this threadlooked really cool and I thought this was great for greek unity! I had fun learning about groups that I previous had not had a chance to meet in college. So here it goes.....
Alpha Chi Omega: the music angle is really cool. I love the way you came up with your name. Alpha Delta Pi: I like the fact that you are the oldest existing group and can say you were the first Alpha Epsilon Phi: who can dislike a group that supports pediatric AIDS. What a noble cause! Alpha Gamma Delta: very cool mascot. I've never been a big fan of squirels, but you make they very cute and fun! And you also don't you the terminology big sis/ lil' sis which I found very interesting. Alpha Omicron Pi: I loved the AOPi's that were on my campus. A friend of my from high school rushed as a senior and they welcomed her with open arms. They were so good for her! Alpha Phi: they had what I must say was the prettiest house at my university! And they were very fun women to hang out with! Alpha Sigma Alpha: I like the "aspire, seek, attain". Great, concise, and to the point. Alpha Sigma Tau: I like that you work with Habitat. That group has helped so many people. Alpha Xi Delta: I love the cute teddy bear. And any Alpha XI I have ever met is such a laid back women. Chi Omega: I love the commitment to scholarship this group has! At ECU they were always in the top 3 for GPA. And when I was on Panhellenic the Chi O that was on exec with me was one of the sweetest people I ever met! Delta Delta Delta: I love the dolphin! And I also like the fact that you work with children through St Jude's. Delta Gamma: the anchor is a very cool symbol. Delta Phi Epsilon: I like the fact that you were founded at a professional school, law school at that. Delta Zeta: I like the turtle! I also liked the DZ's at my school. They were very welcoming to everyone! Gamma Phi Beta: this is a philanthropy that you don't see everyday, camping. What a great way to get girls intersted in something different! Kappa Alpha Theta: I LOVE the fact that you work with CASA. That is such an important group! way to go ladies! Kappa Delta: When I was getting my hair done a few weeks ago someone dropped by to see my stylist. It was a lady who was selling girl scout cookies and was getting her to help sell them. I never knew this awesome and cool girl was a KD. I've known her for 2 yrs and never knew! This women is such a credit to KD! I love her! Kappa Kappa Gamma: All the shades of blue that you use on your website is just beautiful. The key is also a really cool symbol; it's very different Phi Mu: I like your creed. It's definetly long, but very worthwhile to read. Phi Sigma Sigma: i love your commitment to diversity and to helping everyone! And as someone who is a geek for everything Egyptian, i totally dig the Spyhnix (sorry, can't spell it though) Pi Beta Phi: Literacy is such a worthwhile cause! When I thought I wanted to be a teacher, I saw so many kids who struggled to read and it was sad. I'm glad to see someone focus on that. Sigma Delta Tau: I like going through your website! It is very user friendly and visually appealing. Sigma Kappa: I like your motto and I love the fact that you use the dove; that was the mascot of the local I was in in college. Sigma Sigma Sigma: I love the sailboat and the violets! Also the Sigma's at ECU were top noch! Theta Phi Alpha : when looking through this website, I got really sucked in! First off, love the penguin! I also love the variety of merchandise that you have for sale on your website as well. I also read up on your pin. I like the fact that Theta Phi's are supposed to state what they want done with their pin upon their death. That really shows that if you have to include you pin in your will, you really truly mean that you are sisters for life!! way to go ladies!! Zeta Tau Alpha: Zeta does such great work with Susan G. Komen. That foundation has done so much for breast cancer victims and raised the awareness amoung women! Outstanding! KDdani, this was an awesome thread to start.... I wish more people would start positive fun threads like this! :D :) :p |
Just Remember, No Matter What anyone may think being from a Campus, All Campuses (Campi) or each to their own!:)
Some are and some are not so Strong, that does not make them Bad, does it in a National sense? |
I think I'm gonna take the easy route and comment on only the ones I know personally - but only because I'm lazy at this very moment. I'm kind of in love with every NPC group, and admire each and every one of them. I cant even tell you how many times I've drooled over the back of the green book / the new visions books / the poster hanging in the Greek Office of all the badges and basic information.
PHI SIGMA SIGMA - My loves, my ladies, my best friends. I would honestly be LOST without these women. The ones that I met through my chapter, the ones I went to high school with, and the ones that I've been talking to through greekchat. We are such a diverse group of women who seem to blend together effortlessly. My chapter is a little odd, not gonna lie ( we're big on being total goofballs, seriously..come to Bwater and you can see for yourself ) but we always manage to do what we need to do and be there for each other. <3 to my Siggles, more than you could ever know. GAMMA PHI BETA - I've got to say that I hold the sisters of GPhiB pretty high up there. If I wasn't a Phi Sig here, I would probably be one of them. Their sisters have been nothing but nice to me for the entire time I've known them, and even were there for me sometimes when my own sisters couldnt be. They are an amazing group of women, and I owe many of my good times at BSC to them. Even today, not a day passes by when I dont get a smile or a hug or a laugh from one of their sisters. THETA PHI ALPHA - Another group of amazing girls. I'm not as close to them as my Sigs & the GPhiB's...but the ones I am close to, I love. I love how Bwaters chapter has the saying "...Because you never see a penquin alone." They are a group of fun loving girls and I know that when ever I see one of them, we're going to have a good time. As you can see, my school has a wicked small greek system ( 3 Sororities, 3 Fraternities, 2 Coeds ) but I would LOVE to get to know more :) |

Ummmm....but the point was that using the term 'wicked' is NOT limited to Boston. . . . |
I just found this great thread, and as it is a very rainy Saturday I thought I might as well make my time indoors educational and learn more about the NPC groups I haven’t been as familiar with. (It took longer than I thought, because all are so interesting.) We only had six NPC groups on our campus. The stories are so fascinating – it makes me wish there was more emphasis on educating members about the other NPC groups and their histories at the collegiate level.
