Oh my gracious mercy...now this organization is naming their graduate/professional chapters in the style of Theta Nu Xi.

Ok...basically I am speechless. I am still trippin' on "the Bruhs" and I have to agree, if you don't want to be apart of D9...why use any signs even remotely close to the existing ones that were created by "TRUE FOUNDERS"?

WOW! What an interesting thread. Even during my lurking years I did not see this...LOL

I appreciate you bumping this up. I learned quite a bit from this thread.

If you didn't want to tell me, that's fine. If it's something that only AKAs should know about, that's fine, too. But, don't try to clown me. I've not done anything to warrant that. I only wanted to know what it was so my org did not inadvertantly bite it.

Ooooook. Apparantly, your question was serious, (even though your approach didn't seem so, as it pertains in NO WAY to this thread)cso I'll give you a more serious answer.

From your above reply, you seem to know more about your inquiry than you let on. For one, you must have realized that it is something that may not quite be public knowledge if a simple Google or GC search could not have supplied the information that you seek.

Secondly, if it is something that you presume to be specific to Alpha Kappa Alpha, why post over on DST Ave. and not simply PM a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha? You can approach us with questions that pertain to our org. Go directly to the source.

Lastly, you know that you didn't create the "ivy stance," so instantly, on some level, you knew you would be "biting." If your org. wishes to do something, do it. Your concern should not be whether you are "biting" off of another org. It's nearly 100 years since Alpha Kappa Alpha was founded, as well as the founding of the other D9 sororities. After nearly a century, there is hardly anything new under the sun. It's all been done.

With that said, do what feels right for your org. and don't worry about everyone else. Make your org. independently great. Good luck! ;)

Seeing as how several previous posters mentioned the "ivy stance" in their posts, referring to the GLBT sorority photos, I felt it was germaine to the discussion. No disrespect to you, but I will not privately message you because there is nothing to "rectify"; I am not a wayward child in need of chastising and I find your comment condescending. I just asked a simple question out of curiosity and the desire not to inadvertantly offend (which obviously I did, but in a different way). Nothing more, nothing less.

All I wanted to know was what the ivy stance was. That's it. No disrespect meant when I say this, but I didn't ask for all the extra information and opinion you gave in your reply.

This is the last I'm going to say about this, because it truly was not my intent to corrupt a thread or a forum. So, I consider this matter to be closed. I will; however, be more mindful of where I post org-specific questions from now on.

To save you humiliation, I was trying to be kind so as you will not be embarassed to ask such an assinine question as you did.

Because you lack discretion and disrespected my Sorority and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. by posting some inane association you will have YET get any answers to your questions.

You are now hearby labeled as an renegade and perpetrator. You have yet to feel chastised and yes, I am treating you as beneath me for your retorts.

Curiousity killed the cat and you have offended simply because you choose remain ignorant of both Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and our topmost posts on ethics rules.

Continue your belittling of me or any of my sorors or other members of the D9 greeks, and I hope we can have a intellectual encounter.

I know!!!

Back to the thread since I am soooo late!
I was :eek: at the reference to the butch (their word) as gentlewomen and Bruhs!!! When I saw Bruhs I was under the inpression that there would be gay and/or homosexual guys not girls?

RedefinedDiva 05-16-2007 10:36 PM

You'd be surprised! Some of them are really deceptive. I know you've seen them on Jerry Springer!!

However, I'm convinced that any woman that falls for that mess is crazy because I know a woman when I see a woman, even if she looks like a man. And even if she flies under radar for the visual aspect, you mean to tell me that NONE of these women do a THOUROUGH...uh..."inspection" BEFORE getting intimate with these chickdudes? It never ceases to amaze me....

But there are others popping up. I'll see if I can find the links.

I was too. It took me a few minutes and more reading to figure it out. I still don't understand why there are two branches of this org. If it's for the empowerment of lesbian women of color, why not just one org. Do they each do different things in the community based on the two groups butch/fem. What does that accomplish?

I don't know much about the Lesbian community, but I would assume that making one for the 'girly girls' and one for the 'agressive' (their word) women, does not show much unity. But oh well.....I did get a few good laughs out of it.....I only wish I was able to see the pictures everyone else was talking about.

My point exactly. As much as I had to hear about lesbianism from my women's studies professor and how the GLBT struggle is akin to the Black Civil Rights Movement, you almost get this image of a monolithic group. But maybe that buys into the "Black Vote" group and "Gay Rights" group. They're doing themselves and the community (gay and straight) a disservice by fracturing like that. Make the fraternity for male (biological sex) or transgendered males.

I don't get it either, even outside of this context. Why are some lezzes into such manish women, and even refer to them as men? Just get a man! It's like eating white chocolate or drinking O'douls (fake beer). I like men as men, and women as women!

