My daughter has been asked back to one today. It was one of her consistent favorites from the week so that is a good thing. But now... it is so stressful waiting to see what will happen now!

To those of you that did not receive good news: A neighbor's daughter was released in her freshman year (at Auburn), came back sophomore year, joined a sorority and had a good time. She recently graduated. Good luck to all of you and lots of love to you, too!

carnation 08-13-2011 10:32 AM

I hope that all the PNMs can go do something far away from campus this evening. Something that will keep them physically busy would be great!!!

chioalum 08-13-2011 10:33 AM

Lavalier, I am so sorry your daughter was released. I agree with FSUZeta drive doen and do some retail therapy.

That's great news! But very stressful on both of you, I can imagine. Remember, all it takes is one!

bamamama14 08-13-2011 10:56 AM

Does anyone know what percent of girls don't complete recruitment at Auburn? That includes girls that drop throughout the week, or are released.

I think I read somewhere that UA has about an 88% rate of placement.

Aubie123 08-13-2011 11:00 AM

Lavalier, I'm sorry about your daughter.

I've been invited back to three pref parties! Even better, I can genuinely say I like all of them! ....but I am definitely going to have to find something to do tonight.

Lavalier 08-13-2011 11:30 AM

Thanks everyone!

Thank you all for the nice messages and condolences... I am probably more surprised and shocked than anything. One of her top choices (and one of the 3 that dropped her today) was my chapter at Auburn - so you know that hurts, too. Even though I knew all of the facts about legacies, recs, etc. I just never thought my daughter would be completely dropped. I had been talking and talking to her about staying open minded and giving every group a chance and she was doing that. Not sure if the other two thought she was legacy and would not be open or what happened - and we will never know....

She has an audition on Tuesday (musical) so hopefully that will go well and she will be able to start out with that activity and look for other avenues to get involved.

I am still interested in what happens to the other PNM's and daughters of mom's who've been posting so I will stick around and rejoice with those that make it! Good luck to each and every one of you !!

33girl 08-13-2011 12:07 PM

Lavalier, you are being so awesomely understanding - as a mom AND as a sorority alumna. Too many people throw the latter out the window when things don't work out. If you have passed on your attitude to your daughter, she'll be happy in whatever she does at Auburn (or life!!).

FuturePNMMom 08-13-2011 12:47 PM

We have good news. My daughter got her top 3 back for Pref. While she has them ranked in her head going into the parties, she said she would be very happy in any of them. Her roommate also got 3 prefs, so tomorrow at this time we will be celebrating with two new Greek babies!

Gamomof2 08-13-2011 12:59 PM

Dauhter has 3 parties. One group there are unanswered questions about them that I hope the Pref party will answer. Depending on the answers a bid from any of the 3 would be good.

Right. I applaud her calmness and not bashing/berating her chapter. I've seen that happen on here, too.

Does Auburn have guaranteed placement now?

KSUViolet06 08-13-2011 01:04 PM

I think they are a generally assured bidding campus.

Meaning that nothing is guaranteed, but if you attend and rank all 3 of your choices for pref, you most likely will get a bid to one of them (though it may not be your #1.)

carnation 08-13-2011 01:37 PM

We have known of, in very recent years, girls who went to 3 parties and ranked all 3 but didn't get a bid.

phimusam 08-13-2011 02:02 PM

Many sororities require than legacies invited to pref be on the first bid list. So legacies can be cut one round earlier than they would be otherwise. It is entirely possible that others cut someone who is still attending legacy sorority. So, if someone in that situation is still interested, she should might want to sign up for COB.

honeychile 08-13-2011 02:02 PM

What's the possibility of either snap bids or COR at Auburn?

FSUZeta 08-13-2011 03:12 PM

i hope all the moms stick around and stay with us after recruitment is over.

AZ-AlphaXi 08-13-2011 03:12 PM

The Auburn Panhellenic facebook page has pictures of PNMs waiting for preference parties.

Aubie123 08-13-2011 06:12 PM

Whew, we all just finished ranking! I can't believe the week is over!! Anyways, I maximized my options and ranked all three so I guess how it works out tomorrow morning!

wareagle93 08-13-2011 06:25 PM

We're all rooting for you Aubie!! Hoping for some good news tomorrow!

AUBoosMom 08-13-2011 06:52 PM

Wareagle and Lavalier, my heart sincerely goes out to you.

One of the reasons my daughter chose Auburn over all of the other great schools we visited, literally all over the country, was the overwhelming friendliness of the students. From the kid who struck up a conversation with us in the Chik Fil 'A line in the student union, to the groups of students who yelled "Come to Auburn!!" at our tour group, we were blown away by the wonderful spirit, unity, and closeness demonstrated by everyone we met.

You/your daughter will be welcomed into this close-knit family, will make fabulous friends, and will have many happy college experiences/memories. This will all soon seem like just a bump in the road.