Alpha Chi Omega – Their badge is really beautiful Alpha Delta Pi – Love, love love the violets Alpha Epsilon Phi – They were founded at Barnard too (too bad they kicked us all off in 1913 :) ) Alpha Gamma Delta – I love that their mascot is the squirrel (though I couldn’t find why – is that a secret?) Alpha Omicron Pi – totally biased of course, but my favorite thing about AOII is that our ritual has not changed since 1897. I’ve even seen a founder’s handwritten copy of our ritual – which was pretty inspiring. Of course, I also love the badge and all it symbolizes. Alpha Phi – I’ve always been a fan of the Lazy Phi badge Alpha Sigma Alpha – I think it’s great that the founders didn’t give up back in 1913-4, which was undoubtedly the easier road to take. The phoenix analogy if very fitting and I’m sure that perseverance is an inspiration to their membership Alpha Sigma Tau – I like how there is meaning behind the various variations of the badge. Alpha Xi Delta – I really like the vision - Inspiring women to realize their potential Chi Omega – I’ve always been partial to the monogram-style badges Delta Delta Delta – I like the open motto - Let us steadfastly love one another, and how they incorporate the trident as a badge guard. Delta Gamma – I like how the badge symbolizes hope. I like the new member pin too, since my chapter is Pi Alpha, but I’m sure IIA means something entirely different to the Delta Gamma’s than it does to me :) Delta Phi Epsilon – Impressed by their Pearl Program Delta Zeta – the Delta Zeta National Historical Museum is fabulous Gamma Phi Beta – I love their support of alumnae initiation Kappa Alpha Theta – They have a very unique badge shape Kappa Delta – our local chapter uses the ladybug as a mascot, don’t recall why but I’ve always liked it Kappa Kappa Gamma – Always grateful for the support their Barnard chapter gave to our founders back in the day. Phi Mu – I like their open motto - The Faithful Sisters, and their mascot “Sir Fidel”. Phi Sigma Sigma – Have always liked their choice of the Sphinx Pi Beta Phi – I’ve known some great Pi Phi’s over the years and have always been a fan of the arrow Pi Phi badge. Sigma Delta Tau – Really like their Mother’s Day Flower Project Sigma Kappa – I’ve always loved their new member pin Sigma Sigma Sigma – Like the sailboat symbolism - continual forward motion, never moving backward, but progressing towards its destination Theta Phi Alpha – I love penguins! Zeta Tau Alpha – I’ve always liked the badge and crown. I found the Chain of Chapters to be a powerful way to illustrate the connection of past present and future |
I've been meaning to do this for a while...
Alpha Chi Omega – I love the badge, and the story of their founding. Alpha Delta Pi – First and Finest! Thanks for showing the rest of the NPC sisterhoods the way! Alpha Epsilon Phi – The giraffe is a cute mascot! Alpha Gamma Delta – I admire their devotion to their philanthropy, and am glad to see what a prominent place in has on their national website. Alpha Omicron Pi – Beautiful badge. I also find it interesting that they do not have a crest, and love that they use the rose in place of it. Alpha Phi – Your creed is amazing! Alpha Sigma Alpha – I love the fact that you have primary and supplementary colors. Alpha Sigma Tau – I love the colors, and I love their open motto – Active Self-Reliant and Trustworty. Alpha Xi Delta – I’ve always loved this group; I love the name, their badge, and TFJ totally intriques me. Chi Omega – my sisterhood, my home. Delta Delta Delta – I love the idea of Psi Psi Psi, and I love the motto. Delta Gamma – I always wanted to attend an AnchorSplash; it sounds like a great time for a good cause! Delta Phi Epsilon – I knew nothing about this group until I started posting on GC, and am so impressed with the DPHIEs on this board – esp. DeniseDPHIE and Iris. I admire the way they can get their points across and still remain ladylike. Delta Zeta – I knew a lot of DZs at Western Illinois, and liked them all. Great girls, real campus leaders. Gamma Phi Beta - My favorite badge, and motto; founded upon a rock is great. Kappa Alpha Theta - I love the kite; beautiful badge. Kappa Delta – The EIU chapter is home to a great group of girls; they’re involved in campus activities, smart, and lots of fun to be around. Kappa Kappa Gamma – I love fleur-de-lis; they’re so delicate and beautiful Phi Mu – I love the open motto, and pink is my favorite color! Phi Sigma Sigma – I remember attending their presentation at Western Illinois before they colonized and was totally knocked out by how great it was and how much the presentors loved their sisterhood. Pi Beta Phi – Love the colors, and like the national website. Sigma Delta Tau – I love the badge and their commitment to their philanthropy. Sigma Kappa - I love the colors, and their symbols. Sigma Sigma Sigma – Love the colors, and love the sailboat. Theta Phi Alpha – This is the sorority my mom almost pledged, so it has a special place in her heart. She was impressed with the quality of women in the Loyola Chicago chapter. Zeta Tau Alpha – Beautiful badge, beautiful colors. My niece loves the crowns; she calls them the princess sorority. I also admire their work with the Susan G. Komen foundation. Non NPC’s I admire: Kappa Beta Gamma – My mom’s sorority home. Her positive experience inspired me to find my Panhellenic home. Delta Sigma Theta – One of my mother’s former officemates is a Delta, and I’ve met several through various means (work, social, community, etc.) I have never met a Delta I did not look up to and admire. |
I am from TKE...and I am going to try to do my best
Alpha Chi Omega-My mom and Sister are A-Chi-O so they are the greatest...sorry ladies Alpha Delta Pi-My frater George stster is one from Fullerton Alpha Epsilon Phi- Their beginnings are great...they founded a organiztion for jewish women, but were open to everyone Alpha Gamma Delta-They are starting a@ Chapman and are doing good Alpha Omicron Pi- Everyone loves a panda Alpha Phi-I'm not gonna lie...My mom isn't a great fan so I have a bias...they also aren't that nice to our organization on our campus Alpha Sigma Alpha-"Heritage, which is expressed through creed, ritual and history" Alpha Sigma Tau-They only have one chapter on the West Coast Alpha Xi Delta-The colors of Alpha Xi Delta are double blue (light and dark) and gold. Sigma Kappa- They aren't very nice to us on our campus, but their motto is "One Heart, One Way" Sigma Sigma Sigma-Their symbol is the Sailboat Theta Phi Alpha - Their symbol is the compass Zeta Tau Alpha-The five-pointed Crown is an official symbol of the Fraternity. The significance of the five points is revealed to each member upon her Initiation. Many examples of crown artwork can be found within ZTA, and all are acceptable as long as the crown contains exactly five points. |
Ok...this took me all weekend to do, but it was so much fun!! I learned so many new things about all the NPC sororities that I would have never known if I hadn't done it. Thanks for starting this thread Dani!!
