That's just my Baby Daddy!

Saw it. Loved it.

I have already proclaimed Mr. Denzel Washington as my next baby daddy!

In all seriousness, The movie was wonderful. I would recommend that everyone go see it and support Denzel and Kimberly who also did a wonderful job!

No doubt...I THOROUGHLY enjoyed this movie.

c&c1913 02-25-2002 10:08 PM

I saw the movie this past weekend as well. It was okay. I was expecting Aaliyah would have a bigger role.

I liked a couple of the songs in the movie.

I must say it was waaaay better than Vanilla Sky (the last movie I saw) was hyped up to be.

NOWorNEVER 02-26-2002 01:00 AM

Good movie

Yes, I must agree...John Q was very good--only was I the only one who noticed that the lil boy had a flat head? Lemme stop

CTHUAY:D ! I was telling my wife the same thing about that boy's head when we were at the movies! I love the character that he tried to portray, but his head did look funny, especially when he was doing those bodybuilding poses. That ish is too funny! Didn't Big Mama Madine teach them girls to shape dem babies heads right after they come out the womb :D ?

CrimsonTide4 03-09-2002 10:22 PM

I just came from my couch seeing my $5 VHS copy of it. Pretty good movie -- not nearly as Ghetto Fabulous as I expected. There was truth to the movie. I liked the closing scene, but for real how many relationships would've let that 10 day thing fly?

Anthony Anderson made that movie. He was really comical and on point with his advice.

ALWAYS GOOD to see MO CHEST :D

I see we are on the same wave length again today. Since it is so cold and windy here I just pulled out some archives from my movie shelf. I LUV me some 2 Can Play That Game. I had a few sorors and friends over to watch it as a Waiting to Exhale party thing. If you have DVD I suggest you watch the Special Features because they have the Real life characters relate to certain situations in the movie. I was tripping off of some of their responses like hmmmmm You can take folks out the ghetto but you can't take the ghetto out of folks!!!!

Steeltrap 03-18-2002 02:58 PM

Hellacious movie

My soror and I, along with her son, went to see John Q on Saturday. Bring your Kleenex -- it's an emotional one. I'm not a parent, but I completely understood the motives of Denzel's character.

It was also chilling for me because I cover healthcare for a newspaper, and I've written about HMOs. So far, I've never seen a hospital administrator as cold-blooded as Anne Heche's character, but I don't doubt that they exist.

AKA2D '91 03-18-2002 05:26 PM

My students, assistant and I watched it in class on Friday. After testing, I decided to let them watch a movie.

The ending wasn't how I had predicted, but it was aight. I was  at that newsbroadcaster. A man trying to get ratings, saying that it was his "White Bronco"

Training Day comes out on video tomorrow. You know I'll be at Blockbuster during lunch break. :D

Bamboozled 03-18-2002 06:47 PM

I had a chance to see this movie over the weekend and I was a bit disappointed. Denzel, as usual, was at the top of his game, but the whole story was just kind of unrealistic to me. I will admit that I was a boo-hooing somebody up in that theater, though. So, for me, the concept gets a thumbs up while the execution gets a thumbs down.

AKA2D '91 03-27-2002 09:13 PM

Question

Did anyone catch BladeII?

techie_girl_44 03-27-2002 09:26 PM

I did...

I saw it, although I didn't want to. I'm not a Wesley fan but I saw it so my spouse would stop pestering me about it.

I liked it but there were parts in it that were kind of cheesy. You could definitely see some elements of the plot coming early into the movie. Then some of the fight scenes looked like they came straight out of Street Fighter Alpha (the video game). The movie was entertaining on a base level but I don't expect for it to be one of the better movies I see this year.

gamma_girl52 03-28-2002 10:22 AM

I'm Gonna...

I'm going to see it tonight actually.

I've heard some good reviews about the film. I loved Blade I so I'm really excited about this one.

AKA2D '91 04-15-2002 10:00 PM

Indiana Jones 4...wthigo?

Now, don't get me wrong. I like me some Harrison Ford, but I saw on CNN Headline News' ticker that Mr. Ford has agreed to play in the flick. Now, Harrison, it's not 1982, it's 2002.

:D

Secretluv 04-17-2002 02:25 AM

I support Harrison

Well, I am a huge fan of the Indiana Jones movies...

