We see plenty of dirty diapers in the forecast for Al Roker.

The oversized Today show meteorologist was MIA from Friday morning's show so he could be with his wife, 20/20 correspondent Deborah Roberts, and their brand-new baby boy.

The nursery news was broken Friday by Roker's Today cohorts Matt Lauer and Katie Couric. "Al Roker is not here," Lauer said as the show began. "He's getting to know his new son, Nicholas Albert Roker, who was born on Thursday afternoon. So congratulations to Al and Deborah Roberts."

"Yes," Couric chimed in, "very exciting news."

Nicholas made his debut in a New York hospital and tipped the scales at just over eight pounds. Baby, mom and dad are all said to be doing well.

Roker, who turns 48 next month, and Roberts, who's six years younger, first met when she began working for NBC News in 1990. They remained friendly after the collapse of Roker's first marriage and eventually began dating. They were married in 1996.

Nicholas is the couple's second child; they have a daughter, Leila, who's three and a half. Roker also has a daughter from his first marriage.

Halle Berry and Eric Benet are reportedly working to fix their
marriage. Eric's been released from that rehab center (The Meadows) in Arizona where he was being treated for sexual addiction. Word is that he recently visited Halle on the set of her upcoming James Bond movie, "Die Another Day."

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are no longer keeping their romance on the D.L. Word is that J-Lo and Ben had no qualms about kissing in front of a restaurant full of people when they went out for sushi at the New York hot spot Nobu recently. They chilled out a little when somebody told them that some photographers were hanging around outside. In fact, when it came time to go, J-Lo left through the front door and Affleck slipped out through the a service entrance. By the way, Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds joined Lopez and Affleck for part of their lunch together. FYI: One of the things that makes J-Lo a good catch for Ben Affleck is that she's a very, very light drinker. You may remember that Affleck spent time in a Malibu, California rehab clinic last summer to get his alcohol use in check.

The Rev. Al Sharpton filed a $1 billion lawsuit against HBO yesterday because the network showed that old hidden camera video of him talking about drug deals with an undercover FBI agent. That tape was shown on "Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel" as part of a story on Michael Franzese, an ex-Mafia man and sports bookie. Sharpton's suit accuses HBO of "defamation, libel and slander." It demands $500 million in compensatory and $500 million in punitive damages. While standing in front of Manhattan Supreme Court yesterday, Sharpton declared, "I will not give in to a smear campaign. HBO had a responsibility to show any and all information that was available. By not doing so, what they did was to sanitize a mobster and criminalize a civil rights activist." A spokesperson for HBO said, "The tape we aired is an integral part of the story we presented. We asked Mr. Sharpton for his response and we showed his position. Viewers can judge for themselves. As to Rev. Sharpton's claim that there is a second videotape that exonerates him, we indicated to him that we would welcome the chance to see it."

You'd think Mystikal would have learned a thing or two about the pitfalls of home video from the now infamous R. Kelly case.


Apparently not, because it looks like the rapper is involved in another case of too-candid camera.

The chart-topping hip-hopster is facing possible life imprisonment after being arrested on rape charges last week in his hometown of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Now, police there say that Mystikal's alleged victim, a 40-year-old hair stylist that worked for the rap star, tipped them off to the existence of a videotape that purportedly shows Mystikal and two men sexually assaulting the woman after accusing her of stealing his money.

Baton Rouge Police Department spokeswoman Mary Ann Godawa says the tape, found in the performer's apartment and since entered into evidence, confirms the allegations against Mystikal, whose real name is Michael Tyler.

The rape, which authorities say occurred July 3 at Mystikal's residence, resulted in his arrest last Thursday with 36-year-old Leland Ellis and 34-year-old Vercy Carter. All three men were booked on charges of aggravated rape and extortion after threatening to turn the unidentified woman over to police for an alleged "check-writing scam," if she didn't perform sexual favors for them in return.

Mystikal, a Grammy nominee for his funkified booty anthem " Shake Ya Ass," was later released on $250,000 bail and has denied all the charges against him, as have his lawyers.

"I am extremely confident that he will be exonerated of all charges that are currently pending against him," said attorney Michael Guy in a statement.

Bail had yet to be set for the other two men.