Alpha Chi Omega- Music is my passion and I love that you guys were founded at a School of Music and have all this musical meaning behind your beginning. Also, the meaning of the Alpha Chi Omega for the beginning and the end is cool too. Alpha Delta Pi- My husband has been working for McDonalds for ten years and I know through experience that there is no better way to give of yourself then through Ronald McDonalds Charities. That is an awesome philanthropy. Alpha Epsilon Phi- I absolutely love your motto: Many Hearts, One Purpose and I am partial to the green and white colors. ;) Alpha Gamma Delta- At school AGD was such a close knit group of girls that were always proud to wear their letters and always stuck together, they had a great sisterhood. Alpha Omicron Pi- One of my best friends and matron of honor at my wedding was an AOPi. She is an amazing woman and so were all her sisters that I met. Alpha Phi- My rho chi was an Alpha Phi and she was a wonderful person with a great heart. Alpha Sigma Alpha- I had many friends in college that were ASA. They were our next door neighbors at EIU and they were such a great group of girls! Alpha Sigma Tau- Every AST that I have met has had such a positive attitude about their sisters and their sorority. Alpha Xi Delta- I love you pin…it is so beautiful! Plus, you were founded in Galesburg, IL and you can’t go wrong with that. ;) Chi Omega- I never knew your sororities nationals was down the street from KD, that’s so cool!! Also, my favorite color is red! Delta Delta Delta- It is cool that the pine tree was one of your symbols (you learn something new everyday) and I love the meaning behind it representing growth and lofty aspirations. Delta Gamma- I never knew how many famous actresses were DG’s. I absolutely love Patricia Heaton and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Delta Phi Epsilon- I love your Pearl Program…it fosters a great sense of what your college sorority experience is suppose to be about!! Delta Zeta- They were a great group of girls on our campus and I love the combination of their colors – green and pink! Gamma Phi Beta- I love your new philanthropy, Camp Fire USA! Dealing with children everyday I know that it is a great organization to give your time to. Kappa Alpha Theta- I have a friend who donates her time to CASA and she tells me all the wonderful things that organization does for kids. I think it awesome that you give your time and philanthropic donations to such a great organization. Kappa Delta- Well, I am a little biased on this one. I met two of my best friends by joining KD and I wouldn’t change that for the world. There are so many other things that I love, but I won’t keep going on and on. Kappa Kappa Gamma- I love your pin! It is so beautiful and different! Phi Mu- I love your creed! It is so neat how it is laid out and it encompasses all the important things that should be in a sisterhood. Phi Sigma Sigma- I think it is neat that you guys have a sorority stone and the Sapphire is so beautiful. Is there another sorority that has a stone as one of their symbols? Pi Beta Phi- As a teacher Literacy is so important to me. I think it is awesome that your philanthropy deals with helping literacy programs. Sigma Delta Tau- I never knew that SDT and KD had one of the same philanthropies. I think it is such a worth wild cause to give of yourself to!! Sigma Kappa- My sister-in-law is a Sig Kap and I hope that I am as great of a mother as she is when I have kids!! Sigma Sigma Sigma- One of my close friends in college was a Tri-Sigma. She was a wonderful woman who was always there for me when I needed a shoulder to cry on. Theta Phi Alpha- Penguins have always been my favorite animal since I was little, so I love that you have the penguin as your mascot. I also think that your creed is so neat! Zeta Tau Alpha- I love the fact that ZTA and KD joined forces and created Stand Up! Stand Out! I think it is a great program that promotes friendship among women and between the two sororities. |
Though, like erica812, I'm not a NPC girl, but I do know a bit about the organizations and thought I'd try my hand at this.
Alpha Chi Omega: I like the musical heritage and the symbolism of the lyre. Alpha Delta Pi: Violets are my favorite flower! They remind me of my mother and home. Alpha Epsilon Phi: their house at Tulane is near where I live. Great girls there. Alpha Gamma Delta: Squirrels are so cute! Alpha Omicron Pi: another great organization! They've always been warm and friendly to me, and I have a great friend who is an AOII. Alpha Phi: I've "met" some great girls here on Greek Chat who belong to Alpha Phi. Their motto, "Union Hand in Hand" is quite touching, and it also helps that they have the same letters as my online BSP chapter! Alpha Sigma Alpha: "Aspire, Seek, Attain" is a motto I live by every day. Alpha Sigma Tau: I know another great girl who is an AST. Alpha Xi Delta: Like erica812, I'm also a writer, and the quill is an implement I hold dear to my heart. The pen is indeed mightier than the sword. Chi Omega: My mother wanted to be a XO when she was in college, but she didn't get the chance. :( The chapter at LSU is awesome. :) Delta Delta Delta: there's something to be said about Tri-Delta. Just the name makes me smile. Delta Gamma: I love how all their houses have anchors in front of them. The anchor is another great symbol of sisterhood. Delta Phi Epsilon: Dedication, Pride, Excellence says it all! I also like that they were founded at a law school. Delta Zeta: I wanted to be a DZ in college but didn't have a chance since the chapter at now-ULL closed about 25 years ago when I was there. Their lamp is quite symbolic. Gamma Phi Beta: I'm very partial to their philanthropy, Camp Fire. I was in Camp Fire during my formative years, and feel a special pull toward Gamma Phi. Kappa Alpha Theta: I know another great girl who is a Theta. Besides, I like kites and their kite-shaped badge. Kappa Delta: I love everything about KD--the motto, the philanthropy, Girl Scouts, and their work toward prevention of child abuse. Our Miss Louisiana, Molly Causey, is a KD, and she's awesome! Kappa Kappa Gamma: Here's a vote for the fleur-de-lis! Being from Louisiana, I couldn't help but notice their symbol. Phi Mu: Their French motto, "Les Soeurs Fideles", is quite touching. I also like the quatrefoil. Another group of warm and friendly ladies. I know quite a few Phi Mus, and they've always been cordial toward me. Phi Sigma Sigma: Gotta love an organization whose symbol is the sphinx. Unique. Pi Beta Phi: My next door neighbor is one. I've also met some pageant women who belong to Pi Phi, and they're sweet and genuine. Sigma Delta Tau: I have something in common with SDT. Their symbol, like BSP's, is the torch, and I love how they've incorporated the torch in their badge. Sigma Kappa: A former Miss Louisiana is a Sigma Kappa, and we got to be close during her year. I've also "met" quite a few SKs through Greek Chat, and they're great! Another vote for violets. Sigma Sigma Sigma: Another name that makes me smile. I like the symbolism of the sailboat--looking forward. I like sailboats. Theta Phi Alpha: I appreciate this group's Catholic roots and the symbolism of the compass. Another unique group in my eyes. Zeta Tau Alpha: Phyllis George (Miss America 1971) is a ZTA, and I admire her very much. It's also quite appropriate for her that their symbol is a crownr |
Alpha Chi Omega- I like their musical history and their lyre badge. I like how inclusive they were in my campus.
