (ctw) all laid into 18 karat pure white gold.

And it's only $3,995! (myjewelrybox.com)

I would SWOON if I received this ring!! It is, by far, my favorite.

Little32 11-21-2008 03:16 PM

I have been thinking lately that I would want something smaller, if the day ever came, because I am pretty active and I would want to feel comfortable wearing my engagement ring all the time.

This is the ring for me. It's beautiful and classy. I love how the wedding band wraps around the engagement ring...

I really don't have too much of a preference as long as it's something that he put a lot of thought into. The only thing that I do want is for it to be either white gold or platinum. I HATE yellow gold. I've always loved the rings that had an antique look to them, but I really can care less.

Amen to that! My boyfriend and I just had this discussion. I want whatever he get's me white/ yellow gold, platinum, a rubber band...well not a rubberband b/c my dad will knock him upside his head hehehe.

I usually don't like those rings with "trim stones" (I don't know what you call them - the little ones around the large one), but that ring is BEAUTIFUL.

I'm not sure what that type of stone is call. I happened to see an ad for BN with that ring in it so, I went to the site. THat particular ring, they call it Cirque but I don't know if that's a general term for stones with surrounding stones. Ill look around and see if I find anything.
