Of course, thats the American way. Use the system then slam the door on those that came in after you. |
Personally, if the foreigners are just here to work, and are doing jobs that other Americans wouldn't do, more power to them. I don't have a problem with them working.
I only say that because I see countless people every day on the street with signs that are probably citizens but not doing anything but beg me for my hard earned money. Not to sound mean or insensitive or anything, but isn't there something those people could be doing to help stimulate the economy? Even if it is just picking fruit or something. Additionally I have to agree w/ lifesaver here and the other folks who think cutiepatootie's post was offensive. Hello? You are saying how much you don't think illegals (or "wetbacks" as you like to call them) deserve an education in America, and your spelling is way off in many instances and you didn't even use the correct form of "your" in your last reply (p.s. it should have been "you're" as in "you are"). If that is the American schooling system at it's finest, the system has surely failed you. :( |

p.s. did I miss something, or could you tell me what an "assist" is... I always thought it was a verb.. (or could it also be used as a noun in basketball?). I never knew it was possible to "rob" an assist... one last thing.. did you ever see that low-budget flick "A Day Without a Mexican"? You should rent it at Blockbuster some time to see some of the things they do for the economy :p There are so many AMERICAN CITIZENS who sit on their butts all day and do nothing but pop out kids for more welfare money... at least these illegal immigrants are doing things to help stimulate an economy that isn't even their own. |

And I am completely   about the wetback term. That is beyond disgraceful. Seriously - did you think about that before you typed it? Mr. AXO works with the most hardworking man who is an illegal from Mexico. He has been in this country for 15 years working to support his dad who is a farmer in Mexico. The man is a great man - he is a very good friend, and he always takes care of his business. They tried to petition on his behalf to get a work Visa, but thanks to more red tape, it wasn't possible without him getting deported back. Its a very sad life to lead - he knows that he cannot go back and see his father, or his siblings. He knows that he needs the work here to support them, and quite frankly, it makes me mad to see him being treated like crap, when a friend of mine just took 2 years unemployment because she liked hanging out with nothing to do. |

1 misusage of "you're"/"your" 1 capitalization mistake 1 extra space 1 "vs" instead of "v." Ladies and gentleman, a fine American education at work. |

It amuses me when people don't think about what they are saying.
1] Illegal Immigrants are people who are here illegally, they should not be allowed to stay. They should have to fill out whatever forms& go through whatever bueracratic B.S. to stay here. I do think they should make it a little easier, but that's a different conversation. 2] I totally understand& agree with the reasons why they want to come to America& I'm not saying, keep all immigrants out, but think about it, most of our ancestors did follow the proper channels to migrate here. Think Ellis Island. Why should we cater to people who should not be here? Does the government grow marijuana for people to smoke it illegally? Do gun manufacturers post ads in prisons? No, b/c in no other part of society do we cater to people who have broken our laws. I definitely don't agree with putting water out in the desert to ensure their safe passage, that's so idiotic. But take these for what they are, my opinions. -Mark |
SO screw anything i say , but it i OK for the number of you who seem to let your opinions be known verbally and loudly on here on every topic from "hi thread count" to "what i wore to work today"....i guess your opinions only count and the rest of us we get blasted for voicing ours! You should stop and read some of your thread omissions and refrain from what you all say soemtimes.
BTW....I dont use the N word for whoever said i am near using it. Some of you WHO DON'T LIVe in SO cal you will never understand I just dont like my freedoms and my rights pushed aside or ignored because someone who entered this country ILLEGALLY gets them granted to them without a bat of the eye. |

The relevance of your opinion has nothing to do with what threads you participate in on GC. It's hard to take someone seriously when she is presenting an argument that includes racial slurs and grammatical mistakes that a seventh grader wouldn't make. Please give me one example of how your rights have been pushed aside or ignored because of someone who is in the U.S. without the required paperwork. |

And it appears that they're not. |
Slightly O/T, and I really don't know how you Alpha Phis do it, but I know if I saw *MY* letters attached to a post that screamed a racial slur, I'd be going through the monitor so I could rip her a new one.
That is all. |

Growing up in S. TX doesn't make me have the kind of attitude that you seem to have for pretty much the same group of folks. Different strokes for different folks I guess. It's one thing if people are crossing the border to do harm to people or to do things that could potentially do harm to people (like smuggle drugs for example) but it's quite another if they are just coming here to pick fruit or do things that no other American would want to do to support their family back home that they never even get to see. Would you like to go pick fruit for a living? My best guess is probably not. |

Also, yeah, youre right. I have to live in socal to understand the immigration issue.[/sarcasm] I freaking live 2 hours from the Mexico border. The town I live in is 70% hispanic. The town has 1.5 million people in it. So theres a lot of mexicans here. But apparently ya only get 'it' if youre in the Pacific Time Zone or something. |

If calling people wetbacks is appropriate in SO cal, then I am really glad that I will "never understand" - cause my momma raised me better ;) |
And I have plenty of friends from So Cal who would NEVER use that term.
Maybe you just don't understand - how ignorant you are... |

For all you bashers if you would check ...the word has been deleted......
another thing and that is because I am sick and tired of this bashing you dont know me and if you did i am the least racist person in the world! i dont use the N word because i have best friends who are black and i love and respect them and their families greatly ...... the term i used use was in poor taste......I also have friends who are hispanic and them too i love and respect. I guess i was following some of the poor choices some of you all use in other threads over the yrs. Bottom line this has gotten out of hand, I have changed the word ( and yes it was in poor taste....i may have mis understood the word) ,but the fact is get over it i changed it and i admit it was in poor taste but i am the not the person who you all have painted me out to be in your nasty comments flug at me in the last two pages of the thread and in PM's. This is my last entry to this thread and i would hope some mod would close it because it has certainly gotten out of hand from some of you more vocal members |

i am SO excited that this just happened - thank god for you, cutiepatootie, it couldn't happen to a better person. -RC --now someone can post the site for the 1,000,001st time, and this time I'd be totally OK with it |

