Ok, I have a little Convention questions for you ladies....

I'm trying to figure out the cost for Convention, and what I can conceivably afford considering my zero income and school and everything....but I reeeeeeally want to go, and am pretty much set on going, I'm just hoping there is some less expensive way that I am missing.

So my question is, if, for instance, I just wanted to attened the banquet and Initiation & the other rituals on the second day, would I still need to pay $260 for the day? I see on the registration form that we can reserve a spot at the meals, but that's it. Sigh...

I really want to go but, man, this is pricey! Oh well...
(Donielle, you'll probably get an email from me soon....we need to get our little posse togther so we can discuss)
Anyway, if anyone has any info based on past Conventions about registering for specific events, I'd love to hear it!
Thanks!

AGDee 02-11-2004 07:51 AM

I would email Deanna at dconaty@alphagammadelta.org and ask her if you attend the Epsilon Pi banquet, if you can go to the events following it as well.

I am assuming this is the other Wendi... I get so confused!:D

greeklawgirl 02-16-2004 02:05 PM

Yes, you are correct. It is waaaay too confusing having 4 Wendy/i girls on this board! ;)

Taualumna 02-16-2004 11:00 PM

OK, I'm officially officially going to convention. I just received an email regarding the fashion show! :) I hope I'm not too small and the clothes fit.

LOL you're too much. I made a Costco run yesterday and brought back tubs of ice cream and gigantic boxes of cookies and candy...ugh.

I told myself that I was going to try and lose some weight before Convention so I could fit into my original Initiation white muumuu. I have a feeling that won't happen.

I wanted to be a convention model, but they asked for size 6 and below. Oh well.

Convention Cost

We voted on paying for members to go to Convention in EC just this past week and from what I remember it's around 800.00?? 600-800 I know and that's probably not for transportation because Chicago is only 4 hours away from us. Hope this helps--I'm new to this!

AGDLynn 02-19-2004 10:06 PM

Welcome!

Have you done the Roll Call thread yet?

Yea, the cost of convention will definitely depend on if you are staying at the hotel and how many roommates you want/can find, lol.

See ya!

GtownGirl98 02-20-2004 09:49 AM

So the whole convention is not going to be feasible this time but I was thinking about making the trip for Epsilon Pi night... has anyone done this before... could you tell me what you thought about this option. Chicago is only 6 hours from me and if I can talk the boy into making the trip or even my mother maybe then I wouldn't have to make the trip alone... plus I maybe able to get my mother to flip the bill with me!

IheartAGDandAPD 02-24-2004 01:52 PM

Convention!

Hello Ladies! My name's Kelly and I am new to this board, I am a member of the Zeta Gamma Chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta, and the Vice President of Recruitment. I am 90% sure i will be at convention, and I can tell you that I dont think I've ever been so excited about something in my life! I look forward so much to meeting new Alpha Gams! Yay AGD!

GtownGirl98 02-24-2004 02:28 PM

Okay if you were going to attend only one dinner which would it be... EP or Feast of Roses? Also does anyone know if the after events are included in the cost of dinner?

AGDZO Susan 02-24-2004 04:59 PM

After the Epsilon Pi banquet is Initiation and Honor of Epsilon Pi ceremonies. There is no cost to attend the ceremonies after the banquet. There's nothing after Feast of Roses (the Living Circle is at the end of Feast of Roses) as that concludes Convention.

I guess it depends on what you're looking for will drive your decision on which to attend. Both are very special in their own rights!

GtownGirl98 02-24-2004 05:24 PM

Thanks Susan, I wish I could flip the bill for it all... my mom and I just got off the phone. We are talking about maybe coming up, with my 14 year brother, and staying there one night and then going on up to Machinaw Island for a few days... she would be the only paying for most of that... so I was trying to think of which dinner and events afterwards that I would like to attend.

I guess it will all depend on what job I have closer to time and if I can take additional days off from that job.

Okay, so this convention isn't even here yet and I am wondering (since I won't be able to attend this one, at least the whole event) where the next will be... I know that it will be kept on the dl till after this convention but let us speculate!

I'm thinking that it will stay in the Midwest/Eastern US... so maybe Houston or Dallas?

AGDLynn 02-24-2004 07:56 PM

Thanks to AGDee, I found out that there is the possibility that inactive alumnae chapter funds could be used to pay convention expenses for chapter advisors.

I got a great response back from IHQ which of course led me to send another email because I am mathematically challenged, lol.

TO IHQ STAFF: Please be patient with us:D

BTW, price for four to a room is $715.00 per person. If you subtract the early bird discount it is $665.00. (Early bird = 3/1/04).

GtownGirl98 02-25-2004 09:52 AM

If I didn't have other expenses my tax return would cover cost then...

