I guess looks can be DECEIVING.

You know... I think about this from time to time, too. I mean, when you go thru break-ups and stuff, you always think that things would be different "if." But in Halle's case, what could be different? Like you said, girlfriend is gorgeous and professionally has it going on. Most men would give a testicle to get with her. Yet, she is unlucky in love. Sometimes it can be discouraging. It's like, D@mn, if Halle ain't havin' no luck, where is the hope for the rest of us??? But I hope to God she is not messin' around with the little white boy. I mean, for real.

WenD08 10-03-2003 11:43 AM

unfortunately, Halle is in a Sisterhood of famous Black women who are unlucky in love (Gladys, Natalie Cole, Aretha, Chaka, etc.). the only person who's on her first marriage is Whitney aka Whitless, go figure:rolleyes: it seems to me that a number of men can't deal with a successful Black woman even if in the beginning it was cool. i don't think these men could take being called Mr. "Diva" and stepped. with Halle, she's got a makeup contract, an Oscar, Emmy, Golden Globe, more movie roles, etc. bottom line, she's A-list right now. but Eric? where's his next album? when will he tour? "Mr. Halle Berry" wasn't working especially w/his more "moderate" career. i do hope she takes a nice break from men...she could use one...
side note, Ideal08, did you get my email? sorry so late. i wanted to know what yo decided...:D

I think we, as Black women especially, have to remember that those superficial things don't necessarily bring happiness, much less contentment. What could be different?? Now, I don't know girlfriend, but:
She could have a different/better personality
She could have a different attitude
She could have a different relationship with the Lord
She could have a different outlook on her relationship with her father
She could have a different outlook about what it means to be successful
She could have a different criteria for selecting men

I could go on, but you get the picture.... We have to remember that all that glitters ain't gold. We might not have the body or the face or the million dollar contracts, but we have OH SO MUCH ELSE TO OFFER!! :D

Also add Diahann Carroll to this list. I'm showing my age here -- I even had a Julia Halloween costume and could relate, because Mamatrap is a nurse. :D

Yup, that is surprising that Whitless is still with that lame CLOWN Booby Brown (hey, that rhymed :p ). And I don't know if you would call Oprah "unlucky," but she needed to have dropped her steady man Stedman years ago, IMO.

I know in many cases what you say is true WenD08, but I think sometimes we are too quick to blame the other person and say they can't handle a "strong black woman" yada yada. The danger of this is that we will continue to make bad choices, because after all, it's not our fault, it's them. I think we ALL could stand to be introspective after a break up and say "What was my ROLE in this?" not he couldn't deal with my successful/strong self. I think even if that is the case, the question becomes what lead me to choose a man who was not more secure with himself?

iceandivy 10-03-2003 02:13 PM

I heard that it has nothing to do with her success....

I heard that she is moody because she is diabetic, and I may be wrong, but she was married what... twice before or something... way before she was really famous...rumor has it that she got beat a lot by men. Heard she's practically deaf in one ear because of it.

But rumors are rumors, and they could be wrong.

I also heard that he was cheating on her with his ex before she was really really the ish with the awards and stuff.

I have met Eric Benet. Hung out with him after a concert with some friends in his room watching Jerry Lewis movies and bugging out before he got all big and whatnot. He was a really nice person... down to earth... and talked about his daughter a lot. People change, but he seemed like back then he was genuinely nice.

Soror, lol, I know plenty of genuinely nice womanizers. None quite as fine as Eric, but womanizers nonetheless. :)

Nikki, here's some information about Ann "Keeping it Real" Iverson and her babypeople from the Philadelphia Inquirer:

Inqlings | Iverson's mom awaits birth of twins
By Michael Klein
Inquirer Columnist

The Iverson household is awaiting the patter of little Reeboks again.

But it's not Sixers guard Allen Iverson and his wife, Tawanna, who are expecting.

It's AI's mother, Ann Iverson, 44. She is very pregnant with twin boys and was in Texas on Friday awaiting their birth.

The babies' father is George "Jack" Jackson, a mild-mannered Army veteran who is Ann's longtime beau. The two knew each other years ago and reconnected in the mid-1990s.

Ann Iverson was 15 when Allen was born in 1975. His biological father was Allen Broughton, who abandoned Ann and Allen when his son was 3. Ann also has two daughters:Brandy, born in 1979, and Iiesha, born in 1991; their father is Michael Freeman.

If you're counting the leaves on the family tree, the twins will become uncles of Allen and Tawanna Iverson's children - daughter Tiaura, 8, and sons Allen Jr., 5, and Isaiah, born Aug. 8.

