My parents called me to make sure I had supplies. I do, but it's NYC and it takes something MAJOR to get stores to shut down. Also, snow plows start working immediately during a storm, so getting to and from work tonight was a little wet but not so crazy. I ran in snow for the first time last week (I'm training for a 1/2-marathon so I am kind of like the Postal Service when it comes to long runs). It wasn't as bad as I thought. I definitely felt the instability around my ankles more. |

I haven't a clue how I missed this. Hilarious! |

I'm currently buried under about nine inches of snow, and it's still coming down. No mail delivery today, though I did get a UPS delivery.
Fortunately, neither my husband nor I had to go anywhere today. He can work from home if necessary, I nearly always work from my home office, and we have plenty of food, water, and most importantly a well-stocked bar. ;) Stay safe and warm, everyone. |
2-5 inches expected in North Texas.
I guess that's what I get for bragging about our good weather :o |

It's not a bunch (just heard on the news that they're now expecting up to 7 inches), but it's a lot for Texas. |

I just spent the past 2 or 3 hrs digging out myself and most of my neighbors. You know, it really pisses me off to see a lot of the women get out and dig and the few men that I know who live in this complex are either in the house or staring out at the 2 or 3 of us digging. One idiot asked from his front door if we could dig his mom's car out so she could go to the store. |

It kind of sprinkled here today...

Dallas ISD is closed tommorrow. DISD never closes, so the snow here must be pretty serious if DISD is on lockdown. Me, I'll be enjoying my second snowday:cool: yeah for my school following the Lewisville ISD calendar:D
|
Metro Atlanta is expecting 3 inches by this evening. This means that all the eggs, bread and milk in the stores will be gone and there will be lines at the gas stations. Nobody panics better than Atlantans.

DFW and Love Field are just now getting back on track, so a bunch of people are likely going to be getting here late. Oh well. I won't be partaking in A-S festivities. |
I saw a weed killing tool in a catalog a few months ago, and seriously considered ordering it. It was like a small propane tank with a wand & nozzle. Now I really wish I had it, to clear my driveway!
Aha! Found it! Mini Dragon Propane Torch! I wonder if my insurance is paid up? ETA: This one seems a bit safer! |
Weather Forecast

^^ Win!
|
Priceless! Simply priceless!
Looks like we're back under another Winter Storm Warning, according to the weather folks. Just what we need here, more snow!!!!! SNOW IS FORECAST TO DEVELOP OVERNIGHT TONIGHT AS A STORM SYSTEM MOVES TOWARD THE MIDDLE OHIO VALLEY. SNOW... HEAVY AT TIMES... IS EXPECTED ON MONDAY. SNOW WILL DIMINISH IN COVERAGE AND INTENSITY MONDAY NIGHT. TOTAL SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS OF 5 TO 9 INCHES ARE EXPECTED... WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS. |
I adopted two kitties Friday so I need to add their food and litter (as well as water) to my emergency kit. The last thing I need during a disaster is a cat without the food it likes or the litter it likes crapping and complaining while we're snow bound or trying to make it to safety.

There are discussions around here that the government wasted somewhere around 100 million dollars just in calling off work last week. Ridiculous. And after an hour-long flurry yesterday afternoon that didn't even stick to the ground, the gov't was delayed 2 hours today.
Now, I'm originally from the snowbelt and am used to big storms, so I know I'm biased. But come on. On another note, anyone make it to the Dupont snowball fight?? I tried to walk to the corner of my street a few days ago and literally almost blew over a couple of times. I walked into Marvin's looking like I had just spent a week outside in the Arctic Circle. |

This area is not used to dealing with this kind of snow on the regular. This is not Colorado. |
The OPM announcement for today's delayed opening occurred when we were at a Scout meeting. A bunch of the parents who are fed employees/AD military reacted the same way the boys do when they hear school has a 2-hour delay. One of the ASMs said a fellow employee said it took 4 1/2 hours to travel from Manassas to downtown DC last Friday.
Rumor has it that FCPS is going to have delayed openings all week. |

Other than the government I think businesses need to do an analysis on their own of staffing to provide services while considering safety of employees. I had one job where we were super organized and had a phone tree and ride board, and I remember one snow I couldn't get my car out because of the morons who abandoned their vehicles in the street and parking lot, not because I am incapable of clearing and operating a vehicle in the snow. Since we had a plan in effect those of us who could physically walk to an intersection or other pick up point would, and managers and supervisors arranged for pick up with coworkers or did it on their own. Since it was a retail shop we felt it was important to be open for the community and without knowing who had vehicles, kids or elderly parents to care for, and school canceled (high school and college students) it wouldn't have been possible to adequately staff the store and prepare for deliveries of grocery essentials. Thankfully we were near paved walking trails/bike paths and a (which citizens cleared) and a bus route and those who needed essentials could get to the store with their sleds or on the bus. Everyone who pitched in during snow emergencies got overtime as well as personal time for the future and it really was good PR after the pharmacy stocked Plan B and we were labeled baby killers. |
It was snowing all day. I have decided that I don't particularly care for it. Hmm.

When my brother came over to borrow the snowblower, he had to shovel a way to get it out - and broke my snow shovel. The only one I could find was built for Paul Bunyan.
At my own house, I have a huge driveway where everyone in the neighborhood loves to park when I'm not there. Obviously, they don't like to shovel it, though. It took me 3 hours today to get a walking path just to the steps and thought I should probably get my will in order. Nobody's returning any calls for ploughing etc - yet I HAVE to at least check the house by Thursday! I always said that I wanted to own one of those little Bobcats... |
My sibling is a meteorologist assistant and they have to work regardless of the weather. Not doing so would defeat the purpose. They have meteorology carpools and vans to pick them up during inclement weather.
That sucks to me because I don't like bad or inclement weather and that goes for rain, sleet, or snow. I prefer to be off the roads and in the safety and comfort of my home (or office, if need be). |

Also, the courts around here are hesitant to shut down. So even if there's bad weather we may have to drive across the state for arguments or trial. |
Fifteen more inches of snow heading for eastern PA.
