If I didn't go ASA on campus I would have to say I most get along with the DZ's next.

On other campuses I like: Tri-Delta & Kappa

opaldragon 04-12-2003 06:08 PM

If Alpha Xi Delta hadn't been on campus, I probably would've gone Alpha Delta Pi. I get a really good vibe from those ladies. But ultimately, it's about the GLO that I chose and chose me - Alpha Xi Delta.

AOIIalum 04-12-2003 07:38 PM

At my college: Kappa Delta

At any of the other schools I was seriously considering: AOII (a chapter at all 3 schools!), Phi Mu, or Tri-Delta.

Zeta~ definitely

alphaiota 04-12-2003 08:11 PM

if i didn't have sigma kappa (which i don't anymore at miami) i would have wanted to be a kappa mostly b/c my great grandmother was a kappa and they are one of the top sororities at miami u. and the girls in that chapter are really cool

sigma k

mu_agd 04-12-2003 08:11 PM

Alpha Phi.

It was really close between that and Alpha Gam for me.

AAgammagirl 04-13-2003 09:46 AM

I didn't go through formal rush, so it's even harder for me to choose anything other than Gamma Phi Beta.
On my campus, my 2nd or 3rd choices would have been AOII or KKG, b/c they usually go for the same type of girls my chapter goes for during formal rush.
Off campus, I think i would go with Kappa Alpha Theta or Delta Gamma.

enlightenment06 04-13-2003 02:15 PM

I wouldn't have wanted to a be part of any other organization. I joined Alpha for very specific reasons which, like Sahara said, made me not want to join other orgs. If I had joined another org I don't think I would have been truly happy cuz I'd know that I settled for less.

enlightenment06 04-13-2003 02:24 PM

hey I gotta question, how many people considered or would consider now (hypothetically) joining an org from another council? For example, how many NIC or NPC people considered NPHC or NALFO or multicultural orgs, and vice versa?

My freshman year I went to a rush event (don't remember which frat it was) but it was really just to get some free pizza and watch the Simpsons. The were cool guys and I was really surprised at how friendly they were to me. I was kinda expecting someone to be like "hey what's that black guy doing here?" However I was looking for a network of strong black men which led me to Alpha. Okay, there's my piece. Anyone else?

breathesgelatin 04-13-2003 02:48 PM

Chi Omega or KKG!

chitownxo 04-13-2003 03:42 PM

On my campus (WIU) when I was there (late 80's, early '90's) - Delta Zeta or Sigma Kappa. I also liked a lot of the girls who helped charter Phi Sigma Sigma, so that would have been an option too.

Other schools, Kappa Delta, Gamma Phi Beta, or Kappa Beta Gamma. My mom was a KBG at Loyola Chicago in the early 60's, so it would have been cool to share that with her.

gphiangel624 04-13-2003 05:31 PM

If I had to be in another chapter on my campus, I'd be a Kappa, without a doubt. My best friends is a Kappa, I love the girls that I know, their chapter is extremely similar to mine (i.e. in numbers, the kinds of girls we take, the diversity, scholarship, history on our campus-we're the two oldest chapters- etc, etc, etc). So many of my sisters are close to theirs and a lot of us have this running joke that we're combining our chapters into "Kappa Kappa Gamma Phi Beta." What's funny is that Kappa was the first house I dropped during formal rush 3.5 years ago, but I LOVE them now (not as much as my sisters though!).

If I was on another campus, I'd have to say ADPi. One of my greatest friends is an ADPi and I love their history, the attitudes of the girls I know, and I have a lot of respect for the ADPis I know.

Actually one of my friends left SDT a few years back and just crossed Lambda Theta Alpha. In seeing her go through her pledge process I really gained a lot of respect for a sorority I unfortunately didn't know enough about before. The Lambda Ladies truly do carry themselves as true ladies and I really respect that; and at the same time know how to really get down and have fun!!! I'd have to say that if I knew then what I know now, I would have at least gone to some of their rush parties!

sugar and spice 04-13-2003 11:11 PM

On my campus, I can see myself as a DG, a Theta or an Alpha Phi, as they all have some similarities to my chapter in the type of girls we attract.