LMAO. Why am I not surprised that Ann's babydaddy is ghetto? On another list I'm one, we were discussing this and one of the other posters said she also wouldn't be surprised if Gloria James, LeBron's Ann-esque mama, got pregnant.

Yeah, AI's littlest baby was born Aug. 8 and the babe's uncles will be younger. But I have friends like that, because they come from an origin family of 13 kids.

Ice Cube Signs On To Make 'XXX' Movie

We've seen him battle "the Man," a giant snake and a thieving ghetto Santa Claus, but are people ready to see Ice Cube as an "extreme" action hero?

Well, Vin Diesel and Revolution Studios seem to think so. No sooner than you can say "2 Fast 2 Furious," Diesel and director Rob Cohen have handed over another franchise to a new team of players: Cube and "Die Another Day" director Lee Tamahori.

But unlike the "Fast and the Furious" series, Diesel and Cohen aren't abandoning the series entirely. They'll serve as producers when Cube steps into the role of another criminal who's offered a chance to stay out of the pen by working for the government.

As work finishes up on the first installment of "The Chronicles of Riddick", the first of three proposed sequels to Diesel's "Pitch Black," the actor is eager to move on his long-discussed "Hannibal" project, according to the Hollywood trade paper Variety, rather than reprise yet another character right away.

As for Cube, the man who got his start rapping in N.W.A has become increasingly open-minded when it comes to choosing his acting roles, with a slew of pictures on the way in which he plays everything from a family man driving across the country with his kids ("Are We There Yet?") to a junior high school custodian who becomes the basketball team's coach (see "Ice Cube Puts Off Recording With Dre To Focus On Harassing Kids").

With so many projects on his plate, "XXX2" may prove difficult for Cube to squeeze into his schedule, but Revolution Studios is reportedly hoping to get moving sooner rather than later, eyeing a 2005 release. He's already finished work on "Barbershop 2" — with the long-completed "Torque" ready to hit theaters in January — but he still has to make "Are We There Yet?" before he can get down to any spy business.

"XXX2" will reportedly skip the globetrotting of the first flick, instead taking place primarily in the Washington, D.C., area.

My dad's like that, but he is the youngest of 17. Matter of fact, one of his neices, who is about 5 years older than him, likes to tell the story of how he chaparoned her first date to a drive in when she was 16. She and her date kept sending him to the concession stand to get popcorn! LOL

My dad also has a nephew (RIP Uncle Roy!) who was about 6 years older than him and more like a brother to him. As a matter of fact, I was about 15 before i realized that he was NOT my dad's brother!

Jawn's Juice Tidbits

LeBron and 3LW: This Just In…: Adrienne Bailon of 3LW is dating LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers. A source tells me that Lebron flew Adrienne to his exhibition game last week in Cleveland to introduce her to friends and family. Additionally, 3LW are featured in a new massive Times Square billboard and national print ad campaign for the South Pole Clothing Line.

Soul Food: Just Married: “Soul Food” stud Rockmond Dunbar recently jumped the broom. The talented actor recently wed his girlfriend, model Ivy Holmes, on Sept. 19 at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles. The entire cast of “Soul Food” attended the ceremony, in addition to actress Dawnn Lewis (“A Different World”) and comedian Chris Spencer. The couple just returned from their honeymoon in Hawaii.

Speaking of “Soul Food”… The fifth and final season of the show begins in February 2004.:( The season finished taping on August 20 in Toronto.

Christopher Williams: On The Comeback: Good news! R&B singer Christopher Williams has a new record deal! The singer known for songs like “Dreamin” and “All I See” has inked a new deal with a new label called Rock Solid Records. Los Angeles Lakers guard Gary Payton and partner The General own the record label. The company’s first release will bow in October and is called “Gary Payton Presents Rock Solid Entertainment.” Look for new music from Christopher next year.

Can’t Say Names: Now the Hollywood buzz is that the real reason that a certain industry couple got divorced is because the wife owed the IRS millions of dollars. The IRS started calling her husband -- he wanted no parts of her debt -- and thus came their split. *

What former teenage sitcom star, now grown and occasionally guest starring on sitcoms and doing the touring play circuit, apparently has a child he doesn’t claim? Sources say that the actor has a child by a singer, and the kid looks just like her daddy. Apparently, said actor needs to stop being a deadbeat dad and take care of his family matters.
Me thinks, Darius McCrary of Family Matters who was in a couple of plays and last night's Girlfriends. I never was too enamored with Eddie "Funky Hunk" Winslow, anyway but DeadBeat Daddies and Mamas sicken me.