For all who have student loans... they really aren't that bad because you get a whole lot back in taxes! YEAH... I like to think of taxes as a very expensive savings account... I put in and get a little back.

DWAlphaGam 02-26-2004 12:46 PM

I don't know if you guys saw this yet:

What to Wear at Convention 2004

It's very helpful! I think I may be attempting to find a new Initiation dress over the next few months...currently, I wear a white skirt that falls just below my knees to my chapter's Initiations, but I think I may want to try to find something fancier for Convention Initiation. Plus, it's always nice to have an excuse to go shopping! ;)

AGDee 02-26-2004 08:33 PM

Filled out my form and made my train reservations! I'm so excited!! (Thank goodness for tax refunds though!)

Dee

DeltaBetaAGD 02-26-2004 09:26 PM

Getting so excited! :) Have my flight reservation and my registration done already.

DWAlphaGam 02-27-2004 12:54 PM

Just faxed in my form! :D YAY for Convention!!!! :D :D :D

greeklawgirl 02-27-2004 02:52 PM

I booked my flight and am faxing my reservation Monday morning! :) I can't wait for July!

AGDee 02-27-2004 09:45 PM

I hope their fax isn't busy all day Monday! I have to fax mine then too since I stayed home with a sick kid today.

Dee

AGDLynn 02-27-2004 10:29 PM

Well, I won't be one of those faxing on Monday. Still waiting on financial figures from others. But I am definitely going to Convention!:)

ETA: Never mind...things changed again, lol. Will fax in reg. Monday!

ETA2: FYI..just made Airtran reservations out of Atlanta..$178.70 round trip! When I checked last week, it was like $122 one way without fees.

ET3. FAXED!:D

DeltaBetaAGD 02-28-2004 02:23 PM

Good fares from LA - Maria and I are flying together and we got our flights for $171.00. :D

SO.
NOT.
FAIR. :(

I figure it's going to cost me at least $500 to get my butt there. And that's just getting my butt there.

DWAlphaGam 03-01-2004 10:34 AM

Wow, $171 is a great deal from LA! I got my tickets for $175 from Philly. Yay for Southwest Airlines! :)

These next 4 months are going to take a looooong time!

AGDZO Susan 03-01-2004 12:53 PM

but it'll go fast once you try on your Initiation dress and realize it doesn't fit...then you need to run around and find a new one! Good thing is white/offwhite dresses are now going on sale since prom/wedding season is starting to hit!

And don't forget to make sure your beautiful gown for Feast of Roses fits as well as finding a beautiful outfit for the Gala! Oooh, then there's shoes, matching purses, and jewelry! Time will fly!

greeklawgirl 03-01-2004 01:15 PM

Husband is being sent to Kinko's to fax the registration in as I type!

I drummed it into his head: You MUST get this in today! You MUST get it in today! :D

My chapter had Initiation yesterday (yay for 4 new baby squirrels! :)), so my white skirt definitely still fits. However, it is the most unflattering and hideous piece of clothing ever, and I am planning on trying to find a nicer dress for Convention. hmmm...maybe I will go malling this weekend to try to find something. :)

People really wear gowns for Feast of Roses? I may have to warn my Convention crew about that...we're not exactly gown-type girls! :p

I'm feeling poorer by the moment! Maybe I'd better get that fabric from the basement and start sewing!

greeklawgirl 03-01-2004 07:42 PM

Darling Hubby faxed in my registration this morning! Yay! I'll have to give him extra big hugs tonight. :)

AGDLynn 03-01-2004 07:58 PM

Yea I "borrowed" hubby's office fax since I haven't figured out how to use my pc to fax.:D

Saved $3 by not faxing from Office Max!:p

Ohhhh yeah. At the 2001 Convention I took pix of our "older" sisters in their beautiful gowns to show to those who couldn't go. Some sisters choose to be really frilly, while some still look elegant in a simple "recycled" formal dress.

I'm still getting things figured out as far as my Convention plans go, so no faxing the info today...but it's okay. Mom said she'd pay the extra $$$. Go MOM (she kinda owes me a favor).

squirrely girl 03-01-2004 10:01 PM

mine was faxed this afternoon!!!!

marissa

AGDLynn 03-02-2004 10:48 AM

Hubby said that he was going to stop by bank to transfer funds from checking to savings for Con:D I'll mention later that amount didn't cover airfare and new clothes;)

AGDLynn 03-02-2004 04:14 PM

Feast of Roses Banquet - I seem to remember that they wanted chapter members to sit together in Atl. On the website, it said that seating must be reserved when you get to the hotel??

Yea, I know it's 5 months away, lol. ;)

AGDZO Susan 03-02-2004 07:16 PM

You reserve seating for Feast of Roses once you get to Convention!
