Have a fabulous time at Kraemer!

xo_kathy 08-20-2003 09:37 AM

Pam - How was Kramer?! Do fill us in please!!!

RedFox 08-20-2003 11:41 AM

Classes started today, but I wanted to post to tell everyone about the parties! Well I went to Jerry, Elaine, and George on Monday and Kraemer yesterday. Out of the 4, Jerry and Kraemer are my two top, but this is just the first round!

In Jerry I had a lot of fun and I had a lot in common with the girl I talked to. The party went by too fast and I was sad to leave it. I definitely saw myself in that house. It was weird because people say that when they are in the house, they know..I felt it. it was weird, but again its only round 1.

In Elaine, I had fun as well in that house. The girls were more laid back and not AS talkative, but still interested and really excited to talk to me and the girl I was with. We also had a lot in common and the craft we did was really sweet, it felt like it lasted a little longer than Jerry but still went by rather quickly.

In George, the girls' chant was really catchy, I had it stuck in my head since it was the last party. They were a lot of fun and I asked a couple of the girls why they decided to rush that sorority and they said that they liked it becausethey were real and could be themselves. I definitely saw that. There was a lot of diversity in that house in terms of one group of people that I noticed, which was cool.

In Kraemer, I liked their set up of how they explained their philanthropy. I was excited when I learned about their creed and philanthropy because I had dealt with an experience that a friend of mine had with that particular situation. So I had something to talk to them about! :)

We'll see what happens today. I find out who and if I get invited back to any. My time is at 4:25 so we'll see!! Wish me luck! And good luck to the other PNMs!

DZHBrown 08-20-2003 11:45 AM

Good luck, Pam!

volgirl2376 08-20-2003 04:18 PM

30 more minutes :)

RedFox 08-20-2003 04:58 PM

News News News...I got cut by 2 but 2 kept me...Kraemer and George kept me and Jerry and Elaine cut me. I was upset about Jerry because I thought there was a connection. I didn't have as strong feelings about George, but they were above Elaine in terms of the girls that I bonded with at the parties. I am giving both a shot, tomorrow is skit night and I hope things go really well with George and Kraemer. Right now, my favorite is Kraemer and I hope they pref me!! But anyway..just wanted to post since you all wanted to know I'm sure. Talk to you all soon.

Tonight was Kraemer's skit night and OMG I feel like I totally belong in that house!!! I told them that too. I felt so comfortable and their skit was hilarious and looked like so much fun!! Tomorrow is George and we'll see how that goes as well but I hope Kraemer Pref's me !!!!!!!:D

TechAPhi 08-22-2003 02:21 AM

So glad to hear it! The nicknames you've given the houses certainly add to the delight I get in reading your thread. All the best to you!

JohnsDGsweethrt 08-22-2003 03:09 AM

Kraemer was always my fav character!

mmcat 08-22-2003 08:08 AM

now enjoy george...
fingers and toes crossed for you.

DZHBrown 08-22-2003 10:19 AM

Yay! I hope you have a great time at George, tonight, too. I'll be out of town for a couple of days and won't know what happening! Ack!!

RedFox 08-22-2003 10:28 PM

George~

I went to George tonight and their skit was really cute and they were also really down to earth and sweet girls...however I definitely felt more comfortable in Kraemer...I hope I dont get a 6am call saying i fell through...I think Kraemer likes me though!! They told me they hope to see me back on Saturday! I know maybe they'll say that to everyone, but I definitely noticed a difference in vibes between the two sororities! We'll see what happens tomorrow if I don't fall through...my invites time is at 9:10am and Preference is tomorrow night!! ahhhhhhh

WhiteDaisy128 08-22-2003 10:35 PM

Sounds like a great time! I hope that you get carried through to pref as well! Pref is pretty magical so keep an open mind (still!!) and enjoy it. Let us know when you do!

RedFox 08-23-2003 08:19 AM

:( Thought I should post the bad news...I got a call from my gamma chi...I didn't make it through pref night...got cut. I fell through recruitment and its hard for me to look in the mirror and tell myself that...I really thought I had a shot going through as a junior, but I guess i was wrong. There is COB...but I dont know how I feel about that. I already feel embarassed enough telling everyone and anyone about this whole thing and now its like...ooh I fell through. I just feel like COB now (not before for some reason) is pitying me. I may as well tell you who the sororities were...Jerry was DZ, Elaine was AZD, George was Pi Beta Phi and Kraemer was Alpha Chi Omega. I thought they liked me, I really did. I guess I was totally wrong and I'm trying to think things over about how others really view me. Anyway, thats the end of my rush thread, man I thought it was going to be positive for once. Oh well...kind of hard to be upbeat now. Thank you all so much for being there and trying your best to get me as far as I could go. You all have really been supportive and great and i'm sorry things didn't work out. I kind of feel like I let you all down by building up suspense and all that, but anyway. hope to talk to you all soon.

