Warmest congratulations to Delta Gamma, the 224 new members of the colony (how thrilling is THAT?), and to the University of Alabama Greek community. *doing the happy dance because this is happy news*

WhiteDaisy128 08-28-2011 03:06 PM

I'd like to send a note of congratulations to the colony sisters from my alumnae group, does anyone have an address for them yet?

Benzgirl 08-28-2011 05:33 PM

Wow! I hope some of those who were released from recruitment were included in the new member class.

224, wow!

How many women came out for the colonization total?

AnchorAlumna 08-28-2011 06:39 PM

Whew! I had forgotten about those all-nighters right before bid day!
We have 224 beautiful new DGs at the University of Alabama:D...16 thrilled DG moms-aunts-sisters-grandmothers-cousins:D:D:D...girls from the big Alabama cities and the little bitty cities...girls from Georgia, Florida, Texas, Tennessee, Indiana, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, North Carolina, Oregon, Louisiana and more...some who were released from formal, some who released themselves, some who had never rushed before, some who pledged a different sorority - in other words, a pretty normal chapter makeup.

Beta Psi colony would welcome congratulatory notes! Send to Delta Gamma, P.O. Box 11019, Tuscaloosa AL 35486.

I heard over 500 interviewed, but I don't know an exact number as I am not in Tuscaloosa helping (though I wish I was!).

greekdee 08-28-2011 08:34 PM

A neighbor's daughter, a freshman at BAMA, just posted a picture on FB of her in her new Delta Gamma tee-shirt!

Titchou 08-28-2011 09:18 PM

It was such a thrill to be there and sing Dream Girl to our new members! I truly did not think I would live long enough to see the return of my chapter. Delta Gamma - for hope, for strength, for life.

ljnole 08-28-2011 09:28 PM

Will there be a bid list posted somewhere? Would love to see if we know anyone!

Just interested 08-28-2011 09:31 PM

CONGRATULATIONS!!

A VERY SPECIAL DAY!

SWTXBelle 08-28-2011 09:39 PM

I'll just bet there's an ad in the school paper this week!

That's wonderful Titchou. I would love to see a video of that serenade. It's been years since I have heard Dream Girl. I'm so happy for all the Beta Psi alums.

Titchou 08-28-2011 09:56 PM

Well, it wasn't the best rendition ever! Tried to find your friend but with over 200 women it just wasn't possible.

This is so touching. I have a lump in my throat reading that. What a thrill for you and all the Beta Psi alumni. Congrats to Delta Gamma and to the classy Panhellenic group at Bama.

Hey! You weren't there for the rehearsal!
But we'll work on it!:p

bamamama14 08-29-2011 09:00 PM

My daughter called today and said campus was covered with new memebrs in their DG jerseys. They were everywhere!! Several of her friends from class pledged, and these were girls who had not previously gone through recruitment.
So happy for all these new members, and glad they have that DG pride. You seldom see girls wear their pledge jerseys after bid day.

AnchorAlum 08-29-2011 09:57 PM

You have no idea how this warms my heart. I remember taking a tour of National during the 84 Convention in Columbus, and seeing the Beta Psi grandfather clock, and hearing our tour guide say "We're just giving it a temporary home until it goes back to Tuscaloosa one day".

Makes me tear up.

Titchou 08-29-2011 10:08 PM

And you better believe that clock's coming back!

I am going to have to stop reading this thread ~ I get to weepy every time.

Nhfulmer 08-30-2011 10:27 AM

Delta Gamma, welcome home. The big anchor was in front of the house during my time there - I hope someone still has it. I know three of the new pledges - one is my very favorite PNM from Charlotte. I'm so happy for all 224!! Congratulations from Zeta Tau Alpha.

Great article.

baylorzta 08-30-2011 05:54 PM

I just had to add something here. I walked a very special (to me) PNM through recruitment. She called me after she got her pref list. She liked two of them and didn't like the third. I tried very hard to get her to keep an open mind and put all three down. She refused and only included two. She did not get a bid, but she handled it well.

Luckily, I had been reading this board and was well versed in the DG recolonization. I sent her an email and suggested she look into this. She did and she is now a DG pledge. Thank you ladies for making this information available.

Delta Gamma, you did good:)

Aww, that made me tear up...:)

dgdramadawg 08-30-2011 07:09 PM

Today at the nail salon, I was sitting next to a Bama mom who was talking about how much her daughter loves the school and her new sorority.

I asked her where her daughter pledged, like I'd ask any mom in this situation. I've asked tons of moms this question over the years...

But this was the first time I got to hear "Delta Gamma" as the answer from the mom of a Bama girl! :)

FSUZeta 08-30-2011 07:10 PM

how neat!!

Titchou 08-30-2011 09:07 PM

Thank y'all so much!

And the anchor was sent to another chapter - up north (don't want to call them out!) Getting it back since it's cemented into a patio is a little problematic....but we shall see. The clock is the most important thing to us (Tiffany moon face !)

I think I know where it is, but maybe it is a common feature of DG houses?

Titchou 08-30-2011 09:30 PM

Oh yes...almost all have one.

And it's not in Illinois.....

Phigirl04 08-30-2011 09:58 PM

Congrats Delta Gamma!!

And maybe a replica anchor sent as a gift from the chapter that has the original could happen or something similar.

I know a lot of DG chapters have anchors...is it at UMD?

Titchou 08-31-2011 06:30 AM

Anchors are easily purchased and can be loaned permanently by the Navy. We'll get one.

LouisaMay 08-31-2011 08:54 AM

Congratulations, Delta Gamma! This thread has a way of boosting all-around sorority pride.

arrowlady 08-31-2011 04:49 PM

So happy for Delta Gamma, and love hearing the stories in this thread.
I hope that all future colonizations can be as supported and successful as this one!