Alpha Delta Pi- I like their colors (azure and white) and their lion mascot. Back when I rushed, ADPi were described as some of the prettiest girls in campus. Alpha Epsilon Phi- I like their motto "Multa corda, una causa". Alpha Gamma Delta- I like their philanthropy, since I do have various relatives with diabetes. Alpha Omicron Pi- I like how elegant their letters look. Pandas are cool. Alpha Phi- They share two letters with my GLO. And I know someone who was an Alpha Phi in college. Alpha Sigma Alpha- I like their Exemplars. Alpha Sigma Tau- I like how their motto encourages self-reliance. Alpha Xi Delta- I like their intellectual and scholarly focus, which is reflected in their motto "The pen is mightier than the sword". I like their Quill magazine. Chi Omega- For some reason, I really liked Chi O when I went through rush 10 years ago. I had heard various things about them- but they did not prevent me from liking it. Delta Delta Delta- I like their mascot- the dolphin. I love dolphins and other marine mammals. Delta Gamma- When the booklet about Rush first arrived to my house before my freshman year, the only name in it that stood out enough for me to remember was Delta Gamma. And their badge is gorgeous. Delta Phi Epsilon- One of its colors is purple, which is my favorite color. One of their philanthropies is anorexia nervosa, which I have witnessed a close relative go through. Delta Zeta- I like their mascot. Turtles are cute. Very original to have a reptile mascot. Gamma Phi Beta- I like how helpful and open they are about Alumnae Initiation. I like their website. I like their philanthropy and how many notable alumnae they have. I like the Hebrew letters on the badge. Kappa Alpha Theta- It has so many famous alumnae in so many fields. It had one of the highest GPAs at my undergrad school. Kappa Delta- I like their philanthropy: I was a Girl Scout myself for 5 years. I like their flower: the white rose. Kappa Kappa Gamma- one of my pledge brothers was a Kappa. Athena is one of two Greco-Roman goddesses I identify with the most. I like blue. Phi Mu- I like pink. I like the quatrefoil. I love their lion mascot. I knew many people who belonged to Phi Mu at my school. And I had a strange dream that the Phi Mu house in my school had jacuzzis and spas and an oasis inside it. Phi Sigma Sigma- If I remember correctly, at my school (before I enrolled) they had the local mascot of the penguin. One of my best friends just adores penguins. Pi Beta Phi- I think their original name of "I C Sorosis" is so cool. They had one of the most beautiful houses in my campus. Sigma Delta Tau- I like the Star of David in their crest. Sigma Kappa- I like the dove. My surname means dove. I like the colors. Their philanthropy is quite original as well as inclusive. I like their intellectual focus. At my campus they had the most honor students of any sorority. Their website is very informative and extremely well organized. Sigma Sigma Sigma- I like their colors: purple and white look lovely. I LOVE the doll collection: I'm a fellow doll collector myself. Theta Phi Alpha- I like their Catholic background, the helmet in the crest, and their philanthropy and patron. And I just found out they have the penguin mascot (but they were not at UF). EDIT- Theta Phi Alpha is now my home. I love my sisters SO MUCH!!!!!!! Zeta Tau Alpha- I really like their philanthropy. A close relative of mine is a breast cancer survivor, so I admire how much work they do to help the Susan G. Komen foundation. I was in a class with a girl who eventually became the president of Zeta at my school, and she was always very nice to me. I know more about some sororities than others because at my undergrad school there were only 16 of them. |
I love this thread
Alpha Chi Omega - I love their music roots, their support of victims of domestic violence, and the lyre pin is beautiful. Alpha Delta Pi - I love the fact that they were the first secret society for women, I love their colors, and their flower (the woodland violet) Alpha Epsilon Phi - I love their motto - Many hearts, one purpose, so similar to Sigma Kappa's One Heart, One Way, and I love their philanthropy- The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Aids Foundation. Alpha Gamma Delta - I love their vision - Inspire the Woman, Impact the World. Alpha Omicron Pi - I love that they support the arthritis foundation, I love their red rose, and I think their pin is beautiful. Alpha Phi - I love their their red dress pin to raise awareness of women's heart disease Alpha Sigma Alpha - I love their open motto - Aspire, Seek, Attain. Alpha Sigma Tau - A great open motto Active, Self-Reliant, Trustworthy Alpha Xi Delta - I love their quill, I love that they wrote the Panhellenic Creed, and their Choose Children Initiative Chi Omega - I love their colors (cardinal and straw)- they are similar to the colors of my university (Iowa State- cardinal and gold). I also love their support of the Make a Wish Foundation. Delta Delta Delta - I love their motto, and their symbols and how each one represents a different phase in a member's life. Delta Gamma - I love their motto - Do Good - so simple and elegant Delta Phi Epsilon - I love their motto - To be rather than seem to be, and their logo - dedication, pride and excellence Delta Zeta - I love the Lamp, and love their colors Gamma Phi Beta - I love their Badge, their colors, and their support of Camp Fire Girls Kappa Alpha Theta - Love the Kite shaped badge and their support of CASA. Kappa Delta - One of my best friends is a KD, I love their motto - Strive for that which is honorable, beautiful and highest. I also love their colors, and their support of the Girl Scouts. Kappa Kappa Gamma - I love the their colors, their Key badge is beautiful (especially the ones I have seen with sapphires and pearls). Phi Mu - I love the quatrefoil, so unique, and their mascot, Sir Fidel Phi Sigma Sigma - Great badge, and I love their motto - Aim High. Pi Beta Phi - One of my best friends is a Pi Phi. I think the arrow is cool, and their support of literacy is great. Sigma Delta Tau - I love their jewel - the Lapis lazuli, and their philanthropy of preventing child abuse. Sigma Kappa - I love everything about Sigma Kappa, and I am proud and so lucky to call this Sorority my home! Sigma Sigma Sigma - I love the sailboat, the fact that their badge is a triangle (just like Sigma Kappa) and the doll collection Theta Phi Alpha - Love the penguin - the symbol for friendship. Zeta Tau Alpha - I love that their philanthropy is the Susan G, Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, I love their badge, especially some of the more "blinged out" variations, and I love their crown. |
Alpha Chi Omega- During recruitment, I was initally drawn to AChiO because of their history in the college of music, and of course being a feminist, I like that they support victims of domestic violence. AChiO has one of the prettiest badges in the NPC!
