An update on Whitney, Weston and Owen. Seems Owen has a liver disease.

I thought Weston and Whitney were a very sweet couple..I just think Whitney is a little delusional lol

Just watched Catelynn and Tyler's episode and nearly bawled my eyes out!! It must have been so hard to give up their baby for adoption, but the adoptive parents seemed to have it all together so good for them.

I realllllllllllllly disliked Catelynns mom...she was so mean to her daughter! I would have been proud of her..she was doing what was best for her baby and I thought it was so selfish of her mom to not support her and not sign the adoption papers. Same with Tylers dad being an ass to him. Plus..totally EWWwwww that Catelynns mom and Tylers dad got married!! Talk about selfish parents!!

I watched that episode too. I was completely appalled by literally everything their parents did!!! How dare her mother be so cold and mean because her daughter didn't want her child to have a messed up childhood like she did. They are so selfish and just plain screwed up it's not even funny. Plus, I say you should never listen to anyone who's still wearing a mullet. Because if they have the gall to do that Lord only knows what else they'd be capable of!

Good on these kids for making a better choice for their child.

Elephant Walk 07-18-2009 08:38 PM

The last episodes the kids were far, far more responsible than the parents.

It looked like the daughter in the episode had a touch of the downs too. I'm not sure she should have had kids.

1stSoon2BePhD 07-19-2009 01:20 PM

Catelynn & Tyler - BEST episode with the WORST PARENTS!

Catelynn and Tyler's episode was so backwards, in my opinion. The kids were being responsible and saying ALL the right things:
- "I can't have a child! I'M still a child!"
- "I want the child to have a better life than I have had"
- "I can't give the child everything that it needs"

And the parents were so irresponsible and stupid!!
- "You know I don't agree with adoption"
- "My son didn't man up and take care of his kid!"

The whole time I was watching this episode, my WTF:mad: siren was going off in my head! Though, I have to say, the children being mature enough to admit that they were not fit to be parents and going against what their mom & dad said made this the best episode so far... otherwise, it was one LONG train wreck!!

...I don't even think the parents being married to each other warrants any comment. We all know how messed up that is...

DreamfulSpirit 07-19-2009 02:50 PM

Catelynn and Tyler showed just how much more mature and responsible they are than their parents. I have to admit, I was teary eyed from when she gave birth, to the handing over of their daughter to the adoptive parents. Tyler's mom seemed to be ok with their decision, it was Catelynn's mom and Tyler's dad who seemed not to be supportive of their decision.

AOII_LB93 07-19-2009 03:56 PM

With their parents it's just goes to show ya that not everyone should be able to procreate.

KSUViolet06 07-19-2009 08:36 PM

I commend Catelynn for going through with it. It takes alot to do what is best for the BABY, as opposed to what your parents (or you or babydaddy) may want.

WVU alpha phi 07-20-2009 01:11 PM

Catelynn and Tyler's episode was sad. I was so happy when they decided to go through with the adoption.. I was worried that all their interaction with the baby at the hospital would change their minds!

Their parents are completely insane. I couldn't believe the POS mom refused to sign the adoption papers! My favorite line was the mullet dad saying "all that baby needs is love." Um, love doesn't feed, clothe, and diaper the baby!

$5 says that they don't work. That sounds like an "I don't have a job" kind of statement.

When people say that, I always think to myself "Try telling that to the social worker from Children's Services when they show up!"

VandalSquirrel 07-20-2009 06:17 PM

It was really touching for me that the adopting parents want a connection with the birth parents (Tyler and Catelynn), and will allow exchanging of photos and what not. The bracelet scene was so sweet. The parents not supporting adoption made me  because the kids needed support through this, not a bad attitude.

I'd also like to give props to Catelynn for realizing how this could have put her life off track and that she has to get her act together to go to college and prepare for any future children (though I doubt she and Tyler will stay together forever).

"All you need is love" is such crap...maybe we should blame the Beatles. It's the same reason why divorce is so high in this country. Love is not reason enough to marry someone or have a baby with someone. Those decisions should be made just as much with the BRAIN as with the heart (or OTHER organs, if you know what I mean).

I took a sociology class last semester, and people were saying that exact statement. They thought they were financially stable to have kids, even though they were both in school and primarily living off student loans and grants. I won't have a kid without health insurance, and hopefully owning a home (and I plan to be married). Financial aid is NOT income.

Xidelt 07-21-2009 05:03 AM

Wait! Their parents were married!? How did I miss that one??

They ONLY mentioned it in the opening part of the episode where the girl is introducing herself. I had to play it again because I couldn't believe it. And the girl even says that she and her boyfriend were together first so THE PARENTS are weird for getting together when their children are already dating.

WVU alpha phi 07-21-2009 12:45 PM

I thought the mom looked like a major meth head.

Penguin08 07-23-2009 10:33 PM

Sooo I'm watching the finale special and I'm very, very suprised that all of these couples are still together

joliebelle 07-23-2009 11:31 PM

So, the finale just ended and I'm just kind of dumbfounded. The only episodes that I caught before this were Ebony and Catelynn's. All of the girls admitted that they weren't using any type of birth control at the time. I do realize that all forms of birth control (except for abstinence) are not 100%, but why do girls put themeselves in these situations? It's really frustrating to see what seems to be mostly mature girls letting their boyfriend's control if they get pregnant or not.

And to the one girl who said she wasn't trying to get pregnant...if you're not using protection, then you're trying to get pregnant

/soapbox

The thing is that they're NOT mature. They're kids. All they were thinking about was having sex with their bfs. Not whether or not they wanted to get pregnant.