TechAPhi 08-23-2003 08:33 AM

I am so very sorry to hear this. But hold your head high! You gave it a shot as a junior at a very competitive campus. We all admire you! You have nothing to feel embarassed about.

I know it is hard to imagine considering COB, but if it is an option, I urge you to check it out if you feel you still might enjoy Greek life. Many, many wonderful women join GLOs through COB.

COB is a great option for both sides -- it allows for a slower pace in a more relaxed setting. It's still a mutal selection process -- not pity in any way. Many times during formal recruitment, chapters simply don't have the time to get to know every woman and, alas, gems are sometimes lost!

COB gives both the chapter and the potential new member a second chance. :)

No matter what you decide, we all wish you the very best!

mmcat 08-23-2003 08:34 AM

hon...no embarrasment, do not hold your head down and no more tears. we all know how hard it is rushing as a junior. but definitely consider cob. i agree with techaphi, sometimes in the heat of battle a gem is lost. you are such a gem.

MTSUGURL 08-23-2003 09:13 AM

As a fellow junior that didn't get invited back to pref let me say this:

We have NO REASON to be embarrassed. We tried something we wanted without fear of ridicule (which in my case came from some because of my age.) How many people can say that in every day lives without hundreds of people watching? We did it in a high profile setting WITH hundreds of people watching.

Keep your mind open to COB - You've waited this long, you''ve tried this hard - One more try may be all it takes.

BIG HUGS to you Pam!

Ditto what they both said -- I know you are feeling low now but don't rule out COB -- you'd be an asset at any house and it's unfortunate things turned out like this but COB is always a possibility -- if you don't at least give it a try you may kick yourself years from now...we are all behind you - don't forget that!:)

aephi alum 08-23-2003 09:45 AM

I'm so sorry. :(

Listen to Crystal... wise words.

Chin up :) and think about COB.

WhiteDaisy128 08-23-2003 09:45 AM

There are always other options...

Like everyone else said there is no reason to be embarrased...most juniors wouldn't even have the guts to go through formal recruitment anyway!!

AZpinkkittie 08-23-2003 10:13 AM

Pam, it seems like you've been my partner through this whole thing since the beginning. We were both really nervous about going through as older girls. things may not have worked out as you hoped, but you did make an impression on these girls, a great one I'm sure. Limitations hurt everyone. Perhaps COB will be a great chance for the sisters to take lots of PNM's like you! Girls they loved but had to cut. I'm verry sorry you had to go through this, but your such a great person, things have to turn out right in the end.

ZTAMich 08-23-2003 10:41 AM

Many hugs to you Pam. Hope you enjoy the weekend and think about COBing too.

JohnsDGsweethrt 08-23-2003 10:51 AM

Pam you did an amazing job and are an amazing woman! COB is a viable option for you and I hope you explore it! Good luck!

DWAlphaGam 08-23-2003 11:15 AM

I just wanted to jump in and encourage you to try to COB, as well. I joined through COB, and believe me, it's definitely not a "pity bid." A sister is a sister, no matter how she joined. And, even if you don't get to COB, alumnae initiation is always another possibility. Just because you were not able to join from formal recruitment doesn't mean that all doors are shut to you. Good luck with whatever your decision may be.

breathesgelatin 08-23-2003 11:40 AM

Pam--this is really rough. I totally admire anyone who goes through recruitment as a junior! Don't rule out COB and stick around!

SparkliiQTMTSU 08-23-2003 11:47 AM

AWWW sweetie I am so sorry to hear that you fell through :( but its hard going through as a jr they dont think youre going to stick around enough or something I dont really know . but anyways you do still have a shot at COB :) I hope all goes well.

Nichole

IvySpice 08-23-2003 12:13 PM

I know there's nothing we can say to stop those cuts from hurting. But please, please don't feel that you've let us down. You were so generous to share your story with us, and we would hate to think that we are contributing to your sadness even in the tiniest way. YOU tackled an uphill battle and gave it your all; how could we think that you had let us down?

There are so many ways to get involved on a big campus; I hope you'll explore singing groups, religious groups, public service groups, club sports, publications. To be perfectly frank, sororities do not have any kind of monopoly on helping you find a lifelong group of close college friends who you love like family. You can find that without COB, without AI, without greek life at all.

Ivy
