i've been having a lot of anxiety about whether or not i want to rush. i was SET on the idea, and now a bunch of other factors are just making me think about the pros and cons. this isn't necessarily a bad thing, because at least in the end i will know that whatever my decision is, it was thought out properly. anyway, what i really MEANT to say was that whenever i have my doubts about rushing, they are eliminated the minute i get on to GC and see all the good stories and supportive people. i just thought i'd share that.
hah, and another thing...on the "pro" list i have going in my head, one of the reasons i should rush is so i won't let ya'll down with the lack of my personal perspective of LSU rush! 'cause i know it's going to be interesting, and i know you LOVE your rush threads =) |

yes moxie please feed our addictions! lol

Yay!!!!!!!!!! I got my Greek Life Introduction mailer yesterday!!! I read it cover to cover. Can't wait to register and start the whole process. The book has all the $$ figures for the houses (ok, frat dues are wayyy less than sorority dues. What up with that??), Schedule of recruitment week, and even a helpful little page with suggestions on what you should wear. Ok, need to settle down now. I gotta get to the website and register for rush. Yay!!!!!!!!

Maybe fraternities assess; I know some sororities do. Kappa does not, so the amount listed is all that is required (this does not include T-shirts, pictures, memorabilia, or other optional costs).

 OT - my dirty mind

When I glanced at the beginning of the post above this, I thought it said "Maybe fraternities asses" and was like WTF!!!! :D :p

33girl, where's my Ivory soap? I'm just glad I typed in all the necessary letters!!! ;) :D

rush at my school starts august 25th. it is a small recruitment.
the groups are: alpha chi omega delta gamma zeta tau alpha kappa delta (colonizing) last year about 150 girls went through and quota was around 42. so i think my chances are good for this fall. i am so scared though. i consider myself at a tremendous advantage cause of GC. i am studying past rush threads and advice threads. i am going to be so prepared!! i know that there is not much that i can do. but its hard to have to let something take its course that you have no control over. especially when it is so deep in your heart. |

I can't wait to hear about all your stories once everything begins this fall! Good luck w/ everything and keep us updated :)

I'm seriously bouncing up and down in my seat! I absolutely love rush threads! (err...recruitment) Good luck to everyone going through the process, and make sure to keep us informed!
I wish Butler had recruitment soon, but we don't have ours until January. Boo. |

(singing and doing a stupid little dance) I am so excited... I am so excited....

Y'all are bringing back memories of my rush and the excitement I felt. I hope you all find the GLO that you will love as much as I love Kappa Kappa Gamma.
	 |

The hardest part at this point is reminding myself to be realistic and excited at the same time. I'm a junior, and I've never heard anyone from MTSU say that juniors and seniors are freebies. I expect to be cut heavily, but I"m still excited. I'm crossing my fingers, preparing all that I can, and keeping up the (hopefully realistic) optimism!

I keep hearing some girls say that I wont be a "favorite" because I am a senior. It kind of makes me not want to rush anymore because I dont think that its fair that I already seem like I am not starting on the same level as the other girls. It seems like I am down below, while everyone else is above me. I wish I would have rushed earlier. Things just weren't where they should have been, and this is like the best time for me- unfortunately I am a senior. I don't know what to do- but I think that next week I am going to go see if there is any information packet I can pick up |

The nice thing about upper classmen rushing is that they are usually more dedicated and join for the right reasons. They also know how to balance activities and schoolwork.
I hope that the sororities at your schools recognize that, and if not, they are missing out on 2 wonderful girls! If it doesn't work out though, I hope you seek out Alumni Initiation. My best friend rushed at FSU and didn't get invited to Pref for any of the houses she really liked so she dropped out of rush... she may become an AI though when she graduates! |

I agree with what you said, this is the best time for me- and I really think I want to join for the right reasons. We'll see what happens. |

So.... how many rush threads are we really counting on? I'd like to see some firm promises!! :) Please remember, we were each and every one of us in y'all's shoes, and we are VERY good at encouragement!!
Those of y'all who plan to thrill us with a rush thread, please stand up and be counted!! |

count me! and if you're lucky, i won't be too tired and will incorporate plenty of the MOXIE that is me, for an especially entertaining week.
	 |

You'll get one from me, but it'll be undera different screen name. I've met several wonderful women from MTSU by way of GC, and I think it would best for me to switch names so I can be anonymous and all that fun stuff. That way, I can be honest about my reactions and feelings about each chapter.
	 |

you will defintely get one from me. i have been looking forward to my own rush thread for months!!:D
	 |

I'll post another one for BlazerCheer and she'll say, "Mommmm! I am sooo embarrassed!" She won't have access to a computer during rush, though....she'll be at cheer camp when she's not at parties.
	 |

You'll be getting one from me too :) However...I have a question: What can we say and what shouldn't we say when we post? Of course I'm not going to go into THAT much detail and be like ABC sorority sucks and they were so mean, but I will give me thoughts and stuff like that..anyone have any sample threads from earlier formal recruitment weeks that I could look at as sort of something to base what I write on? Thanks :) You all have been so supportive. I can't wait to rush!
	 |

do what i am doing. go to search and type in 'rush stories' or 'rush threads'. when you get there you may have to go through several pages to the threads from last fall. there are tons of old rushee stories. i study them like a prayer book!lol

to name names, or to not name names...