Alpha Delta Pi- ADPi is very cool. I like that their letters represent each phase of membership (Alpha=NM, represents the beginning; Delta=collegiate, represents change; Pi=alumna, the number pi goes on forever). I wonder if that was intentional or accidental, since their original greek letters where Alpha Delta Phi, whichI presume came from the word "Adelphean." I like that they have "prides." One of my good friends is an ADPi at her school, and the ADPis at my school are very down-to-earth. I prefed here. Alpha Epsilon Phi- Ruth Bader Ginsburg is an AEPhi, and I love to see women in power! Alpha Gamma Delta- I like the "stoplight" letters that some chapters wear. Alpha Omicron Pi- Lots of girls from my HS are AOPis at my school. Alpha Phi- I like their Red Dress campaign. After all, heart disease is the number one killer of women! Alpha Sigma Alpha-I like that everything is in twos or fours. Four exemplars, four colors, four points on the badge, four aims, two jewels (for NMs and initiated members), two flowers (fall and spring). Alpha Sigma Tau- I found out that one of my favorite English teachers from high school is an AST. Alpha Xi Delta- We don't have AXiD at my school anymore, BUT they still own their house. They actually let female transfer students live there. I hope they come back in the near future! 3 women in my SK fam are AXiD legacies; sometimes we joke that we're the AXiD legacy fam. Chi Omega- After 8th grade, I met this girl at summer camp named Allyson, who looks EXACTLY like my friend Celia from home. I keep in touch with both of them (they go to different schools and have never met), but I thought it was funny that they both joined ChiO. Delta Delta Delta- Yeah for New England-founded sororities, especially BU! I like that TriDelt's founders wanted to create a society that would focus on a woman's character instead of outward appearance. Their badge is also very pretty. Delta Gamma- I prefed here. The DGs at my school are very diverse and chill. I liked their preference ceremony with the orchid leis, and I gather that a lot of DG chapters do that. I also like the anchor/nautical theme that they have going. Whenever they have grilled cheese sales, they make at least $500 for their philanthropy each time they have a sale, and rightfully so, because they make the best damned grilled cheese in town. Delta Phi Epsilon- Esse quam videri- To be rather than seem to be. Can't get much more real than that. Delta Zeta- Pretty colors! Gamma Phi Beta- They were founded nationally 2 days after my sorority was founded nationally. Kappa Alpha Theta- Theta has some really awesome alumnae, and my faves are Dian Fossey (Gorillas in the Mist) and Sheryl Crow. I like their colors, since I am a Steelers fan, and their badge is GORGEOUS! Kappa Delta- This was my first real exposure to sororities. One of my best friends from high school told me at the beginning of freshman year (in college) that she pledged KD. Of course I had no idea what she meant, but she told me all about it, and sparked my interest. I like the dagger on their badge, and the fact that they work closely with the Girl Scouts (Can't start recruiting too early...why not tap into the largest organization for women in the nation?). Kappa Kappa Gamma- I know several Kappas personally even though we don't have them at my school. Phi Mu- Phi Mu has pretty colors and the quatrefoil is pretty and unique. Phi Sigma Sigma- The American Beauty Rose. It makes me think of the best movie ever made. Pi Beta Phi- Jennifer Garner! I also like the colors and arrow badge, esp the one with garnets and aquamarine! Sigma Delta Tau- Their jewel is very unique--lapis lazuli. Sigma Kappa- I must say I am a bit partial, because this is my sorority! So obviously, I love everything about it. Fun fact for the non-SKs out there though--Sarah Weddington aka "Jane Roe's" attorney in Roe v. Wade, a Sigma Kappa, was the youngest woman to argue and win a supreme court case! Regardless of your stance on abortion, that is something to be proud of. Sigma Sigma Sigma- I think it's interesting that a lot of their symbols are the same as us (Sigma Kappa), and similar colors. Triangle badge, pearl, violet, shades of purple, Triangle magazine...it makes me wonder if by some strange coincedence their ritual is similar to ours. I love the skull on the badge. Very Pirates. I could see the box being ful of TriSigma badges in stead of gold coins. Theta Phi Alpha- Penguins are AWESOME, and my little's friend from HS is a Theta Phi. Zeta Tau Alpha- One thing that I think is cute about Zeta is that they refer to COR events as "crown" events. Crown chair, crown event, we crowned a girl during informal recruitment, etc. Also, I saw one of their badges, the one in WG with pink sapphires...wow! Also, two Zetas that I met during my first semester influenced me to go through recruitment. Turquoise is one of my favorite colors. |
*bumping* because this is an awesome thread
|
Alpha Chi Omega- I love their philanthropy for victims of domestic violence. I also remember when I attended University of North Florida and I saw the AXO girls. I thought they were just awesome and had this sisterhood that I just loved.