I transferred from University of Minnesota after spending a year there, and if I had rushed there, I probably would have been an Alpha Gam, or possibly a DG or a Gamma Phi Beta. From what I've seen, Alpha Gamma Delta at Minnesota is very similar to my chapter of Tri Delta here at Wisconsin. :)

At other campuses: I have a soft spot for Pi Phi, Kappa, Sigma Kappa and Alpha Xi Delta.

CardinalSM 04-13-2003 11:30 PM

If you had asked me this during rush, I would have said ADPi, but now that I have been around the other sororities for a year, I would say that if Chi O didnt exist at Mercer, I would want to be a Phi Mu. I am friends with so many of them, and their chapter is very similiar to ours. During rush though I would have never ever have said Phi Mu. Now, although ADpis are wonderful girls, I know I would not be happy there. Of course, I wouldn't be as happy anywhere as I am in the Psi Gamma chapter of Chi Omega!

cntryZTA5 04-14-2003 12:45 AM

At my school, my other favorite was Chi Omega. The ZTA's and Chi O's are similar chapters who get along great.

Any chapter: KKG. Pi Beta Phi, or Tri Delta. They seem like very strong organizations nationally.

Bump!
Did this ever happen? lol

GPhiBLtColonel 04-14-2003 01:24 AM

wellll.....I love Gamma Phi Beta so much!

it is the perfect fit for me (service to country being a part of our creed and all!)

But to answer this question, I would have considered Chi Omega as I have TONS and TONS of friends who are ChiOs...or I would have considered Kappa Alpha Theta (my real-life sister is a Theta)

Interesting question!

AOII*Azra-elle 04-14-2003 03:46 AM

I couldn't picture myself anywhere else. BUT, if I hadn't preffed AOII *that's what got me* then probably Alpha Sigma Alpha since we hang out with alot of them and they seem to be really awesome. The other 3 on our campus I'm not so crazy about. But, if I had gone else where probably Phi Mu, Chi Omega, or Tri Delt. I've heard good things about them from the little old ladies I work with!

xo_kathy 04-14-2003 10:17 AM

Well, AXD was second on my pref card. But I decided to rush because of a girl I met on the dance team who convinced me that I could be a smart-ass AND a sorority girl! She was a Chi O and if it weren't for her I probably wouldn't have rushed at all!

ztabchbum 04-14-2003 12:17 PM

I'm a Zeta legacy and on top of that my mom went to the same school and was president of Zeta so this is a somewhat hard question to answer because all I have ever known is Zeta. Going through rush I could sing along with the sisters because my mom sang a lot of the songs to me as a child. :) BUT, if I did not chose a school with a Zeta chapter (by the way, all the schools I applied to had a ZTA chapter - I didn't apply to any schools if they didn't), I would have been a Tri-Delta. I love the girls that were there when I was there - now they're TOTALLY different.

annice22 04-14-2003 12:21 PM

I probably would have joined ZTA or AST because I think they do things that are great for their organization.

Jadey28 04-14-2003 03:11 PM

Oh this question is so easy! My college only has one sorority, and that is Phi Sigma Sigma! So I could've joined them or not joined at all! I must say though, being the only Greeks on campus makes your overall Greek experience pretty wild! I am so happy with my decision. So many of my close friends, including my boyfriend, are direct results of becoming a Phi Sigma Sigma :D

My reasoning is the same. If no SGRho, I would be GDI or I would move to a location where a grad chapter could be found.

I wouldn't have joined any organization. My reasons for wanting to be an AKA are the same for me not wanting to be anything else. I would have either waited until after I graduated and initiated through the grad process, or I would have contacted the powers that be and found out how to initiate while still an undergrad (there are ways).

i don't think i would have gone greek... cal poly has a very VERY small greek system. Chico's is really large but I don't think I would have gone thru with it there and San Jose... well, I'm not sure.

White_Chocolate 04-14-2003 03:36 PM

If we had other choices on our campus, I would have chosen
Alpha Kappa Alpha but there wasn't one on my campus or anywhere for miles out. That's the only organization I wanted to be in but they don't exist and no one from their National ever got back to me.