So if Harrison Fords wants to continue playing the role. I will support him :D

SeriousAKA 04-17-2002 10:26 AM

I LOVE Indiana Jones and Harrisson Ford!!! Plus Sean Connery will be in this one as well. I can't wait! I'm getting excited just thinking about it!

ClassyLady 04-17-2002 01:53 PM

I liked Raiders of the Lost Ark and I absolutely loved Temple of Doom. But the third Indy movie, with Sean Connery, I did not like at all and I ended up falling asleep on it in the movie theater. So, I really don't know if I'll go see this one in the theaters. But, it might end up being really good because now they have special effects that are twenty times better than they did when the series first started.

Hey Classylady...

I am sorry that you didn't enjoy "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade"- It is my favorite of all. I thought that Sean Connery's performance added more comedy to the film. I also enjoyed the religious background that was provided in the movie. I thought that Connery and Ford complimented each other very well.

I am glad to hear that both actors will be in the upcoming films.:D

thesweetestone 06-11-2002 01:09 PM

The Mexican- with Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts
I still don't know who the mexican is. This is the worst Brad Pitt movie I've ever seen.

I have seen "Sliding Doors" before I found it interesting!

The sixth sense- That is such a good movie. The ending is good.

ZTAMiami 07-01-2002 03:40 PM

Very Bad Things is great!
Kevin Smith is incredibly talented. As I understand it Jay and Silent Bob are now forever silent. :(
I also recommend The Last Supper. Its an indie film with, lo and behold, Cameron Diaz. Very sick, very funny as well.

Steeltrap 07-01-2002 03:49 PM

Here's a vote for The Last Days of Disco. I enjoyed that film -- I seem to love these type of upper-class chronicles.

RHOyal #1 07-03-2002 09:16 PM

My all time favorite movie...

"What Dreams May Come" This is the most poinant, beautiful movie I have ever seen. But I can never find anyone to watch the whole thing with me, they always get lost in the symoblism. :(

***Am I the only one who thinks independent films try extremey too hard? I can't figure out heads or tails in such movies, either that or I am simply bored to tears. Case in point: Trois!!! ***

~RHOyal #1

Steeltrap 07-04-2002 02:42 PM

A couple of more

I saw Mr. Jealousy (featuring Marianne Jean-Baptiste of Secrets and Lies) and Intern last night. Once again, the mind boggles -- HC we aren't doing thoughtful romantic comedies like Mr. Jealousy. Instead, we have crap like Def Jam's How to Be a Player.

To RHOyal #1: I somewhat agree with indie films trying too hard, but remember the audience for such films is perceived to be different than the stereotypical moviegoing public.

Yeah, it came on Comedy Central yesterday. I am not Catholic, but I still thought it was hilarious! Still questioning Alanis Morissette as God though, lol...

Bump/another one

This morning, thanks to the wonder of digital cable with a whole range of HBO, Showtime, Starz, Encore and Cinemax movie channels, I caught "Last Summer in the Hamptons," about a family of actors that has a summer home in the Hamptons (I will make it there before I die. :p)

Good stuff, if you like talky, slightly neurotic, quasi-intellectual, mildly pretentious films, which I do. The elegant actor Roscoe Lee Browne appears as a friend of the lead character.

anyone see REQUIEM FOR A DREAM? that movie was incredible. the story was really sad, gripping and moving. i loved the special effects, too. i saw a little more of Marlon Wayons than i ever thought i would:eek: but it was a deep movie...
two thumbs up!

Steeltrap 12-05-2002 01:50 AM

Robert Altman

Dr. T and the Women. Richard Gere actually did a good job in this, a sendup of big-huhred women from Dallas.

My favorite phrase in the flick is "Women are sacred." I don't remember the rest of it.

Last night, I saw Pret-a-Porter, or Ready to Wear, again. Good film (I love things about the fashion and clothing industry) although it's jarring to see Forest Whitaker as a flamboyant fashion designer.

BabyBlue91 12-05-2002 07:28 PM

Although it comes on HBO periodically, I have missed it for the last time. I am buying my own copy of Basquiat (1996). This movie is about a protege of Andy Warhol. It stars Jeffrey Wright, Willem Dafoe and future Oscar winner Benicio Del Toro.