Alpha Delta Pi- First. Finest. Forever!!!! Yay!! What can I say? I love them. Alpha Epsilon Phi- How could you not like a sorority represented by a giraffe? Alpha Gamma Delta- The colors are so fun. It reminds me of being a kid. Alpha Omicron Pi- I was just looking at the website and I learned something. I did not know that one of the symbols was the wheat. I like the connection that it has to the new member pin being the sheaf. That is cool. Alpha Phi- I like one of your flowers, the lily of the valley. It is so pretty. Alpha Sigma Alpha- I like that the org abides by the ideals of Christ, Saint Valentine, Hermes, and King Asa. I wonder if Asa has anything to do with the naming of the sorority... Alpha Sigma Tau- I like that they have different pins for women who have been members for 25 and 50 years. Alpha Xi Delta- I love teddy bears! Chi Omega- Your colors are awesome. And I love everything about the sorority. There is so much history and ideals that fascinate me. Delta Delta Delta- I like the initiated member pin. Delta Gamma- I love the colors and the cream colored rose. Delta Phi Epsilon- The open motto: To be rather than seem to be. Delta Zeta- The turtle is so cute!! Gamma Phi Beta- I think it is cool that GPhiB was the first to use the word 'sorority'. Kappa Alpha Theta- Theta is one of my favorite sororities. And you get Sheryl Crow as a famous member! Kappa Delta- I think that the open motto: "Let us strive for that which is honorable, beautiful, and highest." is beautiful. Kappa Kappa Gamma- When I think of Kappas, I think of class. And the colors are awesome. Phi Mu- I love the creed and believe that it should represent all women. Phi Sigma Sigma- I was looking at the symbols and I noticed a somewhat Eqyptian theme. That is cool. Pi Beta Phi- Thank goodness there was no chapter at my school. It may have given a very hard decision to make. I know I ended up where I was meant to be, but I sure do love those Pi Beta Phis! Sigma Delta Tau- Your website is stunning! Sigma Kappa- Lavender is my favorite color! Sigma Sigma Sigma- I know other sororities have the skull and crossbones symbol, but for Tri Sigma, I like that it goes with their open motto "Faithful Unto Death". Theta Phi Alpha- The badge is beautiful. Zeta Tau Alpha- The whole sorority is beautiful. It has the princess feel...obviously having to do with the the five pointed crown. I just like Zeta girls. They are really proud of their sorority. |
ΑΧΩ-I love the badge. It's very, very unique.
ΑΔΠ-I know ADPi's and personally I think they set a great example for others to follow as far as sisterhood goes. They seem to really be close to each other and appreciate each other. I think they really exemplify their motto: "We live for each other." ΑΕΦ-I think the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS foundation is extremely relevant today since AIDS has become a world epidemic. It's also cool that the foundation was started by a sister who turned her personal tragedy into a way to help the entire world. AΓΔ-Well, I'm obviously prejudiced. I love my girls, I love that we're the squirrels (even if it's hard to find stuffed squirrels or squirrel jewelry), and I think we are pretty diverse. We were also the first to adopt a philanthropy, the first to have a non-caucasian initiate, and have the widest span of chapters. And we have a chapter in Hawaii! She's yours, she's mine, she's an Alpha Gam girl! ΑΟΠ-Four of my favorite people are AOPi's, including my cousin. They're all really awesome girls, so I think that reflects on the sorority. I also love the pandas. They're so cute. AΦ-I love their creed. It starts with "I believe in my fraternity", and I think that's essential to any good sisterhood. AΣΑ-(I know that isn't gold, but it's the closest there is here.) I like the idea of the four exemplars. It just seems like a really good idea and a good way to pick role models to strive to be like. ΑΣΤ-Habitat for Humanity is such a great philanthropy, and I bet this means they have to go out and get their hands dirty sometimes. It's a really rewarding way to help someone in need. ΑΞΔ-I know it's corny, but I'm in love with their colors. I also love "The Pen is Mightier than the Sword". ΧΩ-I know Chi O has a great national reputation. They're really great girls on our campus, and that's who I preffed. I think they have a good amount of diversity here, and they just really seem to always present themselves in the best possible way, which is really admirable. ΔΔΔ-I hope that's the right kind of blue! It's one of the coolest badges I've seen. Top five. I also love the dolphin...it's one of my favorite animals. ΔΓ-I like the anchor...it's a strong symbol, I think. I also think it's seriously cool that they actually have their own kind of flower. ΔΦΣ-That's the colors of my school...cool! And I have to say I looooovvveeee the unicorn mascot! ΔΖ-I really like that their creed is addressed "To the world...". It's nice to have people bond in the common purpose of making the world a better place. ΓΦΒ-Did you know the Doublement twins were Gamma Phi Beta's? That's awesome! ΚΑΘ-Gotta love the kite! And the first women admitted to Phi Beta Kappa were Thetas. ΚΔ-Well, my mom, aunts, cousin, and I think a grand-aunt are KD's, so I like them, obviously. I'm a little prejudiced to liking them! ΚΚΓ-The first to set up women's service centers. They also have the key as their badge, which is really cool. ΦΜ-The Phi Mus I know are very dedicated to their organization, which I think reflects on Phi Mu as a whole. ΦΣΣ-The sphinx is a really awesome mascot. They were the only sorority without ritual based in scripture when they began. ΠΒΦ-I think it's cool that they own the property where they began, the Holt House. That's an priceless part of their history that their members can enjoy in the future. ΣΔΤ-I like that they were begun in response to "closed doors" with the intention to run an organization more respectful of individuality. ΣΚ-The study of aging and being involved with Alzheimer's disease is really impressive and unique. ΣΣΣ-The sailboat and the skull and cross bones on the badge are very unique and cool. The doll collection is also really, really cool and is a great way to record history. ΘΦΑ-The compass is a great symbol for many reasons...and penguins. You HAVE to love penguins. ΖΤΑ-The crown is a great symbol, and the badge is gorgeous. Breast cancer is also a great disease to fight because it is so prevelant, especially among women. I didn't realize the "think pink" slogan I'd seen was actually registered to ZTA! I love this thread by the way! I learned a lot about all these sororities...things I definitely never knew before. |
since a couple of people have asked about it
For those who are wondering what Gamma Phi's color "mode" is, it's light brown. I've been told that technically "mode" is any lighter shade of a true color, but I don't know if that's correct. Anyway, basically our formal colors are dark and light brown, with pink added as an informal color. The brown colors come from a professor at Syracuse (Dr. Brown) who let Gamma Phi use his study for their first meetings.