It's called "packing", the bulge in her (his?) jeans looks identical to the real thing. :o Some of these biznatches won't know it's a fake man and a fake  until the lights come on in the bedroom or she cops a feel and realizes its plastic.

FINAL THOUGHT: I thought OEII was supposed to be the "feminine" sorority. I looked the pictures and it didn't appear to be that way too me.

Why would I be humiliated? Humiliation is rooted in pride, and I'm not so prideful that I can't admit to making a mistake, when my mistakes are pointed out to me. What I DO take issue with is being disrespected. And, yes, I feel you disrespected me purposely when you made the conscious choice to phrase your "request", for me to PM you, as you did.

Now, if some of the ladies of Delta Sigma Theta and Alpha Kappa Alpha feel disrespected by my question (which I thought was innocent), it was not anything I did intentionally -- and, I have already stated that more than once, if I recall correctly. Additionally, they are grown women and can speak for themselves; they don't need you to speak for them. This is a public forum and anyone wanting to comment can click on the Reply button -- it's so easy, even a caveman can do it.

Discretion. Well, riddle me this. Why would I need to be discreet if I have absolutely NO INTEREST in now, or ever, joining any of the D9 sororities (I'm not hostile to them, and I have no axe to grind, but we're not a match)? I thought the hush-hush tip was for those who were actually interested in joining.

Labeling/Chastising/Retorts and all your other threats. Girl, get over yourself. As we used to say waay back in the day, "you ain't no fire". I see straight through you. You're just mad because I wouldn't let you bully me. So, now you're going to round up your GC clique and reinact 'Heathers'. Utterly hilarious. And, pathetic. I hope these women don't let you do their thinking for them and cosign your foolishness. Grow up.

I chose to remain ignorant when you, and others, chose to jump down my throat and talk to me like I was pond scum. Your individual organizations may be fantastic, but when you ladies came at me with both barrels blazing, it was akin to when Vanessa Huxtable brought Dabnis home for the very first time and was met with a cold reception -- Cliff told Dabnis he was a top steak presented on a dirty trash can lid. I'm sure you get the gist...

I didn't belittle you or anyone else. That's your area of expertise. I just know how to give as good as I get. Again, as we used to say back in the day, "don't start nothing, won't be nothing". Don't dish it if you can't take it.

I said I wasn't going to respond to this thread anymore, and I intended to keep my word. However, your post needed to be rebutted on the record.

christiangirl, it's not just you. That statement was funny, period. The whole sub-thread was funny to me.

This reminds me of Madea's Family Reunion...."I'D RATHER BE IN JAIL FIGHTIN' FO' MY VIRGINITY THAN MESSIN' WIT THAT LIL' GIRL!!!" :D :D :D

Seriously, this is just.....a bit much. Okay 1st amendment, y'all. Let them do them and just be peaceful with the lionesses roaring and whatever else they do. Everyone needs a place where they belong. And since we've proven that they would get clowned everywhere else, they made up a spot. If there's a gentleMAN, why not a gentlewoman? Women are traditionally more gentle than men anyway, so it actually makes more sense than the traditional term...

Okay, I'm stretching. Let me go think about it for a minute.

OneTimeSBX 05-17-2007 12:02 PM

i know, i know...1ST AMENDMENT...

i swear im not homophobic. and its true, get in where you fit in, and if you cant find anywhere to fit in, start your own sh*t! i think the bottom line is that shouldnt someone, somewhere make these ladies feel welcome? it may just boil down to where they dont feel like they fit anywhere...any of them could be my soror as long as they were down for the cause...

did they remove their guestbook, I'm curious to see the entries some of you were talking about....

I give them props for seeing the need to service a community, one that is honestly overlooked and/or pushed to the side, and building something to help that community, can't knock em on that.

I personally think they could've used a less predictable and cheesy national stroll song than Diana Ross' "I'm Coming Out"

AKA_Monet 05-18-2007 01:54 AM

Whatever dude...

No dear, your retort was wrong and showed your ignorance about both of our Sororities.

If all you think about us is a "stance" that you hope to not "bite", you have got a lot more to learn about what a Sorority is and is not.

Good luck in court.

And just because you have a made up, fabricated organization sporting greek letters does not make you a sorority, especially an unincorporated one.

If you are the representation of your membership, you are piss poor, sorry and lazy member to post on Greekchat to gain insight and ideas about how to fathom being a sorority.

You blew your chance to speak to other GC'ers who would be happy to assist you in your endeavors. You have yet to know how to network.

You and your organization is a drive-by, cain't you don't cha sorority. If I am inspiring, don't share with me because I really don't care what happens to you all.

Oh well. Whatever. Good luck with that...
