I am considering a third one, too! How about you all come out to Maryland, I'll put you up in my spare rooms, and we'll have a ladies day out. You know: shopping, lunch and the tattoo parlor! :)

This sounds heavenly!

DaffodilDarling 03-04-2003 01:24 PM

I plan on getting my sorority flower -the daffodil tattooed on my ankle, with my letters in its leaves. Simple, yet sophisticated.

...it is especially associated with the Celtic tribes.

These symbols are called triskele or triskelion.

The Triskele is used to symbolize the cycles of life with in the three fold, or three spheres of influnce in the material world.
The three spheres (Land, Sea and Sky) represents the three aspects of the material world that are contained in every object. Each aspect ever flowing outward and always returning to the point from which it started.

I've also heard it represents the union between the past the present and the future...

Am thinking in a brown-amber color on my lower back 2-3inchess wide/up-down.

Thoughts?

My sister had a henna tattoo of a Celtic symbol that is slightly more ornate than the tattoo that you want. She kept saying that she wanted a tattoo, but she was afraid so henna was the best option for her. She didn't like it and washed it away. I say try the henna first. If you like it, you can always get a permanent tattoo. If you don't like it, no harm done.

BTW, are you Irish? I have not heard of anyone who isn't Irish getting a Celtic symbol tattoo. If you aren't, prepare yourself for people thinking you are. Not that the whole world will have access to your lower back. :)

Ahhh, no, no, no. As much as I want to, I can't. No, no, no. Thanks for the offer though.Try catching me on a spontaneous day. :)

Yes, I am Irish. Well half Irish, half French. My French last name means the sea, so I like that part of the symbol as well.

Was thinking I may try henna first, but then again, I may just jump in. My thinking is, lower back, its not like its right out there for me and everyone to see, so I think I would not regret it as I might one in a more obvious place...

CutiePie2000 03-05-2003 01:54 AM

Here's an example of why one should not get the FACE tattooed....OMG

Peaches-n-Cream 03-05-2003 01:02 PM

Where can I get my face tattooed?

DAMASA,

Amycat, just don't put it on your face. lol!
Good luck! That symbol will look really good on your lower back.

amycat412 04-14-2003 01:40 PM

Well.. I DID IT!!!!

Saturday was my birthday, so I decided that was as good a time as any to do it.

I LOVE IT! I am actually surprised how much I love it. Its about 2 1/4" X 2 1/4" on my lower back. I had them do it in a deep amber color.

I'll post pic soon.

So my question to all of you w tattoos--how long do I have to keep putting the ointment on it, and when will it stop stinging?

Peaches-n-Cream 04-14-2003 01:56 PM

Oh yeah!!! I can't wait to see the pictures of your new tattoo. :)

Jadey28 04-14-2003 02:57 PM

AmyCat...

Congrats on your tattoo. I put ointment on mine for about two weeks and I think it stopped stinging after a week (maybe shorter than that).

I am considering a second tattoo. My first one is a crescent moon with a cloud going through it. There are four little stars outlining the moon also. This one took about 1.5 hours, mainly because of all the detailing and the fact that the colors are really light. (They had to go over them several times before they would take into my skin.)

Anyway, if I get a second one, it's going to be two little dplphins swimming with each other on the top of my foot. My boyfriend made me a candle for my 21st bday with two dolphins playing and he just recently brought me home a dolphin statue thingy from Miami Beach. So, if I got this tattoo, it would be symbolic of our relationship together. And he's going to get a skull and crossbones on his left shoulder with his fraternity brother number beneath the crossbones. (This was my idea, and suddenly his entire fraternity is going to do the same.) I don't know when we are getting these tattoos, but I will keep you guys posted!

AlphaGamDiva 04-14-2003 03:36 PM

i know that i will be getting a tattoo this summer......aug. 21 will be the 3 yr anniversary of my friend luke's death, so i am getting the chinese symbol for "mourned loss"....i wanted to get one for him right after he passed, but my friend david convinced me to wait a while before permanantly marking myself. so, 3 yrs has gone by and i still want it, plus i have known this to be the one for around 2 yrs...so. my problem now is where to put it.......

wreckingcrew 04-14-2003 03:39 PM

Follow this link to a pic of my tattoo.

It's on my left ankle.

Kitso
KS 361 times girls have asked me, "ooo, did that hurt?" and i've been like, "naw darlin, 't weren't nothin"

KappaTarzan 04-14-2003 03:42 PM

:)

kitso- love the tattoo.. i've said it before, but i'll definitely say it again: IT'S HOT!

amycat, congrats! beware of hot water on it in the shower.. wear the ointment religiously until the flakes of skin stop coming off.. a couple weeks usually... a little less sometimes.

texas*princess 04-14-2003 03:42 PM

My older sister and her best friend got matching tattoos one night. They both got martini glasses.. they were soooooo cute! I could never do that though.. I'm a scaredy cat!:p

Schmeer 04-14-2003 04:26 PM

I like tatoos. I have three and they all mean something. One i got with all my friends when we were seniors in high school. One i got when those same friends and i all turned 21. And one i got to remind me of something that i love.

but i don't think i would get anymore. 3 is enough for me.

they are also in spots that i can easily cover- i would never have gotten one if i did not have it covered up for imporant events!!!

valkyrie 04-14-2003 04:38 PM

When I got mine, they said to use ointment for 2 weeks, so I did...the only sucky part is when it gets all over your clothes. If I remember correctly, I applied it every few hours.

Mine really stopped stinging by the next day. That's usually how long it takes for me to want to get another one, LOL!