CTFU that you called him "Funky Hunk"

I saw Christopher Williams last week in a gospel play called "Just Be a Man About It". He was bigger than I remembered but he still has a nice voice.

4-1-1 ENTERTAINMENT FOR THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 6TH, 2003

A new autobiography of Sammy Davis Jr. is ripping the zipper off his amazing sex life. The book, In Black and White, reveals Sammy's fascination with strippers and porn stars. He was reportedly so fascinated with "Deep Throat" star Linda Lovelace that he arranged to have sex meetings with her with the approval of his wife. In the 70's he traveled everywhere in his Rolls Royce with an entourage of strippers and porn stars. The legendary entertainer died at the age of 64 in 1990 from cancer. Sammy's third wife, Altovoise Davis, said to have fallen on hard times and is living in poverty after spending his estate. Atovoise did not help with the autobiography because she wanted to get paid for her information. Quincy Jones is preparing to bring Sammy's life story to the Broadway stage. I'm sure they won't go into details about the strippers and porn stars.

Comedian Mark Curry will be hosting BET's new reality show Coming to the Stage. The show airs Tuesday nights at 9pm on BET.

Arsenio Hall is notorious for being quiet about his private life and now published reports are revealing the truth. Arsenio has a four- year-old son by the ex-vice president of his production company. The pretty brunette and Arsenio lived secretly together for many years, but now they are no longer together. Arsenio is supporting his child and friends say he loves being a dad.

Samuel L. Jackson and his wife, Latonya Richardson, are working on a project for the UPN Network. They are developing a show about a black family and its struggle to maintain control of a network of churches. Latonya will star and Sam will be the executive producer.

The movie Bad Boys Two is coming out on video and DVD on December 9th. The summer blockbuster starred Will Smith, Martin Lawrence and Gabrielle Union.

Patti LaBelle will be honored at this year's Jamerican Film Festival. Actress/singer Sheryl Lee Ralph puts together this film festival that ranks as one of the top in the country. The dates are November 12th-16th in Jamaica. If you're interested in a movie career you should be there with the writers, producers, directors and the stars. For more info call 1-323-936-8951.

The FX Network has cancelled the Orlando Jones Show. Jones is best known for his role in the movie Drumline. The Actor/comedian is also known as the pitchman for 7-UP.

Luther Vandross Live is out. The Live album was recorded at Radio City Hall two months before his stroke. Luther is currently recovering at a rehabilitation facility. The Best of Boyz II Men is also out in stores.

Everyone is buzzing about the hot romance between Lenny Kravitz and actress Nicole Kidman. The former Mrs. Tom Cruise has found love with the rocker and sources say the two are engaged. Next year Lenny will be revealing his clothing line.

At the movies on Friday it's Kill Bill with Uma Thurman, Vivica A. Fox, Lucy Lui and Samual L. Jackson. Quentin Tarantino (Pulp Fiction) directs this action packed drama about a vengeful bride who wakes up from a coma looking for the people who left her for dead on her wedding day. Vivica is hot in this movie. Check out the action scenes. Vivica starts filming the female sequel to Barber Shop soon. Filming on the movie Beauty Shop takes place in two weeks in Baltimore. Vivica replaces Queen Latifah who was supposed to star in the movie. Check out Vivica on the cover of the men's magazine King. Vivica looks like Lil' Kim with her bikini and garter belt. In the article, Vivica says she is a "ghetto classy chick." She also poses with boyfriend rapper 50 Cent.

Man Stabbed and Killed at Snoop Concert

(10/8/03, 7 a.m. ET) -- A man attending a rap concert that featured Snoop Dogg, Ludacris, Xzibit, Obie Trice, Lil Jon & The EastSide Boyz, and 213 was stabbed to death during the nine-hour show in Devore, California, according to the Los Angeles Times. AIN'T NO WAY IN HAYLE you will find me at a 9 hour rap concert.

Paul Molina, 29, of Huntington Park, California was found with stab wounds to his upper body Saturday night (October 4), in the bathroom of the Hyundai Pavilion at Glen Helen Regional Park in Devore, California. He was pronounced dead at San Bernardino Community Hospital. Molina's death did not stop the concert which was sponsored by Los Angeles radio station, KPWR-FM, also known as Power 106.

The station's general manager Val Maki shared how saddened he was by Molina's death with MTV, "All of us are very saddened that this incident occurred. We take the safety and security of our fans very seriously. We've never had an incident such as this at one of our events. Our hearts go out to the friends and loved ones who are affected."

At press time police were still investigating several leads according to a spokesperson from the San Bernardino County's Sheriff's Department, but no arrests had been made.