1savvydiva 12-06-2002 08:24 PM

I really enjoyed the movie Pay it Forward

ZTAMiami 12-09-2002 01:03 AM

I just rented "Y Tu Mama Tambien" translated "And Your Mother Too" It was great! Its a Mexican film that came out someime last year about to teenage boys who go on a roadtrip with the Spanish wife of one of their cousins. Coming of age kinda movie. Beware that there is a lot of gratuitous sex so avoid it if that bothers you.

I LOVED THIS MOVIE!!!!

Also, the short films that were oen the DVD were good!

lil_sunshine 12-09-2002 06:32 PM

My list........

I know that you guys listed these movies already, but I had to post them along with my comments as well....

American Beauty- this movie was really good!!! I thought it was sad what happened to Kevin Spacey in the end. :(

Freeway- I was CTFU the whole movie! Reese Witherspoon was a nutcase (but in a funny way) and when she messed up Kiefer Sutherland and watched him on TV and said, "I can't get it up anymore, but I have a beautiful smile." :D That was classic!!!!!

Usual Suspects- it surprised the mess out of me. I didn't watch the whole thing at first, but my mother convinced me to do so and I thanked her for that sooooo much!!!!

The Sixth Sense- the ending surprised me, but when I watched it again, it all made sense. ;)

Cruel Intentions- now this movie was wild for the night!!!!!!! I was soooo mad at Sarah Michelle Gellar for what she did to those guys, but then again, that was her plan anyway. And revenge was definitely sweet for Resse!!!!!

Silence of the Lambs- this and Hannibal were really great! Hannibal is almost indescribable, but what shocked the mess outta me was when they showed the Top 10 Most Wanted List for the FBI and OSAMA BIN LADEN was on it!!!!!

Thelma and Louise- this is the ultimate chick flick, besides Waiting to Exhale. I could watch this over and over again and not get tired of it.

Kalifornia- Brad Pitt was a madman! And the sex scene with him and Juliette Lewis was insane! I wanted to slap the crap out of him b/c of how he treated Juliette!

Pay it Forward- this movie really touched me b/c I love doing community service. Haley Joel Osment's idea was brilliant, but I'm not sure that I'd do something like that in real life. That would involve a certain level of risk taking that I'm not ready for at this point in my life. If I become wealthy, then I'll think about it.

Those are my rays of light ladies. Until next time!!!!!!!

Kisha 12-10-2002 12:09 PM

Outside of the movies already mentioned,

I would have to add A.I to the list. (Artificial Intelligence). IT was a way out movie. It kept me in "what if" mode.

GroovePhi62 12-10-2002 01:15 PM

I just had to comment!!

I am serious movie buff so some of these movies might not have been seen by all!

Dancing in the Dark

Pink Floyd: The Wall

The Royal Tenenbaums
The absolute best portrayal of how screwed up families are these days. Royal is my man!

Diablo

don't know when or if it will ever come out but if you can get it from the man at the currency exchange (hint!) It will be well worth it.

Exitenz
DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE HIGH OFF OF BARBITUATES
Allegra Geller is some video game guru and she makes this new game where you go back and forth, in and out of the game. catch is the game is plugged into a hole in your spine. whew!

I loved this book. I hope they find distribution soon. I would love to see book to movie transition.

I would go see this film too. I really loved both novels.

Who is going to play Lena? Do they know yet?

Obsure Movies

Greetings,

I am by no means a movie buff, however here are a few of my top choices:

"The Visit"
Starring Hill Harper and Billy Dee Williams
The movie occurs in the visiting room of a jail cell where Hill Harper's charachter has been infected with AIDS (how is never communicated) and he is trying to mend fences with his family. The movie is powerful and well acted. I truly enjoyed this film.

"Like Water for Chocolate"
Foreign film that has all the passion and love that has been lacking in American film for a while. It is not as powerful as the book, yet it is still and awesome interpretation.

"Monsoon Wedding"
It is an Indian film about the marriage of a young girl and all the issues about the family that come along with the planning of the wedding. Very funny!!

"Fire"
Captures the life and struggles of Indian women living India and the frustrations of women living in a loveless marriage.

Peace and Love