Alpha Gam's Squirrel
The Alpha Gam squirrel does have a name. It's Skiouros, which is the Greek word for Squirrel. Here is a brief description of Skiouros:
"In the days when Gamma (Wesleyan Univ - Middletown CT) first made the triple colors of red, buff, and green her own, some of her energetic number sought a mascot to symbolize the characteristics of the colors and progress of Alpha Gamma Delta. In the autumn tints, so beautifully dear to us in our song of that name, they received the suggestion, and the little squirrel, typical frequenter of autumn haunts, was chosen as the mascot...Our little friend, we find is also nimble and agile - he leaps from branch to branch and accomplishes much progress...to symbolize the spirit that never dies, the spirit of energetic alertness and progress." Unfortunately, Gamma Chapter is now inactive..but you never know when a Gamma squirrel will pop up again!:) |

That's really cool though...and I have to say I love the combination of pink and brown. |

[Alpha Chi Omega -
I absolutly love the lyre. I love that they are involved with domestic violence. Alpha Delta Pi - My classy grandmom was a ADP at Kansas. I heard her talking about how she majored in sigma nu. Ok, I know the point of this is to write about all the sororities, but I should be studying for finals/the GRE so I am going to write about the 4 NPCs at my school:
ADPi- Some of the sweetest girls on campus. I've gotten to know some of them really well and I love the things they do for each other and the community. AEPhi- Well duh! :) GPhiB- Our chapters have been historically close on campus and I LOVE the older girls so much!!! Tri Delta- These girls are ALWAYS raising money for St Judes. It is amazing how much they care about their philanthropy. |
Wow, this took a long time, but it was fun :-). I enjoyed looking around on the websites of those I didn't know much about.
Alpha Chi Omega--As a music major, I love their musical background. Alpha Delta Pi--"We live for each other." What incredible sisterhood! Alpha Epsilon Phi--giraffes! how cute--love the mascot. Alpha Gamma Delta--One of my best friends is AGD! I know at her campus, they have the highest GPA. Also, squirrels are cute. Alpha Omicron Pi--I am proud to be AOII. Alpha Phi--love the flowers and the ivy leaf Alpha Sigma Alpha--the website is really pretty Alpha Sigma Tau--their national hq is where I go to school. I wonder why we don't have a chapter? Love the anchors and colors. Alpha Xi Delta--one of my bffs is an Alpha Xi--yay! Chi Omega--I think it's a funny story how the founders chose the letters for their organization--probably the same way I would had I founded my own sorority! They just cut out a bunch and put them together to see which would look the best together (I hope this is accurate, I remember reading it somewhere). The X and a horseshoe look quite nice together, I think :-). Delta Delta Delta--their house at Bama is the most interesting one I've ever seen. I know a lot of really sweet tridelts, one of my very best friends included.g Delta Gamma--lovely badge. Also, Eva Marie Saint was a DG. Eva Marie Saint was in "North by Northwest". N by NW also contains Cary Grant. I approve. Delta Phi Epsilon--Only sorority founded at a professional school, so they are unique. Delta Zeta--pink and green!! Gamma Phi Beta--One of my friends is a Gamma Phi at UA and she is an amazing girl! Kappa Alpha Theta--Dian Fossey, Agnes DeMille, Rue McClanahan, Laura Bush, Ida Tarbell and Amy Grant were all Thetas. That's a pretty diverse group of famous alums--and there are many more. I also love the kite! Kappa Delta--Pearl S. Buck and Georgia O'Keeffe were both KD--a talented bunch :-). Kappa Kappa Gamma -- Had I chosen to go to my other first choice school, I would have loved to be a Kappa (we don't have Kappa at my campus, and they don't have AOII). The Kappa girls I know are wonderful! I also love their pin. Phi Mu--I preffed Phi Mu. Their creed, which was read to us during the pref ceremony, is beautiful and true. Phi Sigma Sigma--first non-sectarian sorority. Pi Beta Phi--Every Pi Phi chapter I've ever heard of has a good reputation--whether it's for being smart, pretty or all-around great. Two girls I knew in high school went Pi Phi--and they are two amazing girls. Sigma Delta Tau--ooh, I love their jewel. Lapis Lazuli--so pretty and so fun to say! Sigma Kappa--my mom was a Sigma Kappa. As a little girl, that's what I wanted to be--I would read my mom's alumna magazine and pretend I was in a sorority (unfortunately my campus doesn't have Sigma Kappa). "One heart, one way"--love the motto. Sigma Sigma Sigma--I think it's pretty cool how each initiate gets a copy of their history. Theta Phi Alpha--Don't know much about them, but they have a lovely badge. I love penguins, too. What a cute mascot! Zeta Tau Alpha--I love the crowns and strawberries and their open motto. I know plenty of awesome Zetas, including my lesson teacher (I'm a music major :-D) |

So...I wrote out my entire list and GC lost it! AHHHHHH! Here goes.