According to the arrest warrant, the victim stopped by Mystikal's house to braid his hair. Once she arrived, he accused her of stealing money by cashing unauthorized checks written by one of his associates who had access to the rapper's accounts. When he commanded her to "get into the bedroom and take your clothes off," the report says the woman felt afraid and did as ordered. He then allegedly forced her to perform oral sex on him.

It was at that point, that Mystikal called Ellis and Carter over to the house and, police say, made Ellis get the camcorder and record the rapper having intercourse with the woman. The warrant also says the rapper continued to assault her after the camera was turned off. Then, the camera was supposedly turned back on while Ellis and Carter took turns raping the woman.

The victim reported the attack to police on July 4. A subsequent search turned up a safe containing the incriminating footage.

Gary Harvey, another of Mystikal's attorneys, showed detectives an affidavit dated July 4 and signed by the woman saying she had consensual sex with the three men.

However, according to the police report, the woman told investigators six days later that Harvey deceived her into thinking "the case had been jeopardized, therefore making her feel compelled to sign the affidavit," and that she still wanted to go forward with the charges.

Mystikal and cohorts are facing a life sentence if convicted of the aggravated rape charge. The extortion count carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

Despite the arrest, reps for the rapper say his concert appearances for July and August will go on as scheduled.

He is scheduled to be arraigned in August.

Destiny's Child has made nice with the stepchildren.

Original members LeToya Luckett and Latavia Roberson, who left the R&B group in a huff two years ago, have settled their federal lawsuit against Beyoncé Knowles & Co. over a lyric in Destiny's Grammy-winning hit "Survivor."

In a joint statement Wednesday, the current and former Children acknowledged that "they have amicably resolved all of their outstanding differences and agreed to end all litigation." Details of the settlement are being kept all in the Destiny's family, however.

The suit, filed in February, accused the group and Sony Music of defamation for the alleged song slight and breach of contract for violationg a previous settlement reached when the two singers left the group in 2000. The complaint sought unspecified damages.

Luckett and Roberson were ticked over the line: "You thought that I'd be stressed without you/But I'm chillin'/You thought I wouldn't sell without you/Sold 9 million."

The pair claimed claimed the lyric caused them irreparable harm and also flouted the earlier agreement that forbade either side from dissing the other in public. Luckett and Roberson also accused the current members of Destiny's of making "deliberate and disparaging, defamatory factual misrepresentations" about the ex-singers while promoting the Survivor album in April 2001.

The "Survivor" track so offended Luckett and Roberson that they asked the court to bar the tune from being played on the radio or performed in concert by Destiny's Child.

Beyoncé Knowles, who cowrote "Survivor," insisted the song wasn't about her ex-bandmates, but rather was aimed at the naysayers who didn't believe the Houston-based trio would ever achieve stardom.

"I've had people from school who said we weren't going to make it. We had a label that dropped us," Knowles told the Associated Press. "For me, I have no problems with anybody...I was 17 when [Luckett and Roberson left]. It was a long time ago...It's silly."

The bad blood traces back to 1999, when Luckett and Roberson reportedly became unhappy with their treatment by Matthew Knowles (Beyoncé's father and guardian of the group's Kelly Rowland), who took control of the group after their original manager died in 1997.

The two singers became independent women the following year, after the completion of the group's prophetically titled second album, The Writing's on the Wall. They were replaced by Michelle Williams and Farrah Franklin, who suddenly turned up in the video for "Say My Name" even though they didn't perform the song on the album. (Franklin dropped out a few months later, leaving DC with its current lineup.)

Luckett and Roberson sued the band and Matthew Knowles, eventually agreeing to an out-of-court settlement that stipulated neither side make "any public comments of a disparaging nature." They each reportedly pocketed $850,000 and relinquished all claims to Destiny's Child.

As for their latest lawsuit--which just happened to be filed on the same day as the Grammys ( news - web sites) when Destiny's Child won Best R&B Performance by a Duo/Group with Vocals for, yes, "Survivor"--the ex-members say the settlement proves they did the right thing.

"They are happy at this point to put it all behind them," Warren M. Fitzgerald Jr., the attorney representing Luckett and Roberson, tells the Associated Press. "They do feel vindicated by the course of action they took."

Destiny's Child, meanwhile, remains on temporary hiatus after near constant touring and recording over the past three years. The break is giving the members time to pursue outside projects. Beyoncé makes her big-screen acting debut Friday costarring with Mike Myers' as the shagadelic Foxxy Cleopatra in New Line's Austin Powers in Goldmember.

