Sounds like everyone had some really creative themes!
Good luck with your wait!! Can't wait to hear what happens.

DizzyDZ 09-16-2003 09:28 PM

Themes

Sounds like lots of fun themes, I can't wait to hear about all the rest of the parties!

What is chapter total at U of M? Are all the houses about the same size? Sorry-- I have so many questions!

You find out tomorrow what your schedule is for second round, right? You better let us know as soon as you get it-- we'll all be waiting.

Keep having fun, that's the best advice you can get :-)

AGDee 09-16-2003 09:52 PM

Chapter Total at the U of Mich is 120. There are a variety of sizes of chapters though. They ranged in size (before Recruitment) from 37 to 100. The average size is 80 right now. Last year, 735 registered for FR, but only 533 women matched. I don't know how many dropped out and how many were cut.

That's Huge!

Whoah! 100 girls before recruitment? That's huge-- I don't get how there can even be sisterhood with sororities that large... Seems to me like you wouldn't really get to know everyone nearly as well in those big houses as you would if you joined one of the smaller ones where sisterhood is probably key. Then again, everyone joins a sorority for different reasons! I guess you should just keep in mind that just because a house is bigger, doesn't necessarily mean it is better.

So a question from that....what is the biggest chapter total that some of you have heard of? at Michigan the chapter totals have a ceiling of 120.

Lisa, can't wait to hear from ya!

ZTAngel 09-17-2003 06:21 PM

Some of UCF's chapters have about 180 to 200 girls.

BaylorBean 09-17-2003 06:58 PM

At Truman state ours are at like 108, but we have been trying to get it lowered for years due to declining rush numbers.
At SLU I think total is at or above 150 but that was a few years ago I heard that.

pinklady23 09-17-2003 07:03 PM

OK so here's the schedule:
Thursday
White- im ok with that
Silver- also ok
Green- yay!
Indigo- also ok

Friday (my favorite day)
Blue- OH MY GOD YAY TIMES 10!!!
Pink- Ditto above!!
Yellow- thrilled again
Orange- very happy considering i though id be cut here
Gray- not thrilled i have to go back here
Red- also a shocker that i got asked back but still very excited

I think i might just wear jeans and a cute shirt for thursday as i dont have as much invested in that day, and wear some sort of skirt and top on friday as i plan to wow 'em!

ill post tomorrow night after the parties

KappaKittyCat 09-17-2003 07:30 PM

Congratulations on getting bunches of great colors to go back to! It sounds like you're going to have a great time.

I don't know what suggested attire is for Second Set, but I encourage you to go into both days planning, as you put it, to "wow 'em." How many rush threads have we seen on here where a PNM was leukwarm about a house after First Set and wound up being a gung-ho NM of that very same house at the end of the week? You never know what could happen. I'd advise you not to write anyone off just yet.

That said, have an THRILLING Thursday and a FABULOUS Friday! Good luck!

mmcat 09-17-2003 08:12 PM

have a blast...
enjoy the ride and see where it all shakes out.

SparkliiQTMTSU 09-17-2003 09:04 PM

Wow looks like youre going to have an exciting weekend :) Have fun and be yourself :) GOOD LUCK!!

Nichole

DizzyDZ 09-17-2003 09:08 PM

I second kappa kitty cat's advice... you may think right now that one of your thursday houses is only "okay" but who knows-- you might be their favorite girl, and they might become your favorite house!

I know when I went through recruitment, the houses I originally thought were the ones for me most certainly turned out not to be-- and I'm completely happy with where I ended up (which after mixers I had originally written off this house as not being "cool" enough for me but in the end these are the girls that seemed the most read to me, and it is the place I feel at home)

So make sure you are looking at houses for the right reasons... Find girls that you can be goofy with and not feel like you have to censor your thoughts... Find girls that you can cry with and not feel like you have to be alone.... Find girls that you will hold onto forever, not just during your college years. Find the girls that will be your true friends-- not just a popularity boost because of the name of the house or who they party with.