Alpha Gamma Delta- You guys have an easily accessible full list of chapters, active and inactive, that I really appreciated while researching the NPC Eta chapters. I really think we should not try to hide our inactive chapters. We need to remember that these chapters served our sisters and spread our messages while they survived! Alpha Delta Pi- I love the Adelphian tradition. They are a great start to a long greek history! Alpha Epsilon Phi- Since this was the only chapter other than AOII to begin at Barnard college, I have to love this group! I also appreciate the Jewish tradition which is mirrored in AOII since our most influential founder, Stella, was a strong Jewish woman! Alpha Xi Delta- I really love your new website. I plan on playing a little more later!! I also like the Unitarian tradition of your group which is unique in the NPC. Alpha Omicron Pi- What can I say? This organization has made me a better citizen, a better sister (to my bio sisters and AOII sisters), a better friend, a better wife, a better doctor and a better person in general. I'm really excited to be involved as an alumna so I can use my talents and skills to give back to a group that has given me so much! Alpha Sigma Alpha- Women of poise and purpose...I love this description! Alpha Sigma Tau- I love your open motto- Active, Self Relient, Trustworthy. Isn't that what all people should be? Alpha Phi- I really like the lazy phi badge... so beautiful and distinctive. Alpha Chi Omega- I love how intricate your badge is with the tiny twisted gold lyre strings! Gamma Phi Beta- I am intriugued by the Hebrew letters on your badge! I'd love to know what it means...alas, I shall never know!! Delta Gamma- I enjoy the minutes posted on your website from the first meetings of Delta Gamma. Your founders were so academic! These are a really sweet reminder of the kind of women who started your sorority. Delta Delta Delta- Wow! $10 million over 10 years for a new patient ward at St. Jude's! That's putting your money where your mouth is! Keep up the great work!! Delta Zeta- I love your creed. I hope I live up to those ideals even though I'm not a DZ! Delta Phi Epsilon- To be rather than to seem to be...in other words, "Don't be fake!" Love it! Zeta Tau Alpha- my aunt is a Zeta. Of all of the NPC badges, I love yours the best. I love the delicate shape. It is very unique. Also, who doesn't want to wear a crown? Theta Phi Alpha- I really want to see your president's badge. Diamond encrusted Theta (for national pres) or Sapphire encrusted Theta (for chapter pres) set on a wreath sounds beautiful! Does anyone have a pic? Kappa Alpha Theta- My cousin's a Theta. After 17 years, she is still very active with her collegiate chapter. If she loves Theta that much, you have to be a wonderful group! Kappa Delta- K-A-P-P-A, Kappa, K-A-P-P-P-A! D-E-L-T-A, Delta, D-E-L-T-A! We are the Kappa Deltas! We are the ones for you! We are the Kappa Deltas! Don't you wanna be a KD too? Don't you wanna be a KD too? I haven't gotten that chant out of my head in 15 years! I also really like the stars next to the K on your official logo! Kappa Kappa Gamma- I love the fleur de lis which is a symbol of my home, Louisiana. Even though I now live in Baltimore, I have fleur de lis silverware, a fleur de lis wall plaque and as soon as I can get my decorator back over to my house, I'll have an etching on the glass over my front door. Pi Beta Phi- I love your crest...it is unique, and I like that you guys frequently use it as a pin guard rather than a chapter guard. Sigma Delta Tau- Prevention of child abuse is such a worthy cause. I hope you continue to have success with your philanthropy. Sigma Kappa- I like to think about Colby college with three Sigma K chapters competing! I know, I know, they basically all went to meetings together, but I like the idea anyway! Sigma Sigma Sigma- Essential Sigma seems like such a great program on paper. I hope it works even better in practice. I hope we all continue to provide education for our members through out their lives. Phi Mu- I love the Philomathean name and tradition. I will always remember the Phi Mu "Ladies" on my campus. They lived up to the name! Phi Sigma Sigma- "The brotherhood of man and the alleviation of the world's pain." Leave it to women to come up with such noble ideals! Chi Omega- I really enjoy the stories of your sassy founders who wanted secrets like the fraternity men flaunted in front of them. Good for them to start their own secret society! |

Alpha Chi Omega - I like the meaning of Alpha Chi Omega (first and last). The lyre is unique as well.
Alpha Delta Pi - I have two amazing childhood friends who are ADPi's, so I'm obviously a fan. I also love how they do the diamond thing in all of their pictures. Alpha Epsilon Phi - The open motto: Many Hearts, One Purpose. It's really nice. Alpha Gamma Delta - The squirrel is an adorable mascot! Alpha Omicron Pi - I like that their chapters are based on "sub-mottoes". (I read that on wikipedia) Alpha Phi - Alpha Phi has always seemed so classy to me. I also really like the ivy. Alpha Sigma Alpha - I like the phoenix. Alpha Sigma Tau - Emerald green and gold are really pretty together. Alpha Xi Delta - Having been a charter member of a different GLO, I really like that they have a different pin for Colony NMs. They are a different breed than NMs of an existing chapter! (I mean that in the most endearing way possible.) Chi Omega - I think Chi-O is a really cute nickname. I also like their mascot (the owl). Delta Delta Delta - Their pin is really pretty. I also just like the name. Delta Gamma - I know some really sweet girls who are DGs. I like the anchor as well. Delta Phi Epsilon - "To be rather than to seem to be" is an awesome open motto. Delta Zeta - Pink and green are really cute together. Gamma Phi Beta - Gamma Phi is the other NPC on my campus, and I know some really great girls in this org. I admire their chapter at my school. Kappa Alpha Theta - Theta presented to us when we became national, and I was very impressed by their organization. They exemplified class in so many ways, and I liked their programs and values. Kappa Delta - Pearl Buck and Georgia O-Keefe are KD's! Kappa Kappa Gamma - I can't even begin to say how much I love Kappa. I have met so many amazing women and had so many great experiences in the short time that I've been a Kappa. I know I have many more great Kappa-filled years to come. "Oh the owl, the key, the fleur-de-lis, the blue and blue, well, that's for me! Rah, rah for KKG!" Phi Mu - I really like their coat of arms and the French quote at the bottom of it. It says "the faithful sisters". Phi Sigma Sigma - I think their official hymn is in German. That's so cool! I think most college students studied Greek and Latin back then, so this is super unique. Pi Beta Phi - Their letters are aesthetically pleasing. I also like the arrow. Oh, and Monmouth Duo! Sigma Delta Tau - Their torch pin is really pretty. Sigma Kappa - Their 25-year pin is gorgeous! Sigma Sigma Sigma - I like the 3 sigmas. The concept of their doll collection is adorable! When a chapter is installed, they dress a doll in the fashion of that year. They have 160 dolls. Theta Phi Alpha - Penguins are my favorite animals! Zeta Tau Alpha - The crowns are super cute! |
