New one . . . Opals/Emeralds . . .

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...922263901&rd=1

Welcomes objective questions but NOT questions regarding where they got them or why they are selling them?

If it bothers them to get that type of email then maybe they should stop?

EDITED to include these items:

31 dollars for a t-shirt??!!!

dakareng 07-21-2004 12:29 AM

Custom badges may be special ordered by calling the jewelry manager at HQ. There is a link from pibetaphi.org's jewelry page. The choices to think about are whether you want just two stones along the shaft or the crown shaft (12 stones) and whether you want a stone in the point (used to have a choice of anything... and maybe with a custom badge you would. The standard ones look like diamond or pearl is the only option).

If you ever go to St Louis, there is a display at HQ of heritage badges... talk about bling!!

No joke... When I was there in February, we oooh'ed and ahhh'ed. The thing I found interesting was the massive variety of old-timey guards they had. There was one shaped like a carnation that I thought was particularly cool.

I had placed a bid on that one, but I didn't get it. :(

I really love that opal and emerald one, but I think it will soar out of my price range eventually. I'm the current high bidder, but I don't see that lasting long.

Lady Pi Phi 07-21-2004 12:21 PM

Okay, that "hug a Pi Phi" t-shirt is now at $47 US!

Does that seem crazy to anyone else? It's a t-shirt!

That's almost $70 Canadian!!!!!

angelove 07-21-2004 01:30 PM

After seeing the price on that, I wish I hadn't given all my old t-shirts to younger Pi Phis ...

dakareng 07-21-2004 01:38 PM

OMG-- I have one of those "Hug a Pi Phi shirts"!! Only I didn't buy mine off Ebay! They were very popular in the early 80s--

I agree, $47 is absurd for a screen printed t-shirt but people go crazy when they think something is unusual or collectable.

angelove 07-21-2004 02:47 PM

It's hard to believe something from the early '80s is "vintage." When I hear or see the word "vintage" I think of poodle skirts or space-age patterns from the '50s.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go check the mirror for gray hairs ...

Does anyone else think this is strange??

Perhaps it came from a chapter house. I suppose I could see a Pi Phi house having silver with letters engraved on it. Stranger things have happened.

Then again, the carving doesn't look very "professional". And if it was part of a set, you'd think the rest of it would pop up somewhere, too. Maybe someone had it specially engraved, or did it themselves for some reason.

It's only going for $9.50, so it might not be that valuable.

I think it looks a little creepy, but that's just me! Probably from a chapter house or maybe one place setting that someone had.

breathesgelatin 07-23-2004 11:02 AM

I'm so excited because I'm still winning the badge I'm bidding on (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW). I hope, I hope, I hope I get it!

Has anyone ever bought the Pi Beta Phi matted engravings that are always for sale on ebay? I was thinking it would be really nice to have something classy and Pi Phi to put on my walls when I graduate and get a real apartment...

Here are some weird Pi Phi ebay things:

Pi Beta Phi cowboy hat:

Pi Beta Phi zebra towel:

That badge is beautiful!! I hope you get it too. I think the Pi Phi doormat is pretty tacky too out of the random stuff.

I'm sad to see there's three other badges on there, but I can't afford the opal one and I don't need another plain gold one.

dakareng 07-23-2004 07:12 PM

That cowboy hat looks like something the host committee wore for the Houston Convention. I don't think it really is one of their hats but thre are so many Pi Phis in Texas that it doesn't surprise me that they make cowboy hats that have a Pi Phi logo.

I bet that fork was once part of a set that belonged to a chapter. It would not surprise me if a lot of chapter property was misplaced when the chapter lost their housing (which was common in the 70s) and it is now resurfacing on Ebay simply because it's a relatively easy way to sell things. It may be worth a lot more than whatever the bid is, but that's the risk you take with an auction. Things can go for less than they are worth, or more... both new and old. Collecting spoons is more common than collecting forks which may explain the low bids

A couple of members bought two of the "matted engravings" for our house. I think they ended up being disappointed with what they had bought (quality and appearance). I'm not sure how much they paid, but anything over $5 would be a rip-off (at least from my point of view).

piphimaggie 07-26-2004 08:54 PM

HI Susan!
Yes, I agree...the engravings appear to be a dime a dozen for all the greek organizations and the ones that were purchased for our house were nothing breathtaking. However, if you'd like to invest in a framing job, I'm sure a PiPhi engraving of any quality would look fabulous. Ours are just matted and unframed at the moment...perhaps my chapter should look into getting some frames :-p

Pearl/Sapphire . . .
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...923201613&rd=1
Why do they say it is vintage? You can still buy them!

