brighteyedgirl 01-07-2013 12:20 AM

Thanks guys!

Now I'm just trying to get my phone back from the BOZO who took my smashed, broken iPhone!

Will report back tomorrow.

amIblue? 01-07-2013 12:26 AM

Good luck!

WCsweet<3 01-07-2013 12:38 AM

Good luck!

kateee 01-07-2013 01:02 AM

Good luck, and remember "you will end up where you belong" advice I wish I had listened to and strongly believe in now!! Also I hope you get your phone back!!

DubaiSis 01-07-2013 01:07 AM

Assume you lost your phone and not that it was stolen. People are actually more honest than we tend to give them credit for. Call the phone and/or send it a text asking for it back.

brighteyedgirl 01-07-2013 01:12 AM

I have, Dubai Sis. All day, I've been sending them messages via Find My iPhone. I finally had to file a police report so that my insurance can (hopefully) kick in and/or they can somehow manage to get my phone back to me.

IndianaSigKap 01-07-2013 01:23 AM

Good luck with the phone and bid day. Phone issues are the worst!

LOL - When I went through recruitment - my roommate left her keys in one chapter room first round. They probably fell out of her pocket. (Back before Rho Gams collected purses.) They figured out who left them based on where she was sitting, but it took them hours of her looking for them to figure out how to get them to the Panhellenic Exec to give to her Rho Gam to give to her - because communication with her would have been a violation.

brighteyedgirl 01-07-2013 01:30 AM

Thank you darlings!
I promise my story is all typed up and tomorrow after 5pm, I will add the ending, and then post it!

Thanks for being so supportive!

groovypq 01-07-2013 02:37 AM

Good luck! Can't wait to hear "the rest of the story"! :-)

purplepink211 01-07-2013 10:14 AM

brighteyedgirl 01-07-2013 11:06 AM

Haha join the club chi o cat!

7-8 hours left!!!!

IUgreekmom 01-07-2013 12:58 PM

I feel for you. I went though this day at the same school with my daughter last year. She went to 3 houses for preference and ended up with her second choice. She is SO HAPPY where she is!!! Keep an open mind today!

HQWest 01-07-2013 01:05 PM

Can't wait to read the happy ending!

brighteyedgirl 01-07-2013 01:06 PM

Well there were four rounds for three party yesterday which makes me SO NERVOUS. So many girls were invited back to each house that they needed extra rounds to fit everyone into.

I AM OFFICIALLY FREAAAAAKING OUT.

IUgreekmom 01-07-2013 01:09 PM

Do not freak out. All of us here are pulling for you and are excited to hear your results!

brighteyedgirl 01-07-2013 01:10 PM

Thanks guys....5 hours!

Going to go watch tons of HIMYM now to forget about this.

AZTheta 01-07-2013 01:30 PM

I think there is a collective breath-holding all across the readers of your thread. Wishing you all the best! Get a nap in if you possibly can.

YEAH! I got nervous when I saw new posts.

IUHoosiergirl88 01-07-2013 06:51 PM

Bids have been given out! Good luck to BEG!

kateee 01-07-2013 07:05 PM

OMGosh I can't wait to hear her story! It must have been soooo hard to wait all day for your bid. I remember waiting through two classes for my pref party invites, I was bouncing up and down and practically ran out the door when class was dismissed! I hope all turned out great for you.

camom 01-07-2013 07:47 PM

I hope that no news is good news.

IndianaSigKap 01-07-2013 07:51 PM

It usually is at IU. Three girls from my hometown are going through and one quickly posted on FB her new home. Waiting to see where the other two end up, worried about one.

TriDeltaSallie 01-07-2013 07:55 PM

Hoping no news is good news as well.

(Lane swerve)

The comments have started rolling again on the NPC blog about IU and their horrible placement numbers. So sad. I would never encourage any woman who wanted to be Greek to attend IU. I would do my utmost to talk her out of it.

(End lane swerve)

camom 01-07-2013 07:57 PM

TDS,
My daughter was choosing between IU and another school with a strong, but traditional greek system. Given that she really wanted to be a member of a sorority like her sister and me, she decided on the other school. I agree with you, IU is a horrible system.

IndianaSigKap 01-07-2013 07:58 PM

I could rant about that blog for days, but I will make one succinct comment. Posting on a blog not affiliated with Indiana University will change nothing. If that many people want to see a change, they will have to go directly to the source.

IUHoosiergirl88 01-07-2013 08:01 PM

If you maximize your options at IU, chances are fairly high that you will get a bid. That does NOT mean dropping because you got back 4 chapters you didn't like, that means sticking it out through pref round. A very small number of girls go all the way through pref and don't match. The rest self-select out because they don't want to be in a 'bottom tier' chapter.

DubaiSis 01-07-2013 08:33 PM

Do you know the actual numbers? Oh, if every big school could spell it all out, black and white, like Illinois does, a LOT of misconceptions could be cleared up.

iuforme 01-07-2013 08:42 PM

Click on recruitment, then click on statistics and there are numbers published for last year and the year before.

kateee 01-07-2013 08:45 PM

196 participating in pref and not getting bids? That number seems too high!! I would be heartbroken. :(

DubaiSis 01-07-2013 08:51 PM

To help out others:
2012:

1,720 women registered
890 received bids
252 women were not matched throughout the process
74 released for grades
196 participated in preference round and did not receive bids
504 withdrew themselves from recruitment
Nearly 52% of women registered joined chapters
Average chapter size is 156

These numbers do NOT help in alleviating fears. More than 10% of the girls who register make it all the way to preference and don't get a bid? That's horrendous. And 15% got cut through the week, not including drops or grades? Yikes! Hopefully with the addition of ASA and TPA, those numbers were helped a little, but the withdrawal number might also increase as a result (nothing wrong with them, but the lack of house is going to cause some detractors from the girls who only want the huge house, live in 3 years experience).

That is the number I find completely unacceptable. This is just so wrong.

And the problem is that the IU culture is ALL about the living in experience. This is the number one reason they give for not changing the way they do things. And yet they expect other groups to come on and not have housing. Hopefully ASA and TPA know something we don't because bringing on unhoused chapters on a campus that revolves around housing seems a huge risk.
