when people say that they have a code
does that mean that i have one
i want to give one to my friend who is a SK
and she wants to get on
but i don't know anything about codes
which is why i just padi for a membership

if you paid for a membership, you most likely have a code hidden there somewhere to give away.

on the main page just click on "Invite Friend" or something like that ( i'm not sure what the link actually says ) and then there's a button the says "generate codes". So it makes the codes, you give it to your friend..and she gets a free account.

Its that simple :D

why do i keep having so much trouble with uploading the page
i keep getting a 'software aborted' message
or 'network caused' something else that irritates me

Go there. It tells you all about whats going on. The servers have been off and on for the past week because they've made a lot of changes to the code, etc. It'll be up and running eventually :)

I got an LJ account a few weeks ago thanks to some GCers :)

My name is Sphinxgurl :) I love to have friends. I've become fairly addicted to it...hehehe

LJ is an online journal site where you can comment on other people's entries. It's a lot of fun and an easy way to keep in touch with people over the summer! :D

Is it no longer possible to be able to edit past entries?

I'm trying to make mine 'friends only' and when I try to edit by clicking 'last 20 entries', and then selecting which one I want, and then clicking the enter button, Enter doesn't do anything? :confused:

I can only edit the very last post I made, and that's not the one I'm trying to change!

Check under LJ FAQ, theres a way to fix that. It has something to do with your preferences, lemme see if I can remeber it.

Go under 'Your Info' or whatever, where you change your profile -

Go to the bottom, and to "Auto Convert Older Entries From"

Make sure it says "Western European (Windows)"

Is there a way to merge to LJ's together? I have an old, journal that I'd like to merge into the journal I've been using for the last year. Is this possible?

This is the closest thing I've found to merging journals - you would have to do a lot of cutting/pasting. You could post on the FAQ board on LJ, they probably know a lot more about this than I do!

A question for all you LJ types: I use Diaryland right now, but I really like the "comments" feature and the communities on LJ, so I'm thinking about switching. The only thing that's stopping me is this: how much control does a user have over changing his/her template? On Diaryland you can change it however you want by editing the HTML, but I haven't seen as much variation on LJ and I can't figure it out from the FAQs.
Basically, can free account LJ users freely change their templates, or are there restrictions? Does it make a difference if you have a paid account?

I'm pretty sure that with livejournal, you can only edit the layout if you have a paid account. If you have a free account, you have to use one of their previously designed layouts (there are about ten). You can change the colors to anything you want with the free account, although it takes a bit of experimenting to figure out which color goes where.

I have a free account, and though I didn't drastically change my layout, I was able to change the backgrounds and fonts via the Style Override option. The CSS codes let me do that.

Thanks for the info. I wan't able to find anything more about merging, so I just cut and pasted. There weren't too many entries in the old one, so it wasn't too tedious.

I read about that somewhere on the site, I think...it seems like basically you can change the font / color / background, but you can't change the actual layout of the diary?
What are CSS codes? I use basic HTML to change the layout of my diary, are CSS codes something similar?
BTW, I like the background on your diary, very pretty. :)

I've seen some journals that have 'borders' and things like that, but I'm not sure if they are free or paid accounts

What kind of layout changes are you trying to do? I have a paid account, but I changed mine by doing it the way you can do it with free accounts because I found it much easier. I moved the text to one side and stuff, but it's still one basic layout style (generator). I have an LJ friend who does a lot of layout stuff, so if you get an account she may be able to help you. Also, I found the community "howto" very helpful, so you may want to check that out sometime. Good luck!!

I'm just curious.... I think I would like to try one for fun, but I don't know which one to use

Yes...I have LJ for Windows, according to the blurb. It's really nice because it's easier to edit things and entries don't get lost when the server goes down. It also simplifies a lot of HTML (bold, italic, links) and makes working with different journals easier.
