Loyally Kappa 10-04-2015 08:39 PM

Thank you, FSUZeta and OldOleMiss. Fortunately, I live in Oxford and teach at Ole Miss. I was able to meet nolefan's daughter in August when my church had a back-to-school luncheon. I was able to introduce her to a DG who sings in the choir with me. When I found out mom was NOT coming, I decided to start a trend and stand in for her. I've been at bid day at Alabama with my own daughters, along with bid day here at Ole Miss, so I know first hand that it is a party on steroids ... and I would not have been able to live with myself if I let either of them let the day pass without some photos and video.

Hotty Toddy!

Hearttoheart 10-04-2015 09:04 PM

Quota and numbers??

Does anyone know what quota was and how many each chapter took? 142 seems low compared to what they were expecting.

jolene 10-04-2015 09:09 PM

LK, you are fabulous and so sweet. I hope one day we recolonize there. Even my Yankee husband is fascinated with Ole Miss. Lol

I honestly will never be able to properly thank my friend Loyally Kappa for bringing The Grove and Pi Phi and my daughter's joyful smile to me in South Carolina today. She spent hours on a chilly damp Sunday traipsing around with a camera and capturing the memories for me. The photos and video are fantastic and the next best thing to being there. I am truly grateful.

Let's see if I can figure out hot to post them....

nolefan 10-04-2015 09:41 PM

My daughter is the blond on the left. She and a very good friend on her hall both received bids to Pi Phi and are just over the moon. She said the other sorority where she preffed was wonderful and of course she would have been happy there but Pi Phi was where she just felt most comfortable in the end and I hope she will have a lifetime of wonderful friendships there.

Thank you Loyally Kappa, these photos mean the world to me... you are a treasure.

Here she is with the sister who worked very hard all week to make my daughter feel welcome. She made sure my daughter met her roommate and her big sister and went out of her way to speak to her at every party. All that effort and thoughtfulness had a big impact on her week.

My report said that all but Kappa Alpha Theta got quota+. Theta matched 120.

ADPi had a strong recruitment, IMO. I am sure that their fabulous new house was a bonus. It was their second formal recruitment after their re-colonization.

I know some PMNs dropped out after second and third rounds to rush for Alpha Phi. More than 50% of PNMs at Ole Miss are from out of state...from areas where Alpha Phi is very strong and has name recognition.

ladybug12 10-04-2015 09:50 PM

Love those photos of nolefan's daughter....so happy for her!

msbeta 10-04-2015 10:12 PM

I read that Pi Phi got 155 angels.

nolefan-Hope your daughter finds the kind of home at the Pi Phi house that I did!

carnation 10-04-2015 10:17 PM

Yesss! Yay for all these new angels--RING CHING!!!

Hartofsec 10-04-2015 10:19 PM

What a awesome recruitment story -- real time even -- and the photos are truly the cherry on top!

Nolefan, your daughter is just precious. Many congrats to her!

Loyally Kappa -- how wonderful that you stood in and captured these memories for Nolefan and her daughter.

Great story :)

LIXO 10-05-2015 12:04 AM

I just love happy endings! What great pictures! Thank you for sharing- they really capture the festive mood of the day. LK, you were so nice to take these pictures for nolefan. My niece was so happy to receive her bid from ADPi today.

Quick update:

Congratulations to all the girls (OldOleMiss' friend's daughter, LIXO's niece, and nolefan's gorgeous daughter)! I'm glad they all ended up where they are happy, wanted to be, and belong. I wish them all the best sisterhood...more love and friendship than even they are expecting.

Loyally Kappa you are so wonderful to take photos and video for nolefan. You are a treasure :)

My daughter pledged Phi Mu! The best part was to see her so happy in her green headband and pink letter shirt yesterday. I can't believe I'm going to be able to call her my sister. :D I have to wait for her to send me the photos I took on her phone before I can post any.

Off to meet PPP at Big Bad Breakfast! Thanks for the recommendations!

honeychile 10-05-2015 09:06 AM

Congratulations to all new members! May they treasure these memories for a lifetime!

Nolefan's daughter is such a cutie!

jolene 10-05-2015 10:14 AM

Seeing the 'angel wing' hand signs I think I saw some Pi Phis this summer when we went up the Sears, er, Willis Tower. There were some beautiful blondes taking pictures while doing the same hand/angel thing. :D

I'm curious to see how Alpha Phi will do. When do they start recruitment?

Hooray!!! That is the best news!!!! How did I miss that you were a Phi Mu?? ME TOO!!! One of my daughter's closest friends on her hall also pledge Phi Mu, her name is Shelby and she is cute, cute, cute!!! I hope maybe you will come back here and give us some scoop on how she likes her pledge class. I am fascinated with how in the world they set up activities and get these girls together to help them bond as a pledge class and start feeling at home in their new houses (I remember those first couple weeks can be a bit awkward if you're not specifically meeting someone to eat lunch or just hang out together).

PLEASE post a photo :)
Kristy

nolefan 10-05-2015 10:17 AM

Ladybug, thank you for your good wishes for my JB, I can't thank you enough for how welcome you made me feel on this forum and how helpful you've been. I feel blessed to have had the support I've found here and that my girl is beginning her sorority life with such a happy smile on her face. You can't tell, but she is full of happy tears standing in front of the bid day banner at Pi Phi. Makes me so thankful.

Since Pi Phi's convention was in Chicago in June, you probably saw some of the attendees!

