I can't wait to hear how it turned out!!!!
|
Just got back...
...am really bushed from lots of driving -- I just missed meeting up with Carnation by several minutes...rats! If Gamma Phi is selected, I know I will be back -- the drive was not bad and the campus is GORGEOUS!!!
The presentation went very well, IMHO ;) -- one of the collegiate women in attendance told one of the young Gamma Phis there that she thought their sorority had already made up their mind but now she was not sure at all since our presentation! The rest is up to the local women now -- carnation - over to you: please keep us posted. One bright note -- met another Gamma Phi who lives in the area -- next door to the College President as a matter of fact!;) :D and she is interested in helping start an alum group -- yay! Now on to my wine cellar for a little de-tuning!:D ;) |
Double rats! GPhiBLtCol, I went back to the presentation again and the Gamma Phi VP said that you had just left five minutes before!!! I wanted to meet you so badly and I hope we get together in Atlanta next month!
Okay, Fuzi, what's the scoop? I went over to campus to teach tonight and ran all over trying to find anybody who could fill me in but Booo! The place was practically deserted! |
Well,
I thought Fuzi could not attend.....:(
|
I didn't get to go to the meeting but what's been said is true! Our sorority thought we knew exactly who we wanted to affiliate with, and Gamma Phi Beta made quite an impression today. I've only heard about it from two girls, but supposidly they're having to rethink their vote. We vote tomorrow night - wish us luck with that... it's gonna be a tough one!!
xoxo |
How exciting!!!!
When are the 'matches' made? |
whichever your chapter choses...
i hope it is the right fit for you. Good luck to you and your fellow chapter members during the vote! Whether or not i will ever call you my sister doesn't matter as much as finding a place where you belong. Good Luck Fuzi!
|
Does the other local vote tonight, as well?
|
It's No Secret Now :)
Hip Hip Horray!!
I just got back from the meeting and I have great news! All votes went to Phi Mu except for 5! (And three of those votes were to not go national at all.) So - we start the next level of this process. We'll talk to our student activities director tomorrow and see what's next on the list :) The other local sorority on campus did vote tonight, but I don't know the results just yet. I'll get back to you! xoxo |
Woohoooooo!!! Y'all are gonna have such a super time! Do you know what Phi Mu is going to do?
I hope the others vote tonight, we have--what? A week more of class! Let me extend an early BIENVENIDAS to the NPC!!! |
Because I am not well-versed with NPC rules..
are votings & things like that supposed to remain non-public until the final results are in? (i.e. mutual selections) Best of luck to you & your chapter!!! :) |

(see signature ;) ) BTW, what would happen if both locals voted for the same national? |

Also, I don't think our other local will choose Phi Mu. If they decide to go national they had another sorority in their scopes. I'll let you know something when I find out! -Fuzi (so excited!) Just found out!!! They chose to stay LOCAL. This means we could have 4 sororities next year! Yay us! |
Good Luck, fuzicrayon!! I hope one day you'll be wearing pinkand white!!
|

I also think that a bunch of their members will choose to leave and go national...either way, AB might not be around much longer. And I'd better not see any of their new members wearing stupid leprechaun outfits in my classes next fall! |
I am so excited that yall picked Phi Mu! I hope things work out with them, that would be totally fabulous and I may someday be able to call you my sister! :D Good luck!
|
Awe!! That is so exciting :) I hadn't really thought about that. All this time, I've been talking to potential sisters. We might be family someday! <-- that makes me giddy
I just heard that about 1/3 of the 'AB' sorority is going inactive. This is their first response to staying local and obviously some of the girls are REALLY upset about it. I wonder if they'll really go inactive or if they'll tough it out and stick with their sisters. Sometimes you just don't see what's good for you. |
YAY for potential Phi Mu sisters!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so excited you all voted to go Phi Mu! I hope everything works out so by next year I can call YOU my sister!
|
I forget and wasn't sure when I looked - with the fraternities, did all of "ABC" go w/ Chi Phi and all of "DEF" go with Delta Sigma Phi?
I'm glad the vote went well, FuziCrayon and I hope things work out w/ Phi Mu! :) |
Yay!!!
This is so exciting!!! I am so happy that you guys found a national group that you identify with and love! (And I am even happier that it is Phi Mu, hehehe) Good luck with everything and keep us posted.
|
Congratulations fuzi! Phi Mu is a terrific organization! I can't wait to hear how things go with colonization!
The other local wants to be local? Seems like they are signing their death certificate with that move! I really wish that they would have chosen KD!! |
I'm so confused! Did the school's administration say that the locals had to become national or disband?
I agree that it might be hard to be the only local on a campus full of nationals. Phi Mu is an awesome organization (and sort of like a sister sorority to Alpha Delta Pi!) !!! I wish you all the best!! Please keep us updated!!! |