And what kind of destiny is fated for Luckett and Roberson? The singers are now hoping people say their name as they try to get their careers rolling again with a group called Angel.

Glad to hear that DC and the former members reached some sort of agreement. About time :)

Now back to ignant azz Mystikal - he better hope that while in prison Big Bubba won't make him "Shake His Azz" and show Bubba what he's working with :mad:

Shaquille gets into low-income housing
 

DENVER (AP) — Shaquille O'Neal (bro: diesel) has worked out a nearly $100 million deal to buy housing intended for thousands of lower-income Colorado residents.

The Los Angeles Lakers center is a general partner with American Housing Preservation Corp. of Portland, Maine, to buy 21 communities from an investor and developer of affordable housing.

The communities are in Denver, Pueblo, Buena Vista, Fort Lupton and Canon City.

"My dream is to own $1 billion a year in affordable housing," O'Neal said Monday.

"It's a 'Shaq-sized deal,'" said Michael Liberty, chairman and founder of American Housing. "Shaq is now the biggest landlord in the country," he said.

O'Neal and his uncle and business manager Mike Parris began investing in real estate about four years ago in New Jersey, where O'Neal once lived in the projects before his father joined the Army.

"We started buying homes out of foreclosure and paying $10,000 or $12,000 for them, fixing them up, and maybe selling them for $25,000 or $35,000," O'Neal said.

"It would be easy for me to develop a housing community around a golf course or buy strip malls, but that's not how I want my book to go."

They are currently involved in a bitter custody dispute over their two children. Pamela claims Tommy gave her Hepatitis C and now she has to take a year off to recover.

Singer Eric Benet is sporting a new look. While in Rehab for sex addiction Eric cut off his locks. Eric is pulling out all the stops in an effort to save his marriage to Actress Halle Berry. There's talk that the two want to have a baby and they are currently undergoing couples counseling. Their sessions cost $4500 a session but they feel it's worth it to pay the cost if it going to save their marriage.

She was good to him why did he have to go there. Angie is having a hard time with love right now. She is probably too giving. Angie used to be involved with Singer D'Angelo and they have a young son. That romance went sour too. Let's hope Angie finds love soon. She is a very talented and nice lady.

~ The National Enquirer is reporting that they have a tape of O.J. Simpson confessing to killing his ex-wife Nicole. The tabloid is alleging that some drug lords hired a bar girl to trick Simpson into talking about the 1994 killing. They claim the girl was wired and that Simpson was high. Details will be in the upcoming issue of the infamous supermarket rag.

This confuses me. I don't believe for a second that Diana Ross really sits down once a month with a checkbook and a stack of bills and pays everything. Doesn't she have "people" who do that stuff for her....financial manager? She's worth $77mill. Dang.

LOL. Now, having those "financial managers" is what got Toni and other folks in trouble. Remember, Oprah gave someone the advice to handle your OWN affairs. This is probably why Diana is STILL worth $77 million. (It didn't hurt the fact that she married BIG this last time either.)

ASHANTI DISAPPOINTS IN JAMAICA: Lady of Soul Awardee doesn't deliver on stage, but she says being sexy is a good thing.

(Aug. 5, 2002) *Our man in Jamaica, Kevin Jackson, reports that Ashanti made her debut performance in the island nation recently, at Reggae Sumfest's International Night.
The reggae festival featured performances from Bob Marley's son Damian "Junior Gong" Marley, (this year's Grammy award winner for Best Reggae Album), as well as Ja Rule and other reggae acts.

Ashanti was disappointing to say the least. Not only CAN'T she dance, but girlfriend really can't sing, Jackson said. A lot of press folks have been bitching and asking, "What's all the hype on this sister, if she can't deliver?" After 3 songs, she left the stage. Her labelmate Ja Rule delivered the goods and had the crowd begging for more.

The following night, Ashanti and Ja Rule performed at the annual beach bash Fully Loaded, in St. Catherine, where Ja Rule energized the crowd with his hits. Ashanti again was a disappointment, however, the crowd seemed to appreciate her song "Foolish" more than anything else.

In other Ashanti news, the singer has spoken out about her sexy photos and posters. She told German magazine Speigel Online, "I find sexy pictures erotic. And I love it when men find me erotic and I can boost their sex lives through my pictures... Why not?" she said. "Sex is not a bad thing, after all."
