I didn't know Mandy Moore went to Bishop Moore! I went to a catholic HS in Melbourne Fl and we used to play them all the time in sports! We went to a track mee there every year! I think she is pretty cool, I caught her show on MTV this summer, she seems to be a great celebrity personality!

oh and to keep to the subject ....err....well somewhat (no I won't bring up brittney) But one of my friends is a KD and she says that the girl on the Doritos comercial is a KD!

Ali Landry, the 'Doritos girl', was initiated as a KD at LSU, I believe.

I visited my fraternity's University of Fla. chapter several times back in my undergrad days when Brother Emmitt Smith(1992) was being initiated.

allgreek2me 02-26-2002 10:50 AM

I was talking to my roommate (Chi O alum) about famous Greeks and completely forgot about a "pseudo-famous" Chi Omega at UT! Her name is Carolina Iglesias. She's the niece of Julio and cousin to Enrique. She was a senior when we were freshman or sophomores (we can't remember) and so nice!

SparkliiQTMTSU 02-26-2002 11:00 AM

Ok are there any famous ZTA's??!! I havent heard of any and was just wondering if anyone else knew of any.

Good Story

One of the best stories I've heard is about the Kappa Sigma chapter consultant who travelled to their Southern Mississippi chapter back in the 1960s. On of the brothers was a kind of rascally, good natured guy with a really, really bad car. The consultant borrowed the car, but had to keep two or three extra quarts of oil in the trunk just to keep it going. The guy in the chapter liked to play guitar and dreamed of being an entertainer. ....Jimmy Buffett.

Our website has a list of them. There is an Ohio chapter that lists Delta Burke and Linda Carter as being ZTA's but our national website does not.

ADPiSweety 02-26-2002 02:18 PM

I don't know their real names lol, but Winnie from the Wonder years is an ADPi and also one of the Designing Women, I think its Charlene is an ADPi, and a few others...

In the student union we have a display case and each week a different fraternity or sorority puts up their cute little stuff etc, and tells all about themselves, and in our display we had a section for famous ADPi's and thats where I saw it.

RockChalk 02-26-2002 03:23 PM

To answer the Janis Joplin question, I watched a VH1 special on her a few months ago. They said she went to UT but did not graduate. They didn't mention her being in a sorority, but a fraternity (they didn't say which one) voted her "Ugly Man on Campus."

allgreek2me 02-26-2002 04:07 PM

Janis Joplin - Ugly Man on Campus

Janis was voted Ugly Man on Campus by Delta Tau Delta.

AlphaGamGoddess 02-26-2002 06:06 PM

This isn't really about any famous greeks exactly...but it's a funny story. A few years ago two sisters/roomates of mine went to Michigan State to visit a friend who was in a fraternity up there...not sure which one. Well one of the guys looked exactly like Jonathan Brandis (he was in the 1992 movie Ladybugs). So all the guys had my sisters convinced that it was him and they came back home and were all excited and told me and since both of them had boyfriends they were all like yeah we're gonna hook you up! And I thought he was a cutie so I was like sweet! Yeah...well come to find out a week later...it wasn't him. The guys were just being stupid boys. But now that I think about it Jonathan Brandis is probably like 40! Hehe...
:D

AOII_Luv 02-26-2002 06:23 PM

I heard from several people here that the girl who plays Jody in Center Stage was a Tri-Delt at IU. Also, I have heard that Sandra Bullock was an AOII pledge.

Beryana 02-26-2002 06:41 PM

I know that Margaret Bourke-White was an AOII at the University of Michigan. For those that don't know, she was the photographer for Life Magazine during the 30s and 40s. She died of Parkinson's Disease in 1971 and AOII awarded her and award posthumously (I can't remember which one off the top of my head, but its downstairs - and get back to the AOIIs tomorrow with it!) There are some others as well but lots are authors from the30s, etc.

According to the latest Greek101 catalog, Cindy Crawford is a Pi Beta Phi. I had never heard that, but she went to my school... so if this is correct, Cindy Crawford and I are members of the same chapter!

Cindy Crawford is a Theta Chi little sister!! We list her as famous almumni (almumae??) Thats cool she's in a sorority too!

CJUS 03-04-2002 04:02 PM

I like Britney. I think she is bad. She has a lot of things going for her, and she participates in community involvement. You guys have to realize for one is Britney or whomever is the best person who will represent your sorority to the fullest. I know a lot of people tends to look at her lifestyle, i.e. the way she dresses. A lot of people dress like that, and some dress more horribly, but that is just a stage act. I believe that she is a wonderful person, but hey that's my opinion. Before I go just give these people a chance, find out who they really are, do not judge them based on $/fame. In my opinion, those who reject B. Spears, is losing out because I think she can give a lot.