Several of the faculty feel that there's space for 2 other nationals here--I agree too. With the disaffiliated ABs and all the girls who never pledged, I'm sure there are well over 100 girls who want to go Greek! Texas Princess--the faculty members were told that no locals would be allowed so we don't know what gives with that...whether they're going to try to go sub rosa or just disappear. If they are going to be allowed to continue as a local, their future will be, um, interesting to say the least. Like I told fuzicrayon, they better not send any new members dressed in stupid costumes into my classroom! And I will bust them again if they make the new members dress like leprechauns and march singing through WalMart. Pike4Life has also seen that. 33girl, I'm pretty sure that the guys' groups all went with the nationals. Or at least no one heard of anyone disaffilating. Fuzicrayon, you got a B on your final! |
Just my $.02...From a local point of view, no, it's not hard being the only local on campus. When all of the sororities on our campus decided to go national in the early 1990s we were the only one's who decided to stay local. It was just the right thing for us to do.
Over the last 7 years that I have been around we have almost always been the largest group on campus, we have the highest retention rate of new members, and our alumnae are much more active than any other alumnae groups. Best of luck to you!! :D |
carnation, thanks for the update & clarification!
I hope no one will be prancing around Walmart in leprechaun-gear next fall or even after that! :) |

I so wish this wasn't and isn't true... |
Well, it's not just the looks--Phi Mu must have a much larger rush budget than AB. They'll have things like multimedia presentations and they'll talk about national philanthropies and programming and alum clubs and they'll bring in all these impressive local alums. I can think of at least 9 local girls who are currently Phi Mu actives at Georgia colleges and they'll be talking to their friends as well. Also, many freshmen will want to be in nationals like their friends. One reason our college has lost many potential freshmen is that so many women want to join nationals.
Finally, many parents around here have refused to let their kids join the locals because of their past rep (through 2001) of hazing. I for one would have gone berserk if I'd seen my daughter marching in formation at 6 AM or being yelled at or dressed in ridiculous outfits. As far as I know, that's been over for over 2 years but the reputation persists. |

wellllllllll.....
................it's all fine and grand that Phi Mu was picked by one of the locals, and I am sure Phi Mu Hqtrs will say yes and they will both live happily ever after etc...it surely does seem to be a match made in heaven...
...but let's not forget that two other National sororities presented as well -- Gamma Phi Beta and Kappa Delta -- BOTH are outstanding sororities (if I do say so myself!) and both have lots to be proud of -- are we not seen as 'face' sororities because we weren't chosen, I don't know... ...heck, I know my aging face ain't that gorgeous anymore! C'est la vie...Nonetheless, I am not gonna feel bad... ...after all, Phi Mu was a pretty likely choice since their Nu chapter used to be there many many years ago...their HQtrs is less two hours away (and in fact it will soon move to my fair city;) ...Personally, I hope that Carnation's prognostication ends up being true and one or both of us 'other' sororities are asked to colonize too. I am ready to help -- no matter how far it is for me to drive (less than two hours) and I know one of our local alums is ready to start an alumnae chapter now! She seems fairly prominent from what I can tell -- she is president of the local symphony orchestra and happens to live next door to the university president...:D Congrats indeed to Phi MU and Let's all think happy thoughts for ALL the GLOs that presented!:) :) :) :) |
yeah fuzi!!!! i am so excited! as gphibltcolonel said, there are 2 other groups that presented....and hopefully the will be picked too! i really hope that 3 national groups are able to start chapters there!!!
|
Just to clarify - we were NOT told that we had to go national or disban. We were told we could affiliate with an organization, or stay local... but we had to make a group decision. I'm not sure about ABs future. They have a pretty strong sorority and a even stronger past. Also, our college is expensive. Many of the current Greeks have a hard time paying $60 per semester. They were worried about going national partially b/c of the money. SO, next year during rush, we'll see if the new sisters/pledges are willing to dish out the dough or if they need to save the money and go with the less expensive group. Not only do potential sisters look at what the sorority "looks" like (PS The Phi Mus that came to visit were very very classy women. Not all cookie cutter, but classy.) but also how much it will cost the student.
|
Sounds like things are really heating up down there in Georgia! Best of luck to Gamma Phi Beta, Kappa Delta, Phi Mu, and the ladies of Delta and AB, as well as all the non-Greek PNMs in sorting it all out! :)
|
Ok, can someone tell me what campus we are talking about now? Or is it still undercover?
|
I waylaid an AB who cme over to see my daughter last night. They took another vote, still with no permanent results. A bare but simple majority voted to stay local but their constitution requires two-thirds. Many people could not come for the vote. Those who want to go national say they will walk if they don't nationalize.
Either way, I don't think AB will last long. From what I hear, it's the very strong go-getters who want to go national. |
Yessss! Tonight the ladies of Delta Sigma Theta are holding an interest group meeting! They're expecting 20-25 women. I was working on fall registration materials and all these older ladies went by with big grins and pots of African violets.
Good luck to the Deltas! |
Best of luck to the Deltas !!!
|
Well, now if I had not pissed off the Brother in charge of expansion so bad, well that is history!:(
Any Fraternitys there yet carnation????? PM me if you will and fill me in and update!:) |
Delta Sigma Phi and Chi Phi have been installed as chapters. Phi Mu will be installed as a chapter on April 3! The local sorority is continuing to look lame because of the nationals.
No word yet from the Delta professor who put on the event last night. I hope it went great! |
Thanks carnation, I am sadden as you well know!:(
|
YEAH!! Just got an email from the Delta professor and they had a great turnout and expect more interest from our 2 satellite campuses in Atlanta.:)
