Leslie Anne 09-15-2011 02:41 AM

Yay! Great news. Congratulations to you and wonderful SDT!!!

psusue 09-15-2011 02:53 AM

I'm so happy for you! I loved this thread and even though I can never usually guess chapters or schools, I got this one and was thinking good thoughts for you. I am so happy for you and Sigma Delta Tau. And now for a favorite Dumbledore quote:

"It is our choices that show who we truly are, far more than our abilities."

I'm glad that you've made such good choices and I hope that you continue to do so. I wish you all the best in this journey of sisterhood, thank you for sharing a little bit of it with us.

kaeb 09-15-2011 03:25 AM

yay she finally updated this thread! It's been a challenge not posting in here, not gonna lie. But I'm sooooo happy melindawarren has joined our house! :D

SDT at USC is the place to be!
(how's that for rhyming?)

Talk about the interfering alumnae from hell! I am seriously laughing out loud thinking of it. Yes, I'm 45, no I'm not an SDT, no I've never met her in person, no I've never even visited USC, but how could you not pick her? Are you crazy? I'm calling your national right this minute!

Back to topic, how many new pledge sisters do you have, if you don't mind sharing?

jenidallas 09-15-2011 05:36 AM

What an awesome story with a fantastically happy ending. Congratulations to you... SDT is lucky to have such a creative new sister!!!

IrishLake 09-15-2011 06:31 AM

melindawarren 09-15-2011 10:40 AM

Thank you all! I'm going to miss posting this! But I'm so glad to have found my home. :) psusue, that is one excellent Dumbledore quote. It would also make an amazing signature. :) I wish I had a book of Dumbledore quotes-he really "said" some inspiring things.

That's a good question. I actually don't know the number. :/ kaeb, do you know?

HQWest 09-15-2011 10:55 AM

yes - Congratulations Melinda! What a wonderful story and a great non-traditional ending. Cheers to SDT!

Another Dumbledore quote -
"It matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be."

AZTheta 09-15-2011 11:10 AM

YES!

will email you later, and ellebud too (at last!).

One day, I was sure I'd be picking out my powder blue dress and hat; the next, I was more than confident that I'd have to prepare for a sorting.

Congratulations on a happy ending! Now that Hogwarts' identity is out in the open, what is Beauxbatons code for and is "powder blue" a clue? And can you share how you found out you received a bid? Thanks, good luck, and best wishes.

summer_gphib 09-15-2011 12:31 PM

Congratulations to you and SDT!!! This was a great thread, thank you so much for sharing. I rarely get into these recruitment threads, but I've read every post! You are a wonderful, creative, and thoughtful writer.

33girl 09-15-2011 12:33 PM

Congratulations!!! I hope that your sorority experience is everything you ever hoped it would be!!

I'm assuming that Beauxbatons is UCLA :)

WaterChild 09-15-2011 01:00 PM

Congratulations! I'm so glad it worked out for you.

Yes indeed!

Since I've been through recruitment now and I'm done, I may as well tell you all: my family is such a mixed family in terms of UCLA/USC. I have two uncles and one went to each; my mother went to UCLA and my dad went to USC. I have a cousin who did undergrad at UCLA and grad at USC. I'm the sixth in my immediate family to go to USC and, if we're counting any relation as a "legacy," I am a megaleg to USC (I'm the eighth in my family to be a Trojan!).

The weirder thing: my mother tried to colonize SDT at UCLA (I think it went in and out at UCLA...I don't know. If anyone knows about how that went, she was involved during the period when they bought the house), but it never got off the ground.

Again, thank you all so much for following my story!

ShadeTree 09-15-2011 01:07 PM

Yippee!

Congratulations to you and to SDT! I enjoyed your story- thanks so much for sharing.

Here is a small list from one of my favorite websites of all time. Dumbledore is seriously just the best.

amIblue? 09-15-2011 01:20 PM

So very happy for your happy ending! SDT is lucky to have you!

kaeb 09-15-2011 01:21 PM

I don't know exactly how many new mems are in her new member class, but tonight is bid night so we should know then :) I believe her class is about the same size as mine, though.

FSUZeta 09-15-2011 01:50 PM

Hooray for melinda warren, for kaeb and the sisters of Sigma Delta Tau!!!

melinda, just because you are sorted doesn't mean that you can't hang with us. After all, the Harry Potter books did not end when the sorting did!

aephi alum 09-15-2011 04:09 PM

Congratulations!

scrapinfificat 09-15-2011 04:37 PM

I am so happy for you but very selfishly sorry for all of us that you followed your story.
We love reading your wonderful writing! But you have much to do - class to attend & sisters to get to know. Much happiness to you.

ellebud 09-15-2011 05:01 PM

SDT and UCLA: While I pledged at USC (AEPhi), I graduated from UCLA. When I was an AEPhi at UCLA there was an active SDT chapter at UCLA. Fast forwarding a few years: My next door neighbor was an SDT at UCLA. She graduated about 1977 or so...yes, they had a house. And they were smaller (in numbers) than AEPhi. I will say that the former neighbor was VERY close to several of her sisters. They had a monthly get together. And I saw a few of them (separately) come over. (No, I wasn't looking over the fence. This was the time of my life that was one big transportation company. I was always coming or going.) So, in the 70s there was an SDT house on Hilgard. I believe it was at the southern end of Hilgard, closer to the village.

BeeVee 09-15-2011 06:26 PM

AHHHH! Hooray! This is so great. :] I'm so happy for you.

IndianaSigKap 09-15-2011 07:42 PM

I very rarely can guess the school and chapters, but I had the right idea for once. Congratulations! I was really hoping for a happy ending and so relieved to see one. :-)

LouisaMay 09-15-2011 10:11 PM

Congratulations! You're joining a great organization.

kaeb 09-16-2011 01:03 AM

Ellebud, the semester I pledged (last fall), we took a sisterhood trip to see the UCLA SDT house. It's still there, but it's like grad student housing now or something. But our letters are up! I'm sure the residents were quite confused by the swarm of young women outside of their building, though!

melindawarren 09-16-2011 01:05 AM

Ok, new thing: tonight, kaeb and I took a photo together and we want to share it with you. I just have one request: if I post it, will everyone promise not to quote it? I will remove the photo at some point. Yes, I know that the internet makes everything visible forever, but I want to share (for a little bit!) and then stop sharing. Thank you so much!

DaffyKD 09-16-2011 01:11 AM

I would love to see the picture but as a worry wart Jewish mother I wonder how good an idea that is. You have no idea who is lurking on this board that plans to go against your wishes and quote you just for the heck of it. You also don't know how it will end up on the internet. Too many people would know how to locate you and now they will know what you look like.

You are actually right. Hmm...perhaps the photo will be heading back to facebook...

As a side note, there is one photo I should for sure post, but it isn't of me. And that one can be QFP'd or just about anything because it isn't of me! :)

ElieM 09-16-2011 01:18 AM

is there such thing as the greekchat goggles of anonymity?

CougarGrad 09-16-2011 10:30 AM

Congratulations to Bellatrix, kaeb, and the sisters of Sig Delt! What a fun story this has been to read, and I know the journey has been very trying and tiring, but you sound so happy, and we're happy for you. :)

Low C Sharp 09-16-2011 10:40 AM

Maybe you could post a picture of the whole pledge class or whole house, and privately PM people to point yourselves out?
