If William's heir is his child, Catherine will become Queen Mother and the crown will be passed on. When William is King, Catherine will technically be Queen Consort, but referred to as Queen Catherine.

As to her current title, Catherine is HRH Duchess of Cambridge and referred to as Your Highness.

I'm sure many will call her Princess Kate, or Princess Catherine (I've heard this on the BBC this morning), though that is totally incorrect. As a general rule, only women born as princesses are called Princess FirstName. Lady Kate would be wrong -- she is now of higher rank now than "Lady." And Duchess FirstName is never correct. The proper way to refer to her is Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge (or the Duchess of Cambridge), just as Camilla is Duchess of Cornwall.

For what it's worth, Kate's full style and title is Her Royal Highness Princess William Arthur Philip Louis, Duchess of Cambridge, Countess of Strathearn, Baroness Carrickfergus, Master of Arts. And here is her new coat of arms, which impales her recently granted arms with William's:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi..._Wales.svg.png

Trivia: The three new titles (Duke/Duchess of Cambridge, Earl/Countess of Strathearn and Baron/Baroness Carrickfergus) include English (Cambridge), Scottish (Stathearn) and Irish (Carrickfergus) titles. The last Duke of Cambridge (Prince William, grandson of George III) refused to enter an arranged marriage because he thought they were doomed to failure. Instead he married a commoner for love. He married an actress, Sarah Louisa Fairbrother -- after he had two children by her and she was pregnant with a third child. :D

Yes, she will be queen if/when he becomes king. (She'll be a queen consort like Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, not a queen regnant like Elizabeth II.) Once a queen, always a queen (unless you're married to Henry VIII). So if William dies first she will still be Queen Catherine, though at that point, she would be a queen dowager, not a queen consort. If one of her children becames king/queen, she'd be the Queen Mother.

I'm still betting everyone will (informally) call her Princess Kate just like Diana was Princess Di. One of a million ways people will compare and link her to William's mother every step of the way.

They loved beautiful. Stiff and a bit nervous, but beautiful. :)

All I know is that I'm exhausted now.

The Royal Wedding will re-aire on 20/20 tonight @ 9:00.

ASTalumna06 04-29-2011 09:59 AM

I'm 10 times more interested in MysticCat's teachings than I am with this whole wedding thing.

FWIW, the Queen Mother is a relatively new term. Queen Elizabeth II's mother was the first to use it.

Unfortunately, I had to take allergy medication last night, and managed to sleep through two alarms. I'm watching it now on BBC America (thank heavens I took the day off!).

I guess there's enough MysticCat cybercrush to go around. :p

I'm staying on the hair thing (because I'm insanely jealous).

I'm so glad she wore it mostly down. Shiny hair like that shouldn't be hidden away.

The unicorn is the traditional supporter of the Scottish royal arms. The Tudor monarchs used a lion (England) and a dragon (Wales) as supporters, but when James VI of Scotland became James I of England (after the death of Elizabeth I), he replaced the Welsh dragon with the Scottish unicorn.

Oh, I am loathe to challenge my Jamestown cousin on this one, but the title has been longer than that. The OED dates it back to the sixteenth century. Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother was the first person for whom it was a formal rather than informal title. Queen Mary and Queen Alexandra before her chose not to use the title. Before them, you have to go back a few centuries to find anyone who would even be entitled to be called Queen Mother.

And LOL at all y'all!

And I am most certainly NOT loathe to accept your royal authority, my royal Jamestown cousin! That's what I get for trusting Yahoo! - I need to brush up on my royal trivia. Sadly, I discovered last night that my favourite tiara is in need of repair.

BluPhire 04-29-2011 11:11 AM

Just saw Pippa's dress.

That's my only comment I have for this thread.

agzg 04-29-2011 11:15 AM

Wait, is the hat a fascinator?

honeychile 04-29-2011 11:21 AM

Was Chelsy Davis invited? If it was announced, I never saw
the full guest list.

33girl 04-29-2011 11:21 AM

Didn't watch, but I LOVE Kate's dress. Maybe it'll start a trend and everyone will stop wearing strapless dresses with the rolls of fat hanging out over the top.

And wow, Wills is becoming less Diana and more Charles every day.

Yep, those little floofy things, often with feathers, perched on top of the head are called a fascinator. Not enough of it to qualify as a hat!

Except when he mingles with "the people." Then you really see Diana in him.

Not sure I understand what you're asking, but the facinators are the feathery headbands worn in lieu of a hat.

No, I meant the MysticCat fan club hats.

I'm imagining a fascinator with a unicorn horn instead of feathers.

MysticCat fan club hats > hats at the royal wedding

One can only dream.

Sidenote: LOL at people actually WAKING up at 5AM and calling off work to watch this. And double LOL at having a Royal Wedding viewing party at that hour to watch it.

I haven't watched, but I figured they'll talk about it enough on the news so it doesn't matter.

Ah. Then yeah, he really does. Poor chap.

How about more trivia: Apparently Edward was to have been made Duke of Cambridge when he married Sophie Rhys-Jones, but he asked the Queen to make him Earl of Wessex instead. Supposedly, the reason was that he liked Colin Firth's chacacter is Shakespeare in Love.

Not making that up.

ASTalumna06 04-29-2011 11:55 AM

So I just went on msn.com, and this is the picture on the main page:

I believe it. He always did have a theatrical air about him. It's a bit odd that there are very few pictures of his daughter, Lady Louise. I understand she's a bridesmaid today, though.

KSUViolet06 04-29-2011 12:16 PM

Lady Louise looks so thrilled to be part of the festivities.

Nice to know that royal flowergirls don't behave any differently than we non-royals do (I have yet to see a flowergirl perform her duties without looking as if she'd rather eat glass.)

Of course you commoners may use acceptable facinstors as your official MC Fan Club headwear.

We noble members, however, shall wear tiaras to all official functions.

It's a little weird in the bust area...like, too pointy or something.

And how do the staff at the Abbey feel about it all being over?

You can see here. :D

i was greatly underwhelmed with the musical selections. the processional sounded more funereal than upbeat, and happy. i believe i heard that prince philip had a hand in the selection of the music.

i believe i remember reading somewhere that prince edward's daughter, louise, has some lingering effects from her premature birth, and therefore is not photographed often.

Do you think the music planned for Prince Philip's funeral was confused with that of the wedding? ;)

Quote:

I've often wondered if that was so. The Royal "powers behind the throne" successfully hid Princess Eugenie's stenosis until she was done wearing the apparatus, just as they hid her sister's (Princess Beatrice) ADD. It would have been quite easy to hide Lady Louise, as a minor royal.

I wonder also how much hoopla will surround Zara Philip's wedding in July? One-tenth? One-hundredth? I can't see all of the television coverage of today for the Princess Royal's daugher!

I LOVED the music! I would have loved to have choirs like that for my wedding...it was just appropriate for the W.A. setting.