From the mom of a Pi Phi, congratulations to the new angels! We just got back from Parents' Weekend at W&L and had a great time at the annual Pi Phi parents' reception. I even wore a Pi Phi sticker.

Congrats to you both! I know she will love it! Our old rush advisor posted some pics of Bid Day on Facebook yesterday. I loved the hot pink bid day jerseys!!!

I wish that we could bottle the happiness and kindness in this thread. :)

aphiadvisor 10-05-2015 12:28 PM

Alpha Phi colony interviews are happening beginning Tuesday. ELCs have been on campus since August I think. Super excited to join the Ole Miss community -- greener grows our ivy!

clemsongirl 10-05-2015 02:29 PM

My rec girl emailed me today to share that she pledged ADPi!! She said in the past that she didn't have any social media so I'm hopeful that she'll send me some pictures I can share:)

Alpha O 10-05-2015 04:24 PM

Congratulations to all the girls on finding their homes! I hope they find joy in their sisterhoods throughout their lives. :)

There are photos of Ole Miss Bid Day at ΔΔΔ, ΑΟΠ, ΚΑΘ, ΠΒΦ, ΑΔΠ, ΚΚΓ, ΔΓ, and ΦΜ in the Bid day thread. Personally, I posted what I could find on social media. Enjoy!

msbeta 10-05-2015 06:30 PM

Bid Day Pics

If you "like" University Photo on Facebook there are loads of bid day pictures, too. I love Bid Day!

LuvMyPNM 10-05-2015 09:35 PM

As enrollment has increased at Ole Miss, only natural that interest in Greek Life would increase. Seems they could use a few more unless they're going to cap enrollment. But enrollment = $.

wsucalsigmakapp 10-06-2015 12:04 AM

A little girl I have known since she was 7 just joined Pi Beta Phi! She is so happy and so excited!!

jolene 10-06-2015 08:15 AM

I can't imagine having 400 members in a chapter. How many sisters do the houses sleep? You'd need a lecture hall to have chapter meeting. lol

Titchou 10-06-2015 10:03 AM

There is a lot of building and adding going on at Ole Miss but I think most are in the 50-65 bed range.

jane9 10-06-2015 10:43 AM

I'm an Ole Miss alumna. Had a few friends with daughters who went through. All fantastic women, with several legacies, who knew active members, etc. I normally just lurk here but had to come out to laugh at the idea that the "number of girls dropping out is in part to look at Alpha Phi". Girl, please. From the few stories I heard the tent talk sounded horrendous. It's always been there but I think I'm just floored at the viciousness of it. Many girls dropped out in favor of being GDI rather than pledge XYZ house.

The stories I've heard from this year make me extremely sad. I have a niece who will be a freshman next year and no way in hell would I let her go to Ole Miss let alone go through Ole Miss rush.

Sorry to be Debbie Downer, just can't stop shaking my head. That's not to say I think greek life is bad in general or at Ole Miss. I think many women wind up with great memories. But the process is beyond messed up (in my eyes) at this school.

magnoliacurious 10-06-2015 12:06 PM

Chapter NM class numbers

Hey irishpipes, I saw (on greekrank, so I can't guarantee this is accurate) that the new member class size for Alpha Delta Pi was 159, Chi Omega 147, Tri-Delta 150, and Delta Gamma 160. I think the NM sizes for Alpha Omicron Pi, Kappa Alpha Theta, Phi Mu, and Pi Beta Phi have already been given on this thread. Does anyone know and if so, would they mind sharing the numbers for Kappa Delta and Kappa Kappa Gamma? Just curious.

You were "floored at the viciousness of it" but here you are, spreading the ugliness yourself.

Oh my.

I disagree with you. It's not the process, it's the entire culture, perpetuated by alumnae and actives alike. Frankly, my dear...

DubaiSis 10-06-2015 01:07 PM

The huge number of dropouts? Did I miss something between massive drop outs at a school with not realm of enough chapters and pledge classes of 150+? I wouldn't spend one second worrying about the number of girls who are too precious to accept anything except the 1 or 2 chapters they deemed worthy. And FYI, Alpha Phi are pros at colonizations and reading between the lines. Those princesses are NOT shoo ins to the colony.

Those special snowflakes will missing out on a great opportunity to be part of something fabulous--the Ole Miss Greek system and an old and treasured sisterhood. Sort of sounds like those girls who got cut from the Alpha Xi colony rush process and got bitter and starting crap on GR.

Just interested 10-06-2015 03:45 PM

I assume KD pledged quota but I don't know how many. I just know they pledged 14 Texas girls which makes me happy.

Y'all. Take a deep breath. I do not support "special snowflakes" dropping out or being "too good" to pledge any house.

Agree that the process is the entire culture. I'm not really sure why y'all think I'm spreading rumors. These are actual stories that have been relayed to me.

That's great that Alpha Phi are pros at colonization. I honestly think its great that there will be more houses on campus. My comment about people dropping out in order to look at Alpha Phi wasn't a dig at Alpha Phi (although I understand how it could have been taken that way). It was more that the stories I heard --and yes my sample size is small, was that several PNM's were so discouraged by recruitment that they felt it was best for them to drop out of the system. Not because they are "too good" for XYZ house but because they don't want to be a part of a system that they were shown.

Whatever. Have fun.

Alpha Xi is not colonizing. Alpha Phi is. They have not even started their rush yet, just preliminary interviews.

It sounds like Jolene was commenting to DubaiSis about an Alpha Xi colonization elsewhere that they are familiar with -- not the Alpha Phi Ole Miss colonization.