BaylorBean 09-17-2003 10:04 PM

Ditto what DizzyDZ and KappaKittyCat said!

pinklady23 09-18-2003 12:15 AM

For those of you who wanted to know which houses i cut/got cut from:
Teal: A E Phi
Brown: D Phi E
Purple: Theta
Black: Kappa
Gold: SDT

I didn't mean to be snotty about what i posted earlier, I definitely plan on giving all the houses a chance, i'm just more excited about some than others. That said, i wont deny that there are some i would never join and would rather be non-greek. I think everyone should know their limits, situations and atmospheres in which they fit, and shouldnt try to be something they aren't, and thats how i feel about a few of the houses i got back. Anyway, my plan is to, as my mom always say, kill 'em with kindness and hope for the best.

Atta girl!! Good luck both Thursday & Friday nights!!

Designergal3 09-18-2003 12:59 AM

2nd sets is pretty casual still so Jeans and cute top sounds fine to me. I feel like at UM its always better to be a little too dressed up than underdressed.

And I understand your point of view. there is no sense in joining a house you absolutely wouldn't want to be a part of jsut to be greek. But for those houses that aren't necessarily your favs, you might end up loving them if thats where you get a bid from. One of my house's best sophomores was a bit upset coz she didn't get her top choice and now she's one of the reasons why my chapter is amazing. this is a girl that ALOT of houses wanted too. So see what happens. When you join any house, you'll be happy to have been a part of it if you can graduate and have at least 5 best friends who're there for you always.

JohnsDGsweethrt 09-18-2003 03:08 AM

Congrads on so many invites Pinklady! What wonderful news!

deadbear80 09-18-2003 05:40 AM

Hey pinklady! Good luck! It's great to see that DG's still in the running. My friend's mom was a DG at U of M a long time ago. And I'm the product of 2 Greek alums from U of M! My Mom was President of AEPhi there (I don't hold it against you for dropping them, I have NO clue what their chapter's like now:) ) and my dad was a ZBT. Plus, a former roommate of mine (post-college) was an Alpha Phi there--so I guess I know a lot about the U of M system!
When I was in high school, I stayed at the Sigma Kappa house for a couple nights when I was visiting U of M. What a beautiful place! It's the furthest from campus, I know. My mom says it was the DPhiE house when she was there; I guess there was house switching going on at various points there.
Anyways, good luck...and GO BLUE!

tri-d 09-18-2003 08:47 AM

Good Luck on second sets--seems like you have some great houses left to choose from. I am keeping my fingers crossed that all your favorite colors stay in the mix!

Kristin AGD 09-18-2003 10:28 AM

Congrats on all of your invites and Good Luck in the next sets!!! :D

PS. I would dress to impress both days, you never know who will see you on campus. But out of two WOW outfits wear the one that makes you feel the most confident on Friday. ;)

shadokat 09-18-2003 12:51 PM

Best of luck at round 2!

UMgirl 09-18-2003 01:50 PM

Definately dress to impress on both days. And as everyone else has said give every house a chance. Every house has its Ups and Downs, geeks, partiers, trouble makers etc. In all honesty sorority life is what You yourself make of it. I've known girls who have been in the "big popular houses" and they didnt think it was too great. I've known some who loved it also, just like I have known girls from the smaller "less popular houses" who loved it, but some who ended up not to crazy about it. Keep being open minded and don't let campus reputations possibly cloud your judement. Big thing to remember the Active members are just as nervous, if not maybe more then you are. They have to impress you too. Have fun and hope you get whatever house you want! :D

absolutuscchick 09-18-2003 04:22 PM

Have fun!!!!

DizzyDZ 09-18-2003 05:40 PM

Have an awesome time tonight :-)

We're all waiting to hear how the parties tonight go.

gphiangel624 09-18-2003 07:10 PM

Good luck and have fun!

pinklady23 09-19-2003 12:51 AM

Tonight was the first day of second sets (house tours) i went to:

White: again my legacy house, i was surprised by how nice the inside of the house actually was, their mini-skit was kind of cute, i dont love the house, i dont dislike it, its in the neutral zone

Silver: i wasn't sure about this house going in and am still unsure about it, but the inside of their house is really nice, all the rooms have really cool wallpaper, haha, their sisterhood seems to be fairly strong