Also not sure about Susan Lucci -- she attended Marymount College in NY -- is there a PiPhi chapter there?

-Ashley Judd

-Deborah Norville (but for some reason I always get her mixed up with Joan Lunden, who is a DG)

-Kate Spade

-Candice Bergen

-Barbara Feldon (played one of TV's first feminist characters, Agent 99 on "Get Smart")

some authors (including a co-author of that very cool book "Girlfriends," I can't remember her name), some beauty-pageant winners, and me (haha).

My fiance, who is a Sig Ep, never lets me forget about Dr. Seuss and Carroll O'Conner.

Candice Bergen deactivated from Kappa -- I found that out several years ago when I was calling to verify if Marilyn Quayle was a Kappa (I was creating a Panhel trivia game at the time) -

According to this website, Cindy Crawford was only at Northwestern for one semester... I had heard she was a PiPhi but cannot verify at all....I doubt she was...

I heard thru bigraphers on IMDB website that Delta Burke had pledged Zeta but was never initiated...

No one ever answered the earlier question about Chelsea Clinton -- was she in a sorority? That is hard to fathom if she was!!!

A few years after I graduated from Southern Cal, my chapter of Gamma Phi Beta there pledged and initiated the daughter of James Garner (Rockford Files); her name is Greta.

What do you mean by "deactivated"? She went to the Univ. of Penn. but didn't stay all four years. She is listed in our directory from 1987. I'm just confused why someone 20 or 30 years out of college would give up her membership.

I don't think Marilyn Quayle is a Kappa--did you find out otherwise?

Kate Jackson is indeed a Kappa from my chapter. The closest I came to meeting her was her composite picture!

GPhiBLtColonel 06-10-2003 11:01 AM

From what I was told...

...when I called Kappa HQtrs (this was in about the 1996-7 timeframe when I called -- at about the height of Murphy Brown fame), Candace Bergen had reportedly turned her badge back in -- resigned her membership... not sure why, but I think (not sure) it may have been because she was tired of what she viewed as too many requests to do thus and such for the sorority...you can check with your Hqtrs and see though....oh and no, I found out that Marilyn Quayle was not a Kappa, nor was she a Gamma Phi, or a PiPhi or Theta or anything else...

Also, for those who reference a collegiate chapter website for famous alums, I always look at their listings with a grain of salt -- they are not always the most accurate source -- e.g there are many collegiate Gamma Phi websites that list Kirstie Alley and Elizabeth Montgomery as famous alums when in fact they are NOT....

MSKKG 06-10-2003 11:55 AM

Thanks for the info. If other GLOs can claim famous members who never were initiated or were rumored to be a member, then I will still claim her! ;)

Peaches-n-Cream 06-10-2003 02:19 PM

Does anyone know what sorority Sharon Lawrence is in? She is the actress who used to play the DA Costas who was married to Dennis Franz's character on NYPD Blue. I was flipping channels and I heard her say, "When my sorority sisters and I would get together...."

Don't know about Ivanka. The new Governor of Pennsylvania is Ed Rendell. He went to UPenn and he is a member of Pi Lambda Phi.

The closest my chapter can get is Brad Pitt's first cousin who is an active right now...and that's about it. :)

MoxieGrrl 06-10-2003 04:20 PM

Brad Pitt's 1st cousin??!!! :D

If I was Brad Pitt's 1st cousin, I would go into rush at LSU with no recs and let them fight over my lucky little self ;)

Glad to hear that -- when I heard the Delts lost their charter way back when, I just could not imagine the Row without them! I wonder if they are back in their same house? Glad they are doing well!! Yay! DTD!!:D

By the way, someone, anyone PLEASE answer my ignored question about Chelsea Clinton -- was she in a sorority in college? I want details!!

sugar and spice 06-11-2003 02:33 AM

I have heard that Chelsea Clinton wasn't in a sorority in college, but I have no serious sources to back that up. It seems that since such a big deal was made over the Bush twins' sorority affiliation, we'd surely have heard about it by now if Chelsea was in one. Also, since Chelsea's mom wasn't a sorority woman herself, it's probably less likely that Chelsea would go Greek.

AZpinkkittie 06-11-2003 10:01 AM

So what chapter did the Bush twins affiliate with?? Now I'm really curious. If nobody has the former first daughter, I want to know who has the current ones??