Wine&SilverBlue 07-28-2004 02:52 PM

ughh... a bunch of new pins are up on ebay.. including a pledge pin. i checked out some of the items that the high bidder had also bought --- she bought about 500 other pins from all different groups!!! wowwowowow.. i wonder if she resells them?

The high bidder on these badges is the same person and I was wondering if anyone knew if this bidder is a Pi Phi. I don't have the funds to rescue these, but I'm just curious. You can PM me if you'd like!

" Description

* Gold arrowhead pin with the beta on the center

* Was worn during my pledging ceremony

* Measures approx 1/2 in long

* Sorry that the picture is blurry"

aaaaaahhh.. someone please contact that girl and tell her she shouldnt be selling HER OWN pledge pin on ebay!!!!!!!!!

aaaaaaaaaggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh  :o :(

Lady Pi Phi 08-03-2004 03:01 PM

She's only starting the bidding at $1. Maybe someone should buy it and then return it to headquarters.

I'd try and get it, but the seller only ships to the US.

Speechpath 08-03-2004 04:10 PM

She is selling all sorts of Pi Phi stuff, cups, key chains etc. Wish somebody could've gotten her darn pledge pin back from her. Who knows, maybe she was initiated and her real badge has yet to show up.

angelove 08-04-2004 10:59 AM

This is kind of cool

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...924255416&rd=1

I can't imagine wanting someone else's initiation certificate, but it does have Amy Burnham Onken's signature, and it's also neat to see how little the certificates have changed since the 1920s.

jharb 08-04-2004 11:02 AM

I'd probably bid on it and send it to central office so they could have it in their archives (since it has amy burnham onken's signature and all!).

Wine&SilverBlue 08-04-2004 09:28 PM

arrow ring (they have a few sizes) :)

I don't think I've ever seen anything like this. I like the new ones better though. Too bad about the historical part of it. It will most likely be bid up by a collector. :(

cute bracelet! Did anyone see that the pledge pin is up to $40! I'm surprised!

Wine&SilverBlue 08-09-2004 08:48 PM

i know! didnt the other one go for $51? ugh, im more surprised that this girl is selling her own pledge pin and came right out and admitted it in the listing!!!

Wine&SilverBlue 08-09-2004 10:01 PM

Look what I just won!!!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...e=STRK:MEWN:IT

and for only $7.50! :)

(They are usually $20-25 if you can find them in the stores, or same + $6 shipping from most online greek stores)

wooohooo!

(I've been looking for these in a while in my size, but the greek store at school was always out)

dakareng 08-09-2004 10:43 PM

Having checked out the OTHER things purchased by the bidders on the Mother's pin, I bet they are Pi Phis... lots of arrows being bid on and won.... While it is interesting, I like the modern Mother's pin... and yes, I bought one for my mom (heck, with three Pi Phi daughters, if she'd gone to college, our CPP was going to nominate her for AI).

I'm shocked that the pledge pins went for so much. The cost to chapters is less than $10. While I will admit to buying a pin off Ebay, I also did my research and knew what similar pins would go for new... and the seller could tell me enough that I knew it was 60 years old.

For those posting the "non official" arrows-- thank you! I collect interesting arrow pins (most officers do) that can be worn on my lab coat, or a jacket....

arrowgirl 08-09-2004 11:22 PM

This is really cute:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...925066231&rd=1

As for the non-Pi Phi arrow pins, they had a bunch up a while back, with turquoise on them, that were really nice. If only I had money!!

Unfreakingbelievable! The new jeweled badges sell for that much (or close)!

Maybe instead of giving the pledge pins to new members, the chapters can sell them on eBay to raise money for Arrowmont and Links to Literacy.