Following the poor choices others have made over the years? I've been on GC since 2001, and it hasn't made me any more likely to use derogatory terms in conversation. Maybe that's just me though. Also - why should the thread be closed? Because people disagree with you? That's not out of hand. That's debate. If you offer an opinion, there are going to be people who disagree. That's life. ETA: http://www.blackpeopleloveus.com/ You asked for it, here it is. |
I want to deport KSigkid for being a Yankees fan in Boston.

But some of my best friends are blacks.

Where I live, this is a very touchy subject. Here is my opinion.
I drive through two hours of ranch land when I go home. Usually at night, if you look, it is easy to see people creeping through the mesquite trees. Every mile, you will also see a border patrol man and a huge spot light that can light up an area for miles. In the hot sun, you will see people walking along the railroad tracks. Friends have told me that is when they have given up. Their tired, need cool air and water and are asking to get picked up. The hot summer Texas sun, who wouldn't be tired. I've also visited many places in Mexico. Not just Cancun, but places who do not benefit from vacationer's money. I've seen the poverty, homes, and little to no means of ever working for a better life. Hell, visiting a border town like Nuevo Progreso, you will see adults and children with cut open milk jugs willing to catch any change you are willing to throw down. If it reaches the ground, you better believe they are dog piling for it. So, when they try and cross over for a better life, I respect them for doing what they have to. Sometimes, it is all you can do to provide. Most people will work and send all their money home. However, I would prefer they do it the right way and gather their papers first. This is possible and if my grandmother can become a US citizen at the age of 12, anyone can. And when they do, they should get all the same benefits I expect as a citizen. Sorry if I repeated what someone else said...I'm too tired to read through pages. I see how the topic changed into that one "w" word. I don't like that word. But, oh well, there are a lot of words I don't like and people still say. I know I never will. |

Living in a state that has massive illegal immigration where it is a serious problem, I have some pretty strong opinions on it.
The AZ border sucks. Hundreds (if not thousands) cross illegally into AZ every year. Then they are stupid and they cross in the middle of the summer (hello our summers are 115). Then their families in Mexico think they have every right in the world to SUE ARIZONA because their family member died. Correct me if I'm wrong, their family member CAME ILLEGALLY INTO ARIZONA!!! They have no right to sue us, especially when it would be my tax dollars paying for the lawsuit. The healthcare system in AZ sucks. Why am I (again through taxes) paying for illegals to have health insurance when LEGALS can't get it. Hello issues there!!!! I fully supported prop. 201 (or it might be 202). The law went into effect, honestly I don't even think it has gone into effect yet because the illegal immigrants are fighting it (talk about oxymoron). It was voted on in November though. The prop. pretty much said that illegal immigrants can't get a drivers liscence, voter registration card or apply and receive government benefits (ie. food stamps, AHCCCS (healthcare)). The problem is is that the illegal immigrants and their lawyers are saying that they can't go to ER's. That's not what the prop is saying. If you have a dire medical emergency, they have to treat you. But if you are going to use the ER as your doctors office, then they don't have to see you. Again, my tax dollars shouldn't be paying for them to get benefits that I ALMOST DIDN'T GET and I'm a LEGAL resident of the state and the country. Now you have noticed I'm not saying up and deport them. That would cost even more money, which AZ just does not have. But somethings gotta give. I'm not sure if y'all heard about this but in 2002 (or it was 2003) four students from Wilson High School were on a field trip to NY for a science competition. They were at Niagra Falls. Being they are hispanic, they stuck out like sore thumbs and were detained. INS found out that their parents had brought these children (four different families) into the country illegally when the children were around the ages of 5-7. None of them new anything but the United States. INS has been trying to deport them for the last two-three years. A judge ruled last week that they didn't have to leave the US. I should mention that all four of these kids are making something of their lives. They are going to school, working good jobs. In essence they aren't being a drain on the Arizona economy. As for speaking the language. As much as I feel they all (no matter what country your from) need to learn English. If you go to another country, yes you might run into quite a few people who know English (a lot of countries are making their school age children learn English) but you shouldn't expect it. Which means you should learn the language. Whether it's taking a crash course before you go or taking a dictionary. You need it to communicate. With that being said, it's not going to happen (learning of English), especially in states like Arizona where we cater to people speaking Spanish. Because we cater to them, some (not all) will never learn English. Which means they will never have a high paying job, they will never go to college (because let's face it, your going to have to know some English to succeed in a four year school, plus 4 years schools make you take and pass a test to check your English). So because we cater to them, they never learn English, they never get to the high paying jobs, they become the drain on the economy. I should mention that this is not to say that non immigrants don't behave this way. My friend is a perfect example. She barely graduated high school. She has a job at JC Penny Outlet, where she makes at most 9 bucks an hour. Has three kids. She has to relay on a tremendous amount of government assistance. Now, I love my friend but my tax money is going to pay for her choices which some, where just not the wisest. These are just my opinions. Agree with me, disagree with me but respect that they are my opinions. |
The language thing got me thinking. It reminded me of something a professor once told me.
"We expect everyone in the US to speak English. Then we go overseas, and expect everyone there to speak English, too." |