SATX*APhi 04-14-2003 04:50 PM

Serenity 04-15-2003 07:17 PM

AmyCat, congrats!!!

I just got my second one (April 3) to celebrate 10 wonderful years with my honey. I think three (maybe four :D) may be my cut off number.

I FINALLY GOT MY A-PHI TATTOO!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll just go ahead and post what I posted in the A-Phi forum.

---------------------------------------------------

I just walked in the door from getting my second tattoo!!! Picture the new member badge. (It is an ivy leaf with the letter A on the left side of the leaf and the letter Phi on the right side of the leaf.) Go to http://www.creighton.edu/AlphaPhi/symbols.html and scroll about half way down. The badge is pictured on the right had side and is silver. Okay, that's what I got, although the ivy leaf is maroon and the A - Phi letters are not colored (they are my skin color). It is prettttttty!!!!!!! Oh yeah, I got it on my foot, about mid-way between my pinky toe and my ankle. It is at a 45 degree angleand is the size of about a quarter, maybe a little bit bigger. I will have to take a picture and post it.

I am super excited about it!!!!!!!!! I called my big on the way to the parlor and she was giving me ideas, but I know she wasn't taking me seriously. I called after it was over with and she was all excited and congratulated me. I LOVE MY BIG!!!!! She is the best big in the whole wide world. I would never, ever wish for another!!! :D

It wasn't really a "spur of the moment" type of deal, per se. Today at work, around 4pm-ish, I was in this hyper mood and called my biological sisiter and told her that when I got out of work I wanted to go and get a tattoo. Fast-forward to tonight. We were going to go out to a club with a whole bunch of people I work with, but we ended up staying home b/c we were all tired. At 1:30am, my sister busted out with, "So let's go and get your tattoo." I got the pictures, and we took off. The rest is history! :D

Ohhhh, I am so excited you all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D

I used to think about the pain of getting a tattoo. . .that is until I got mine. I'm such a wimp that I cried before he started the tattoo. Mine is my name in script on my lower back. It wasn't really painful but rather an annoying feeling. By the time it started to really annoy me thet tattoo was already done. I'm thinking of getting my second in honor of my graduation from college next month.

blueyzgirl 04-20-2003 01:43 AM

I have no tatoos, when I was like 16, sometimes I would think that'd make a good tatoo...but I honestly have never really wanted one.

I like what Ozzy said..."You want to be unique? Don't get a tatoo!"

SATX*APhi 04-21-2003 11:20 AM

I DID IT!!!!

My butterfly tattoo wasn't finished and I'd been dreading having to go back and get it finished, as it's a huge mo' fo'. Sooo, after randomly deciding last night to go get it finished, I went to the parlor (the only one open last night, btw) and I got it finished. It took almost two hours, but it's beautiful!! I love it!! I will be taking a picture of it soon and posting it. I'll be sure to post a link for all the GC'ers. I love my new tattoo!! :D

Lady Pi Phi 04-30-2003 04:16 PM

I have a questions for the tattoo experts. I have 2 tattoos. One on my back (middle of my back) and one on my upper thigh. They aren't huge but they are pretty big. I'd say maybe the size of a regular post it note.

I want to get another one (actually I'd like to get a few more...but we'll just get one more for now), but I would like to get it on my ankle. However I don't want to have it too big. I was thining maybe the size of a dime.

here's a picture of the one I want to get, angel tattoo
minus the name and feet (yeah I know's it's not mine but I really like it and I want it to represent Pi Phi with me tattooing my letters).

Is it possible for me to get this done the size of a dime, because if I get my ankle tattooed I want it really small just because I don't like huge tatoos on the ankle

Emily

edited to add:

P.S I hope my post made sense

SATX*APhi 04-30-2003 04:21 PM

Lady Pi Phi:

From what I'm thinking, the size of a dime would be too small. I don't think the writing inside would show up. Someone would have to get all up in your ankle's grill in order to see what it said. I think angel w/o letters, or get it bigger, somewhere else if you have to.

SATX*APhi 04-30-2003 04:23 PM

Here's my butterly tattoo Not really that great of a pic, sorry.

Lady Pi Phi 04-30-2003 04:23 PM

I don't want the writing or the feet, just the angel.

Is a dime still too small?

edited to add:

I really like your butterfly. How big is it?

SATX*APhi 04-30-2003 04:26 PM

Oooh, I thought you wanted your letters in it. How about a nickel? :p

Thanks. :) My tattoo is a little bigger than the size of a slice of bread. It's huge! (Sorry, couldn't think of anything else that size.)

Lady Pi Phi 04-30-2003 04:34 PM

a nickle could work possibly. I just held up every coin I have to ankle (ok I am bored at work and I want to go home...only 40 more minutes). I think a penny and dime are too small. But I don't want it any bigger than a toonie.

I'd guess I have to ask the artist if he can do it that small

SATX*APhi 04-30-2003 04:43 PM

Let me know what happens. :)

valkyrie 04-30-2003 05:21 PM

SATX, your butterfly is GORGEOUS!!!!!! I love it!

LadyPiPhi, what you might want to do is take the design to a tattoo parlor. They can mess around with the size on a xerox machine, and then you can see what size you like and what looks good from far away. When I got mine, they made different size copies so I could put it on my arm and even move it around and look in the mirror to see exactly how big and where I wanted it.

Have fun!!

Optimist Prime 04-30-2003 05:41 PM

I have the badge on my left calf. I want the letters on my right ankle. But first I want a snake wrapped around the lower part of my left leg. And the Libra scales on my lower back.
