The paper is a bit odd but I'll gladly ignore the paper b/c I love the series.

So I'm still reading the book. I'm not even 1/4 of the way through yet which is VERY unlike me. The main reasons being that because my new school year starts next week with teacher work days, I've been extremely busy prepping since I was changed to teach 1st grade this past Wednesday. Ick!

I've been getting a little confused just because in some of the chapters, they don't use the names of the characters anymore rather they're being called other things such as The Windblown and The Wayward Queen etc. Lol! It takes me a bit to figure out who I'm reading about.

Still, so far, reading about Jon & Tyrion has been the best. Not liking Dany's chapters so far. I hope they get better.

IndianaSigKap 07-30-2011 09:28 PM

Finished reading the first book, about a third of the way done with the second. I like Tyrion more and more. The odd thing about the second book is that Robb isn't a chapter. I didn't notice it until a few chapters ago.

Robb definitely gets more notice later on. Promise.

Here are some interesting articles for those who are interested.

The 6 most evil characters in the book series.
SPOILER ALERT! DO NOT CLICK ON THIS LINK IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE BOOKS UNLESS YOU DON'T CARE!

Jaqen H'ghar has been cast! Thoughts? Minor spoilers in the article but nothing OMG!

Asha Greyjoy & Xaro Xhoan Daxos have also been cast. Irritated at the name change for Asha though. Seriously? Heaven forbid there are 2 characters in a story with similar names. So stupid!

Davos Seaworth has been cast. I like this casting. :)

Finally, Stannis Baratheon and Lady Melisandre have been cast. I like the actress cast for Melisandre but I'm not too crazy about the guy cast for Stannis. I always pictured him as brawny & dark (as in a dismal aura around him since he's a humorless guy) but this guy doesn't fit my imagination. Oh well. We'll see what happens.

If Game of Thrones was a Super Nintendo era RPG (spoilers)

/spoilers in it btw in case people didn't guess.

LMAO! Love it! ;)

Y'all, help me out. I'm listening to A Game of Thrones on audiobook and intend to listen to the rest of the books too. We kind of want to watch the show but I don't want to spoil the books -- how far into the series does the show go? Is it just book 1? I'm about halfway through the book.

victoriana 08-19-2011 04:36 PM

So far, season one of Game of Thrones just covers the first book. It strays into the second just a little bit, but not enough to ruin it for you.

BetteDavisEyes 11-21-2011 06:46 PM

Winter is coming.

Woohoo! Previews of some of the new characters for Season 2 are up. Just teasers but we get a first look at some of the new characters like Stannis, Melisandre, Margery, etc.

To say I'm excited is an understatement. :D

I know!! I'm so excited. Screencaps and GIFs have been blowing up my Tumblr all day. I just love Natalie Dormer so much, and I think she will make an amazing Margaery.

Sidenote: there are a couple of girls who like GoT in my chapter so we gave each other little nicknames, and I'm Margaery.

Side-sidenote: If you're bored, take this quiz to see what house you would be in. It's pretty detailed and accurate. I'm a Tyrell. http://www.quizfarm.com/quizzes/west...-too/index.php

BetteDavisEyes 11-22-2011 08:53 PM

LOL! I'm House Martell.

You Scored as HOUSE MARTELL
You hail from House Martell. Your house seat is Sunspear in the Dorne. You love the sun and heat, even enough to make your home in the desert. You are independent, strong willed, and can survive no matter what happens. The underdog. You may be different from everyone else, but who said that was a bad thing? Your house motto: Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken.

ms_gwyn 11-23-2011 12:25 AM

Not surprising really....

You Scored as HOUSE STARK
Brrr. You hail from House Stark. Your house seat is Winterfell way up North. You are responsible, trustworthy, and know how to be a leader when called upon. You are a workhorse for the realm, and even with all those good things, sometimes you dont come out on top. Your house motto: Winter is Coming.

Also in the recent HBO mini-preview...DB Weiss (Writer and Producer) was seen wearing a black t-shirt with the Sword and Martini Guy...the emblem of the game Kingdom of Loathing....a great game and my friends created and is complete geek-tastic :D

ADqtPiMel 11-23-2011 09:39 AM

I'm listening to a Storm of Swords on audiobook while running and OHHHHHHHHHHH MYYYYYYYYYYY GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH. I liked a Game of Thrones fine and kind of thought a Clash of Kings was boring, but there was definitely one point in this one where I came to a crashing halt and was all, "WAIT. WHAT."

Haha, yeah! I know what you mean. I had to stop and re-read it like three times just to process the sheer amount of OMG.

ms_gwyn 03-16-2012 03:01 PM

I think I'm reading the part in ASOS that some had to re-read...I inadvertently spoiled myself on this particular plot point...so I knew it was coming...but it is so very hard to read

I second this. When does it start up again?

BetteDavisEyes 03-19-2012 08:10 PM

The new season starts April 1st.

Did anyone watch The Simpsons tribute to Game of Thrones? I LOVED it!

IrishLake 04-01-2012 09:42 PM

Who's watching?????