So, my NPC choices would have been

Delta Zeta
Alpha Delta Pi
Alpha Phi

And if they had been on my campus
Theta Xi Nu or one of the Hispanic sororities

alphagambaby 04-14-2003 05:42 PM

On my campus: Phi Mu- I love the pink!

Not on my campus: either AXO, KD, or XO

I have friends in all of these groups, and I've heard fabulous things about all of them. However, there's really nothing I'd rather be than an Alpha Gam :D

DGMarie 04-14-2003 06:08 PM

I find this thread really interesting

in the fact that of the many of the same GLO's that are mentioned over and over wow. Makes me wonder why so few DG's mentioned? We're a huge group nationally yet relative absent from the wish list. Why is that? (Rhetorical question perhaps).

Peaches-n-Cream 04-14-2003 07:00 PM

We didn't have DG. :(

I received a bid from Alpha Phi, so Alpha Phi. Maybe AZD. They didn't have informal when I rushed, but they were great. :)

amycat412 04-14-2003 07:00 PM

If I had to choose again: DG.

I was always intrigued by Theta and PiPhi at my school as well.

ASTDM39 04-14-2003 08:34 PM

If I wasnt an AST I dont know what I would be! There is only one other sorority on campus and I dont fit in with them. They arent big on sisterhood they just like the name and the title of being in a sorority. SO I am extremely happy where I am!!!

I certainly can't speak for everyone else, but I didn't know anything about DG before college. We didn't have a DG chapter locally, and where I grew up the sororities I heard about were always Kappa Alpha Theta, Kappa Kappa Gamma and Delta Delta Delta. My cousin was a Phi Mu, so that's how I was familiar with them.

None of these sororities were at my school, and when I found AOII I knew I was home. I have no doubt that if I'd gone to another school, I would have chosen AOII without hesitation no matter what other sorority was there. AOII has been instrumental in almost every milestone in my life. I seriously would not be who I am today without making the choice to join my sorority.

But, to be brutally honest--once I learned more about the other chapters at my school, I would have been a very happy Kappa Delta as well. The girls were similar to my own sisters, I was comfortable with their external symbols and mascots, and I had many friends who were KDs.

We've gotta love the internet though. It's great to find so much info about the different groups through their websites! I'm such a sorority geek sometimes :)

Christin

alphaiota 04-14-2003 10:45 PM

well hey, my sorority is mentioned probably even less than DG so don't feel badly.

WhiteDaisy128 04-14-2003 11:24 PM

I thought DG was mentioned quite a bit.

I never went through formal rush. I never was really interested in Greek Life until I heard DG was going to colonize. My mom was a DG and that is all I ever would have wanted...I thought. Turns out all of our chapters are pretty awesome and that my stupid stereotypes might have made me miss out on some fun. But I'm glad it turned out that I waited for DG...it's an amazing sisterhood and an amazing experience.

BUT, if I had rushed, I'm sure I would have gone ZTA. The ZTA girls here are awesome. They have been the biggest welcome for Delta Gamma on the campus.

Off campus, I love Phi Mu. I don't know why, I was just called to explore their web site and wish we had a chapter here at NCSU.

enlightenment06 04-14-2003 11:45 PM

to those who are in an NPC or NIC organization, when you joined was your main goal to join that specific organization or to be greek in general?

alphaiota 04-14-2003 11:54 PM

i'd say neither. i joined b/c of the girls who represented the organization. not b/c of the letters, colors, symbols, etc. and i had zero intention of actually going greek when i first started college.

CarolinaDG 04-15-2003 09:47 PM

I would've preffed DZ and Kappa and chosen from those two... if one was on my campus, though, besides DG, I would've gone AZD, my aunt's sorority.:-)

To be completely honest, when I moved here I didn't even want to go through rush. All I kept thinking was Hell Week and hazing and I didn't like the thought of that. My friend actually dragged me to sign up for rush. She'd done it the year before and said I had nothing to worry about. She was right, and I'm glad I did and I am happy where I am and couldn't imagine myself elsewhere.