Green: still realllllly like this house, we didn't get to see as many of the individual rooms as in other houses and spent more time talking, their skit was really good, kept me laughing

Indigo: another house in the neutral zone, by far the most relaxed house of the evening, the girls were pretty straightforward this is who we are, this is what we do, etc

Tomorrow is the final 6 houses of second sets and I'm excited for that. This time next week is bid day, and hopefully i will be out celebrating with my new sisters (knock on wood)

SigKapSundevil 09-19-2003 01:35 AM

I am originally from Michigan although I've lived in a few places, and my boyfriend has lived there all his life, so I was so excited when I found your thread tonight!! You have a great attitude! Good luck and enjoy yourself, I'm crossing my fingers for you!
:D :D

mmcat 09-19-2003 07:12 AM

enjoy the next round...
fingers crossed that this time next week, it's all wonderful.

ilovemyglo 09-19-2003 12:02 PM

Sounds like you had a good night-
looking forward to hearing more!
Sarah

astroAPhi 09-19-2003 10:09 PM

Good luck! It's so interesting to read about schools with so many organizations when you're from a small one!

absolutuscchick 09-19-2003 10:28 PM

I hope you're having fun tonight at the rest of the parties!!!

LeslieAGD 09-19-2003 11:48 PM

Good luck tomorrow! :)

DizzyDZ 09-20-2003 01:01 AM

Leslie, are you an AGD where Lisa is rushing? Your location is Michigan, so I just wasn't sure...

DizzyDZ 09-20-2003 10:11 AM

sorry

Leslie--
Sorry, I guess I shouldn't have asked you that on the public board because it might be uncomfortable for you or Lisa if in fact you are from the chapter that she's rushing. Sorry!!!

pinklady23 09-20-2003 10:24 AM

Last night i went to:
Blue: Still love this house, its my top choice, i had great conversation with the girls i talked to and their house is really nice and most importantly i just felt like i could call this house home
Pink: love this house as well, their skit was HILARIOUS, this girls are all so friendly and outgoing i love it
Yellow: another of my favorites, i felt like i had good conversation with all the girls, and was even rushed bya girl in my french class, the only downside to this house is the number of triples
Orange: this was one of the houses i didnt click with immediately at mixers but im liking it more as i go back. The girl and i had a little trouble keeping up a conversation but once we discovered we had the same major it went spinning off from there. beautiful house, but far from campus
Gray: the house i most didn't want to return to in second sets. Again it just seemed like everything was wrong, i didnt click with any of the girls, i just felt uncomfortable in this house, just very out of my element here
Red: well i wasnt sure about this house during mixers but now i really like it, i met some great girls and they were all just really sweet, their skit was also very funny

I get my invites to 3rd sets tonight at 6:30. we get to go to six parties, and im hoping that they are blue, pink, yellow, green, orange, and red. (im pretty sure i will be cut by at least 1 or 2 of them, thats just they way it works, but oh well!) I will let you know after 6:30 where im going on sunday!

DizzyDZ 09-20-2003 01:50 PM

Oh Lisa!! I am so happy to hear that you're still loving the houses that you're going back to and that round 2 conversation went so well! Too bad you aren't feeling the vibe from the girls at the gray house-- but thats okay, you have nine other awesome houses to choose from, I'm sure you'd be happy if you ended up at any of them. It seems like yesterday must have been a really long day-- six parties!! To be able to still come out feeling good about it after that many is definately awesome. I have my fingers crossed for you that your schedule for tomorrow is full of blue, pink, yellow, green orange and red! Best of luck :)

GPhiLlama 09-20-2003 02:31 PM

AGD had a New Orleans theme? That's kinda funny, cause the ADG frat just had Red Tide last night, and it's in Nawlins...heh...

Well, it's funny to me.

Sounds like your rush is going fantastic! Fingers crossed down here!

Aphigurl 09-20-2003 02:42 PM

Good Luck......I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed that you get the six invites your looking for!!

mmcat 09-20-2003 04:03 PM

sounds like it's been a great time so far.

my gut tells you it should be happy.