IrishLake 04-01-2012 10:32 PM

So one of ya'll needs to give me a heads up if there's going to be anymore (spoiler in white):

Culling of babies and children. I know we don't know if the show will follow the books plot to a T, but I cannot stomach that shit. I've been like that with other HBO shows before too. It's enough to make me stop watching the show. Seriously, my boobs started leaking when I realized what was happening and the baby was crying.

I wanted to jump through the damn TV and slit that fucking in-bred Lannister bastard's throat.

Oh, and I need more Daenerys. Lots and lots more!

AlphaFrog 04-02-2012 07:38 AM

We had a free HBO weekend, so I watched the marathon and the new one. I'd never seen it before, but I'd heard great things about it. I enjoyed it except the over-the-top blood gushing. Even Daenayers eating the heart didn't get to me like the spurting blood from a wound that probably would have bled, but not shooting 10 feet in the air.

Yuck on the Queen Regent who thinks her and her twin belong together.

I think the #1 thing I learned yesterday about the series is not to get too attached to a character, because they might not be around for long.

Oh, and I admit that I shouldn't be letting the 5 & 7 year old watch it (they came in from fishing with Papa around the time the blonde dude git his gold "crown" - and I flipped channels during the brothel scenes when they were around), but should I be concerned that they were less grossed out by it than I was? In fact, I told my daughter that she may not want to watch during that gold crown scene and she replied that she likes dark and creepy things.

I got House Martell as well.

Yes!

That’s the one downfall of this show- there is just so much going on, you feel like you’re just getting a snippet of each plot in each episode. It’s one of the fastest-moving hours on television!

I noticed that it's kinda soapy in that way. Fran Drecher said it best: "Please, it's a soap opera. We'll be lucky if that coffee's done brewing six months from now."

ms_gwyn 04-02-2012 03:30 PM

I will say that they are very good to the books...we are talking 700 + page books in 10 hours of TV and the way that George RR Martin writes them...yea, I'm not angry with them and I get very angry when they change the books too much....

Also, I think with the scene of the culling children, its more of a scene with Gendry and why his master got rid of him (he no longer saw a profit to the boy) and it serves for a scene upcoming...I'm sure they are going to add it because of the culling children, between Arya and Gendry....

victoriana 04-02-2012 05:28 PM

I loved it. It was a great start to the season. I found it distasteful when they were showing outright sex, there's just no need for that. The culling of the children was also pretty shocking. I kept trying to remember if it was in the book. So terrible. I can't wait until Joffrey's demise.

heatherhasstyle 04-11-2012 12:15 PM

Hey everyone, I've been thinking about reading this series, as I love fantasy myself. However, I'm not into really really graphic gore and someone told me that it wouldn't be a good read for me given that fact. Is that true? I hear they are amazing books so I've been really wanting to try them out.

ASUADPi 04-11-2012 09:34 PM

I asked my dad to get HBO for me to watch at least the first two episodes while I am visiting for spring break. I won't be able to watch any more episodes until June!!!!!! I shall have to unsubscribe to this thread as I don't want to be spoiled. I am sooooo bummed that I won't be able to watch anymore until June. Thank god my dad agreed to get HBO for me.

IndianaSigKap 04-11-2012 09:42 PM

Depending on your cable provider you can watch on HBO Go. We have Insight and they didn't partner with HBO, but if your cable provider did, then you can download the app and watch using your Dad's account information for free.

ASUADPi 04-12-2012 09:07 AM

I'm living in an extended stay hotel until the end of the school as I will be moving. The hotel has encore, not HBO. I'll have to check with my dad's HBO provider and see about watching it on my laptop. Otherwise, it's really not that big of a deal. As long as my brother (who is now into the show) doesn't ruin it for me, I'm okay. It's easy to avoid this thread. :D

IrishLake 04-13-2012 11:40 AM

Yeah, I can't watch it any more. Not right now, not while I have a baby who breastfeeds constantly. All the baby killing has gotten to me, and I've cried my damn eyes out the first two episodes. I'm done.

ms_gwyn 05-02-2012 03:35 PM

So what does everyone this so far of the season...

I was so happy about last week's episode...although, I will be upset if the Reeds don't show up in Season 3....

I'm pretty pleased so far. I have yet to see this Sunday's episode, but I've seen 1-4. I am really happy with all of the new castings, especially Margaery and Brienne. They did a pretty good job with Melisandre too. In episode 4, I didn't appreciate the way they made Dany seem like a petulant child at the gates of Qarth. I absolutely despised the scene with Joffrey and the prostitutes. I could barely watch it. I loved the scenes with Tyrion especially. I don't have many complaints with the season thus far, except for my usual annoyance with the copious and, in my opinion, unnecessary sex scenes.

Agreed...it gave me the creeps. My husband has read the books, so he was prepared, but I was not. Now I really understand why he keeps saying over and over that Joffrey is a "sick bastard"...every time you think he can't get any worse, he comes up with something even more evil. I said, "please tell me that Tyrion is going to do something about this!"

I'll start downloading it now, but the internet is so slow at my boyfriend's place. It'll take a while but I'm sure it will be worth it. Who the eff is Roz? Did I miss something?

The redhead who Joffrey gave the stick to in that awful scene? Or the dumb looking brunette?
