Pedro vs Zito tonight. I like a fully rested Pedro over Zito.

GO YANKEES!!!

This city is going nuts - yesterday was a great day to be from Chicago. Not only do the Cubs win a post-season series for the first time since 1908, the Bears also managed to win a game! Life is good!

Now, if Wood could only stop the garbage strike....

Thank you! Why oh why do I let myself get so caught up in these series, when I KNOW that I am destined to be disappointed! Yet again, the Giants and A's snatch defeat from the jaws of victory... I do give props to the Red Sox and the Marlins...another wild card World Series would be great, just like a Red Sox/Cubs series-just NO YANKEES (although I am sure that Fox is rooting for a Yankees/Cubs series for some serious ratings!).

I'm guessing this one goes 6 or 7, and gotta go with my boys, the Yanks winning.

What concerns me is, even though the Yanks have the home field, lefty hitters like Ortiz and Nixon could use the short right field at the stadium for their advantage.

I'd start Pettite whenever possible in this series - despite Nixon's great at bat against Rincon in game 4, he's awful against lefties, and I'd rather take my chances with Kapler than Nixon.

Going to be a hell of a series though. Wouldn't want the year to end any other way than a Yanks/Sox series.

Collin

word - pettitte decimates the sox, and he's been very solid in the postseason in his career.

clemens in fenway, however, didn't work so well the last time.

If the sox can steal a split in the casa de ruth, they'll have a shot to pull it out. If they go home down 0-2, it'll be like 99 again. Also if they have to punt by pitching burkett twice, i might mail it in for them.

I think a Red Sox/Cubs series would bring in huge ratings. Just to see which one would break the curse.

there is no curse. both teams just sucked for many years.

4-0, CUBS in the first inning....

It's going to be a hell of a game....

Cubs Lose 9-8 in 11 innings. ONE HELL OF A CRAZY BALLGAME! Seven Homers.

Florida leads the National League Championship Series 1-0. Best of 7 series.

Sox/Yankees Game one and Chicago/Florida Game Two tomorrow night.

i think old style is quickly moving up the list of most requested beers... every cubs/marlins "party" (and by party i mean friends houses who were watching the game) i went to, all of the guys were drinking old style! sick!

DO NOT DISS OLD STYLE!!!! It is a staple in Wisconsin/Illinois and was my late grandfathers favorite...I never saw him without an old style close bye :)

I don't think I could take another Clemens performance like the last time (although Valentin won't be there to use him like he's a batting practice pitcher this time).

This series scares me - but hopefully Burkett finds his way out there a couple of times.

i'm hoping he doesn't... i don't think any good would come out of it if he does..

mmcat 10-08-2003 07:33 AM

sigh....cubbies lost, but the marlins had to fight to get it.

Thrillhouse 10-08-2003 08:10 AM

Go marlins, they withstood every cubs comeback at their place and still won.

Shows how much things have changed - Kent Mercker started two games in the 99 series, including Game One - what I wouldn't give for a repeat of that.

Also...the Globe had as the front cover of its Playoff section today a cartoon, with Darth Vader (Steinbrenner's face) fighting Luke Skywalker (Theo Epstein's face).

i'm still laughing about all the bets that are being placed between the mayors and others right now... you know it's going to be a great series when that happens..

Usually, you'd look at blowtorch bullpen specialist Antonio "El Pulpo" Alfonseca and think he was at fault here, but there was a big breakdown within the entire bullie.

I also enjoy the "Game 1 Starter: Tim Wakefield" conundrum . . . which is this:

Wake usually gets pounded by the Yankees - see the time Jose Canseco hit a 3-run homer onto the turnpike, completely ending the sox season in 2001, etc etc. But this season, his numbers are really good against the Yanks - so am I happy to see this? I can't decide.

And - even worse - tonight, I get 'regional coverage' of the Cubbies game. I think i'm going to have a heart attack.

Weren't you supposed to come to chicago sometime soon? You should come now because there are so many wasted bandwagon cubs fans on the northside of the city and this team attracts very good looking girls.
