From what I've heard, they keep it in the freezer!

BSUPhiSig'92 03-22-2004 03:29 PM

No itching powder, no Ben-gay, it just chaffed. And yes, usually someone thought it was funny to put it in the freezer (right next to the aerosol cheese) just before ritual!

Since everyone is spilling secrets, I suppose it doesn't hurt to let you in on ASA's initiation costume, either.

Because we're one of the smaller nationals, many of you aren't familiar with the whole ASA Queens of the Desert theme - if you've heard of us at all, you're probably thinking ladybugs or something like that.

With all the recent unpleasantness in the Middle East, some of the alumni have suggested that we get rid of the Rituals of Baghdad, but traditionalists won out

http://home.maine.rr.com/lila1/red01a.jpg

Note that the costume HAS to be in the traditional ASA crimson and white. A ladybug-charm naval piercing is optional.

33girl's chapter went more with the "I dream of Jeannie" look, which wasn't 100% kosher, but national never cracked down on it

As long as our belly buttons were clean, they were cool with it.

That looks like what one of my sisters wore a couple Halloweens ago, actually, only hers was all black. I think that was from the special memorial service. :)

What's this I hear about ritual sequined thongs? Sounds like some GLOs were real trend setters.

KSUViolet06 10-23-2004 01:43 PM

Our rainbow colored ritual ballerina tutus come from our national :D

IowaStatePhiPsi 10-23-2004 01:50 PM

You can always tell when Tri-Delts at Iowa State are initiating their pledges- you can hear the "ee! ee! click-click-click!" of the sacrificial dolphin miles away.

Jocelyn..how could you?! You might have well just told that we also prace around to "I feel pretty" from West Side Story! Thank god you didn't say anything about that part of our ritual where we get out canoes in a huge baby pool and wear nothing but striped purple and white bikinis and sailor hats! I mean no one does regulation sailor hats like our HQ!:p

Wow! I'm really intrigued here!!!

I bought that first outfit while in Disney World a couple years ago (which I found slightly amusing in the first place!). Would that mean that (*gasp*) Minnie Mouse is an ASA?!?!?!?!

Honey, PLEASE don't tell me that you did a chapter program or genealogy workshop while wearing that outfit....

:( My pledge class used the pink cat suits. Where does your chapter order the lion's blood for initiation?

:D

Minne is indeed one of our more famous alums (she was always trying to get us to make Mickey a Phoenixman, but it never happened)

Ahh, I miss being a collegian. I really liked wearing the purple and white bikini, although being in Alaska it did tend to get a little chilly. ;) And the sailor hats were lovely as well.

Yes......... Catsuits, Panda Panties, mardi gras masks, leather chaps..... You girls rock!

Optimist Prime 12-23-2004 02:18 AM

A white dress shirt. A white business shirt may be used if that is all you have. A necktie, color: Military Red, Windsor Knot, prefferably at the time of this writing, but whatever is in syle. You only get initiated once. You should dress to the height of fashion. Provided that you abide by white dress shirt, and red tie. Red's a hard color to pull off, so if you don't have a red tie, go to wal-mart, they're like $6.00
Or you can borrow one from a brother. Oh, and khais as pants for Pledges. The brothers can wear watever they want, and usually try to dress the best they can. Its strange, but I've seen guys more dressed up at Initation than at Formal. Well, maybe that isn't so strange. Goddamnit I miss my brothers.

PINK?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

We always ordered from EO. It just seems like a waste of Mother Nature otherwise.

If you're not gonna get it from the lions yourself, there really is no point. :(

That's how I feel. Our EO just has a "new & improved" way of getting the goods without hurting the lions - conservationism, you know.

prinzessgena 12-28-2004 05:43 PM

i LOVED WEARING THE CATSUITS!

HEY WHERE DID YOUR ADPI CHAPTERS GET YOUR CHICKENS FROM? (thats a big laugh in our chapter)

:)

pineapplecake 12-29-2004 02:08 AM

Well, at my chapter of Gamma Phi, we continue the tradition made by the founders of a luau theme.

We dance to "Tiny Bubbles" and of course we order our brown and mode grass skirts, and pink leis of course, from HQ.
PNMs have to supply their own pink bikini.

Then of course, we wrestle in pineapple jello, followed by a dunk in the pool of coconut milk, then a pillow fight, so the pnms look like chickens.

After that we sacrifice the alligator, then later on in the year we all have matching alligator bags, so we are totally the envy of every other sorority on campus!

TADA...

OMG...if anyone from HQ or my chapter sees this, I am so toast:p

bump b/c this thread is funny

PhoenixAzul 07-18-2005 11:26 PM

We TD's don't have any fancy catsuits or alligator pumps, sadly. For our rituals, its more the colors than the items themselves that are important...the style is up to the sister.

mmcat 07-19-2005 12:02 AM

and i bet you all look so lovely...

The mental picture I'm getting here is just a bunch of chicks sitting around in 5in alligator stilettos with matching bags, in spandex unitards with bunny ears on, doing a candelpass.

Just out of curiosity, are any of y'all permitted to take pictures while you're wearing your catsuits, tiaras, etc? That's a big NO!! with us.

And the catsuits look so cute, too!! :(

We're allowed to take pictures of us as a group before and after we do the actual ceremony when wearing "regular" clothes (following the dress code of what you're supposed to show up to the ceremony in). I don't wanna say much more than that - I might get slammed by my girls =)

Sister Havana 07-19-2005 09:05 AM

The bad thing about APO not being able to have a house is that we have to keep our eagle in the office in the IMU. It's gotten loose a few times...you know how hard it is to catch an eagle flying through the Union? At least the doors are revolving doors so it couldn't get outside.

SurfinDBeach 07-19-2005 04:26 PM

LOL...

Too funny...

Everything of ours is from International HQ... Period...

Chewbaca Suits, Darth Vader Masks, Eye Patches, Light Sabers can't be duplicated anywhere else other than International Headquarters! LOL
:D

Just be glad that it is illegal to hunt eagles in the United States. Can you just imagine how awful it would be if it got loose and someone accidentally shot it?

I'm afraid I let the cat out of the bag earlier in this thread...I think I told them about the light blue leotards and dark blue tutus with gold glitter and the gold toe rings! Sorry! You can just put the blame on me if HQ finds this...