THAT is my question :D . this time, at least!
in reading past threads, i've noticed a difference of opinion regarding naming names of specific GLOs while the PNM updates during actual rush week. some say - name names! it helps us to understand and follow stories, and makes it more interesting! others say - do not name names! it is not necessary! both sides, however, seem to have some sort of agreement about one major thing - IF you are naming names, DO NOT say negative things about the named GLO. i mean, go ahead and say if you don't fit in, but don't say "they're ugly, stupid, smelly," etc! also, if an active from your school is reading the posts, you do not want to offend them! so, unless the GC rush addicive community advises me to do otherwise, i think during rush week when i update on parties/invites/etc., i WILL name names, but not do any trashing GLOs. IF this is not suggested, i guess i could just use numbers...but even i might get confused if i'm doing that! suggestions? |

Re: to name names, or to not name names...

In some past threads, the PNM's will use numbers
ex: House 1 - this was super fun House 2 - this was fun too etc. and keep the same numbers throughout the process... I personally think the numbers are fun because when i read the rush threads I'm all excited, *and* wondering WHO #1 is, #2, etc... it kind of leaves us in suspense... (especially during pref... like if there were 10 sororites on campus and you could pref two, it drives us all crazy in a good way.. kind of like "this is so exciting!!! but I want to know which one is #1, $5, etc. since it would be harder to narrow it down..) but that's just me :) |

Ex: Day 1 House 1 (really Chi-O) House 2 (really Kappa) House 3 (really Theta) House 4 (really PiPhi) House 5 (really ADPi) if on Day 2, you get invited back to Kappa, Theta, and ADPi, make sure to leave the numbers 2, 3, and 5 so we can follow your story. I also love the threads where girls would say (I'm going back to 2, 3, and 5, and got released from ChiO (or House 1) and PiPhi (or House 4). That way we have a better idea of who is still in the running! |

I think it's fairly safe to post the actual names of sororities if you haven't mentioned your full name (or just your first name if you have an unusual one), and if you haven't been describing your outfits. If you keep this information to yourself, chances are low that the sisters will figure out who you are, especially at a school with a big Greek system. But if you want to share this information, it's probably better to use numbers, just so you minimize your chances of getting cut. |

I think that if any pnm is generous enough to take time out of her recruitment schedule to post to GC, she should post in the manner she feels most comfortable. After addictively reading each and every recruitment thread from last summer and fall, I would say that the pnms who kept the houses on their campus anonymous, by using House 1, House 2 instead of real names, felt more protected. Recruitment is certainly stressful enough, posting to GC should be the very least of any pnms worries. A pnm should come here for support and fun, and some advice that comes from experience. If we who are on "the other side" gain a window into her experience, all the better, but I would never want my desire for that "window" to compromise her experience in any fashion.
Okay, here's my entirely selfish idea. Because I have pretty bad number dyslexia, I can never keep track of the houses, when they're represented by numbers...so I am making a plug for giving the houses on your campus a proper name. So, a pnm could name the houses on her campus for different flowers, or different streets in her home town or on her campus, or for different cities she's visited, or when I was in college I was obsessed with reading and music. So I could have named my campus chapters: The violin house, the flute house, the guitar house, the piano house, the harp house etc... Okay, it may seem silly, but I got the idea from the weddings I've gone to that don't use numbers on the tables any more at the reception, they always use proper names, which seems so personal... Okay, it's just a selfish plea...but in reality, I want any pnm on here to do what is most comfortable for them. Recruitment is an amazing time, I wish you all the best rush you could possibly have. violets |

I know my this is soooo Un PC.. but I hate the numbers. I posted the chapters when my cousin went through last year... I just did not say anything bad...
I get soo lost with the numbers.. and people forget to say who they are going back too... I understand that there are people from your school on GC.. and guess what.. they are the first ones to guess the house and best follow the #'s! I see nothing wrong with posting chapters, as long as you follow the golden rule... "If you do not have something nice to say, do not say anything at all!" |

Last fall, the twins and I were going to use names of precious stones but it got so complicated that we gave up and just said, "Ballerina and BlazerCheer will be going back to ADPi, Chi O, and Phi Mu." I got too many pms from people who would say things like, "Don't use diamonds for ADPi, it's too obvious because of our pin shape," or "KD and emeralds would be too obvious because of the color."
	You can't win! |

I will say the news that BlazerCheer is planning to go through recruitment was one of the best things I've read on the board lately! I'm so excited to read her about her reactions. I wish her all the best. violets |

 Erin's two cents (for what it's worth :D )
I personally prefer to hear the name of the chapter. It sounds selfish, but it helps me keep a better track of who is going where. I'm horrible with numbers too. Another though. I know during rush I definitely don't have time to be browsing on the net. The year I rushed as a sister I tried to keep a GC journal of how my side went, and it was super hard! Heck, Jharb was posting comments about her rush and about my house, but I was too busy and preoccupied to notice until after the Pref Parties! I have a feeling that most of the sisters will be the same way. During rush sisters are sooo busy practicing, setting up decorations, getting the skit ready, etc. LOL I doubt a lot will have time to snoop on GC to see if any PNM said anything bad. Hehe. Just an idea... |

A little late, but you will definitely be gatting a Rush thread from me. Also :