Best of luck to you, and please let everyone here know if you decide to pursue COR. We are rooting for you.

This is arguably the best post since I've been on GC. This is literally why I chose to go to AU. When I visited it, I was blown away by how friendly everyone was. It was really refreshing to be around a place where everyone seemed to love each other for being apart of the greatest university in the world, and where people are so down-to-earth and not judgemental (Auburn, Alabama is the complete opposite of where I live-and I couldn't wait to get out of there and arrive at AU). AU is far more than just greek life, there are plenty of other great clubs/programs to be apart of-Tiger Tuesdays and Auburn IMPACT to name a few (I'm looking into these as well, in addition to my pledging a fraternity). AU is such a great place!

FuturePNMMom 08-13-2011 07:56 PM

We were told at CWE that if you had 3 pref parties and maximized your options at the end, you would get a bid on Bid Day but not necessarily your first choice.

carnation 08-13-2011 08:00 PM

I'm glad that they do that now...no one should go to 3 parties and end up bidless.

Football Fan 08-13-2011 08:07 PM

Carnation,

......agree +1

Fan:)

wareagle93 08-13-2011 08:17 PM

Good luck to all the PNM's tomorrow! Really looking forward to hearing from the parents of PNM's and the lovely ladies going through rush at AU on this board. Here's to hoping for some great news!

AUBoosMom 08-13-2011 08:46 PM

This has been the biggest rollercoaster of my life and I'm just the MOM!!

Hoping that the morning brings good news for everyone waiting for the final results of Auburn recruitment 2011.

(In my own case, that would be for my daughter, daughter's friend, and daughter's roommate.) I wish I weren't practically a continent away and could be there tomorrow!

P.S. wareagle93, thank you for the compliment. Auburn seems to be the most extraordinary place. I hope you have a wonderful college career there and a lot of fun with your fraternity!

wareagle93 08-13-2011 09:08 PM

Bid Day is 10AM tomorrow, correct?

Gamomof2 08-13-2011 11:10 PM

Daughter went to her parties and her 3rd choice became her second choice. But still all 3 are great to have. Her pi chi told themto be at the field by 930 withthe reveal at 10am.

Her friend has bid day tomorrow also but at Valdosta (VSU). There are 6 groups there and she had one pref party. She finds out at 11 am EST.

wareagle93 08-13-2011 11:23 PM

Great news! Keep us updated when they contact you! I'm thinking about heading down and checking the action out with some friends and fellow pledge brothers haha.

honeychile 08-13-2011 11:41 PM

Auburn's first, right? Is Jill standing by?

Baby, (or should I say "honeychile") :D I'm standing by.
Sadly, due to last night's tragic events at the Indiana State Fair, my plans have been changed. (Sugarland and Sara Bareilles cancelled tonight's show that I had tickets to)

AuburnMom85 08-14-2011 08:55 AM

Bid Day

Well, this has been one of the toughest 24hrs I've been thru!! Emotions have run the gamut, but I do believe the sun came up this morning. :)

I drove to Auburn yesterday to be with A last night. I'm so glad I did. She looked pitiful. Swollen eyes, so hoarse...and a bundle of nerves. She went out to eat with me and then I dropped her off with her Pi Chi group since they were meeting later. She has already made some great friends in her group and they know what she has been going thru and have been super supportive.

A went to all three prefs, but it made her mind mind up even more that one group -Diamond - was the only one that she was supposed to be in. I told her I would support her 100% on whatever she decided to do, but to please consider maximizing and ranking the other two anyway. She made the decision - and suicide bided for Diamond. Her argument was that she knew their were other girls she would be taking a bid from in the ones she didn't want. It was all or none for her.

She spend the night with me and cried half the night. So scared. We talked about being prepared for "that call" her Pi Chi leader might make. A didn't regret her decision at all.

About 6:30 this morning she got a text from her Pi Chi saying that NO ONE IN THEIR GROUP WAS RELEASED!!

Tears of joy this time!! We both want to see that name on that sheet of paper before we feel completely safe. Also...I'm going to wait until later to reveal where A...and B ended up.

More to come!

Eightisgreat 08-14-2011 08:58 AM

Sounds as if things have moved in the right direction. I would want the piece of paper too!! :D

Congratulations to your daughter!!

Gung-Ho-Chi-O 08-14-2011 09:32 AM

Congratulations to your daughter! (and happiness to you):)

I did exactly what your daughter did and although it was tough to do, I felt it was the only way. All or nothing and it was just meant to be.

txAOII_15 08-14-2011 10:13 AM

congratulations to your daughter AuburnMom85! i'm super happy that it worked out for her; i can't wait to hear where she and her friends found their homes

Gamomof2 08-14-2011 10:29 AM

carnation 08-14-2011 10:30 AM
