yeah our school has about 10,000 students but our greek system is really small. but for having such a small system, we have a lot of different fraternities (nine) and sororities (eight)

Glitter650 05-24-2004 03:04 PM

GEEZ Phi Sig isn't even an option and I want to know who's going to have a new chapter !!! This is crazy.... they have to know who it is by now why won't they just let everyone know ?

Xylochick216 05-24-2004 06:01 PM

I seriously have no idea what is taking so long. I really hope they tell us why it's taking forever when they FINALLY tell us who it is!

IheartAphi 05-24-2004 09:35 PM

I got an email from our South East International rep- They invited Tri Delt-

33girl 05-24-2004 09:37 PM

sugar and spice 05-25-2004 02:14 AM

Excuse me while I bust out my inner sorority girl:

OMG! YAY!!!!

I'm so excited for this.

ETA: I suppose it's possible Tri Delta would turn down the invitation, explaining why the official announcement is taking so long -- we already are recolonizing at three schools next year (not counting Elon) and are up for at least one more presentation that I know of -- but I really hope we take this opportunity!

Buttonz 05-25-2004 02:58 AM

Congrats to ΔΔΔ!

We haven't heard anything official yet from Panhellenic or anything, but I'm hoping we'll be able to confirm it soon :)

Waiting to Hear The Official Version!:(

If true that, then Congratulations to Tri Delta!

??? Would it be on Elons web site yet?

IheartAphi 05-25-2004 04:56 PM

Thats crusty they haven't told you guys yet. I was really surprised to be the first one that posted it.

I can't believe they are trying to colonize 3 chapters next year! Don't most chapters restrict it to one chapter a year? I know AOPi declined an invite at another school because of the situation. However, if the regions are spread out, it might not matter and overload the resources.

Is that supposed to be crazy or is it a new synonym? LOL

Right now DDD is scheduled for a colonization of an existing group and two ground up colonizations (one is a recolonization). The schools they're going to are not huge. So it might not be as taxing as it appears, esp for a group like DDD which has ample resources. Now if they were ground up colonizing 3 Big 10 schools, I would say they (or any sorority) were nuts. :D

Tom Earp 05-25-2004 05:24 PM

Please do not say that Greek Organizations have ample resources. The cost of running Greek Organizatiosn is horrendous.

Going onto to any large Conference type schools can be a money pit as it were. When one looks at certain Schools that have existing Greek Organizations, it can and will cost at Least several millions of dollars.:o

While I can only speak for LXA and TKE, we both are looking not only at New Schools to gain attention to, we each are trying to also recolonize Chapters that were closed.

Again, it has been said on one of the threads, trying to go on say UG for anyone will be a bed of nails to get recognized and have the Money to do so to try to last for the long hall oc competiting against the existing Groups.

33girl 05-25-2004 05:39 PM

I meant they have ample resources as opposed to some of the smaller NPC groups. None of us ever have enough money of course. :)

Yup. Tri Delta is colonizing a local at Lake Forest, recolonizing at Butler, and doing a ground-up at Eastern Illinois. I think Lake Forest and Eastern Illinois will be relatively small chapters at relatively small Greek systems, whereas Butler and Elon would be larger. Also, Butler might be a spring colonization, now that I think of it, so there wouldn't be as much conflict there if that's the case.

Most of the times when a sorority launches a new chapter at a BIG school -- I am thinking of the recent colonizations at Florida, UCF, or similar -- they will stick to one or maybe two a year, but at smaller schools I think things are different.

That's news to me and I am on the AOII Extension Committee. You must PM me with your details. ;)

Congrats DDD!

Also congrats to Theta Phi Alpha. They will have 7, yes 7, colonies next school year! Current Colonies - University of Texas Pan American, Saint Leo University and Shippensburg University. Campuses to be colonized in the fall - University of the Incarnate Word, Tusculum College, and Davis and Elkins College. Campus to be colonized in the spring 2005 – Wright State University.

Glitter650 05-26-2004 01:30 AM

I think Phi Sig is doing two or three smaller chapters next year.. as long as they are smaller campuses I don't see it a problem.

Butler has spring recruitment, but from what I hear they will have COB during the fall and spring semesters. Butler usually has a fairly average sized recruitment (estimated 500 girls), and last year quota was around 45.

Buttonz 05-26-2004 04:10 AM

Congrats to Theta Phi Alpha. 7 colonies...wow! We have one for next year at FSU, and a fairly new chapter.

That's wonderful news for Theta Phi Alpha!

As far as I know, there aren't any colonizations in the works for us. That doesn't mean they aren't considering any, just that the official word hasn't trickled down to the general members; they may be announcing one at convention this year. We tend to be kind of picky and slow with our new chapters and only have one a year or so. That's what we found works best for us.

exlurker 05-26-2004 04:59 PM

And Tri Delta now has the Elon announcement on their website -- it says:

"TRI DELTA TO ESTABLISH CHAPTER AT ELON UNIVERSITY

ARLINGTON, Texas -- May 25, 2004 -- Delta Delta Delta will host its 137h active chapter Epsilon Delta at Elon University. Elon is a private liberal arts university in Elon, North Carolina.

More than 36 percent of Elon students choose to join one of more than 20 Greek-letter organizations. Last year, Elon University Greek students raised more than $14,000 and donated more than 16,000 service hours to charitable organizations.

Tri Delta’s Director of Alumnae/Volunteer Enrichment Stacy Cross, Illinois State, says, 'Because of the Greek community’s commitment to excellence, Tri Delta is pleased to colonize a chapter at Elon University. Our values closely match those of the university and the existing Greek organizations.'

The chapter will begin its colonization process during the fall of 2004. Epsilon Delta Chapter of Tri Delta joins National Panhellenic Conference organizations Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Omicron Pi, Alpha Xi Delta, Phi Mu, Sigma Kappa, Sigma Sigma Sigma, and Zeta Tau Alpha and National Pan-Hellenic Council organizations Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sigma Gamma Rho and Zeta Phi Beta.

Delta Delta Delta, one of the founders of the National Panhellenic Conference, is a leader among women's fraternities. Tri Delta is one of the largest women's fraternities, with a membership totaling more than 210,000 women. With 136 collegiate chapters and more than 350 alumnae chapters across the United States and Canada, Tri Delta continues to be internationally recognized for high standards and outstanding accomplishments. The Executive Office of Tri Delta is located in Arlington, Texas."

We are excited that Tri-Delta will be colonizing at Elon! We had three incredible groups present, and any of them would have been an asset to Elon.

Yay Tridelta! I was gone on a business trip for the past week and I have been dying to know who was chosen!