Also, some reasons teen girls put themselves in these situations:

*They "love" their bfs and think they'll "be together forever."
*They think "It won't happen to me."
*They can't go get the pill thelmselves and don't want to tell mom/dad that they're having sex so THEY can take them.
*Their bf says they don't want to use a condom. They don't want to tell bf "no" because they don't want bf to break up with them. So they do it anyway.
*They believe any number of stupid myths like "you can't get pregnant in a pool/standing up/your first time/whatever.

I could go on and on...

You're right, but a few of them seem to have gotten it together somewhat since their babies have been born. I guess because I wasn't one of those girls (i.e he loves me sOoOo much, and we're gonna get married, etc.), I don't *get* why they would do such a thing. Situations like these are why I feel we need comprehensive sex education.

I think this show is just a PSA for why "abstinence only" sex ed is a FAIL.

Oh, and to add on to my list of "why teens get pregnant":

*My mom had me really young and they're doing "fine" so it's ok (most likely the case with some of these kids).

CougarGrad 07-24-2009 03:26 AM

Another two to add to your "why teens get pregnant" list:

*My boyfriend doesn't have a condom, and I'm not on birth control, but I don't really care, we're horny, so... screw it.

*Well, now that we've already had unprotected sex, I'm probably pregnant anyway, so what's the point of using birth control now?

Sorry to say, that's not just teens. Like I mentioned earlier in this thread, I have a good number of friends my age (28) who are getting pregnant, totally by surprise. Some have been open enough to say what "went wrong"--and it's some of the same stuff.

Yep--which leads to "the quarterlife oops baby!"

Xidelt 07-24-2009 03:27 PM

I thought the finale was pretty good. The statistic that Dr drew gave about 3 in 10 teen girls getting pregnant made my jaw hit the floor! Sex Ed please!

WVU alpha phi 07-24-2009 04:31 PM

I thought the finale was too much like a counseling session. I tuned out after Dr. Drew harassed poor Maci for 20 minutes.

I too was really surprised all the couples were still together. Catelynn and Tyler are still wise beyond their years, and I teared up with Tyler said he sleeps with Carly's blanket every night and has a framed picture of them in his room.

Matsimela 07-28-2009 11:58 PM

Out of the entire season and even through the finale, Catelynn and Tyler are the only one's i could connect with. They were so so sooooo mature. I know they werent in the position to take care of Carly but they were the only ones i thought should have kept their baby.

Scully 08-02-2009 12:16 AM

^^Catelynn and Tyler were the only couple who truly looked like they were in love and still in love even though the odds were stacked against them. They stood up to their parents and did what their hearts told them to do. I cried when Tyler read aloud the letter he had written for his baby girl! That's the moment when he stepped up and became a man and took care of his child - unlike when Tyler's father asked him to "man-up" at the restaurant. I definitely think they did the right thing.

AOII_LB93 08-02-2009 04:55 PM

So I thought of this show while I was at Target today. I came out of the dressing room and my husband was in a crummy mood. I asked, "What's wrong?" His response, "I just saw a teenager with a baby. She was with her dad and they were talking about homework and buying supplies for the upcoming school year. Why didn't dad teach her not to get pregnany while still in HS? WTF is wrong with people? Doesn't she realize she's pretty much effed up her life now?"

I asked if it was maybe her sister or baby brother, and he said nope.

KSUViolet06 02-17-2010 12:15 AM

Gem from tonight's ep:

Girl: "He might not support me financially, but he supports me MENTALLY!!!"

Dad: "Mental support doesn't buy diapers or put food on the table."

Seriously though, the whole "babydaddy does nothing while girl and girl's family foot the bill for everything" situation is pretty crappy.

LOL @ babydaddy calling her a "piece of crap" on the phone, when he's jobless, drinking, and going to jail. You're awesome.

This girl is really something, esp. with the way she speaks to her mom who does EVERYTHING.

qbt1990 02-17-2010 03:28 AM

I hope all the girls on this new season aren't like the one tonight.... she was ridiculously immature.

Matsimela 02-17-2010 04:49 AM

Im still struggling with the concept of the show. MTV says they arent trying to glamorize teen pregnancy but...for how many seasons is that story gonna hold up? The 1st season only had 6 girls, this one has 10. And how do they even find these girls?

I tried watching this season premiere but i had to leave in the middle of the episode. But i can already tell these girls are gonna be a hot mess lol

I disagree Soror, I don't think they are trying to glam it up. These are the girls (families) agreeing to be filmed. Ppl with crummy lives (aside from the one family of 4 generations living in the trailer) don't want to have the world see it! I'd assume most teen moms who keep their baby lead similar lives. Meaning whomever is raising them helps them to raise their baby.

And I'm sure there is a link on the website now.... 'Are you 16 and just found out you're pregnant? Is your BI**H of a mom helping you, but hates when you go out? Is your babydaddy unlikely to stay around but you think you'll be 2gether 4ever? Want to be on the show?" :D

all Maury style? lol

I think 16 and Pregnant is doing a hell of a better job showing the truth about teen pregnancy, than "Secret Life of the American Teenager." Now that show glamorizes teen pregnancy.

joliebelle 02-17-2010 10:20 PM

Apparently Jennelle has an affinity for smoking pot. while pregnant.

http://community.livejournal.com/ohn.../44120994.html

twinkle555 02-18-2010 01:20 AM

Ugh Jenelle was NASTY. I get that her mom was kind of annoying (ok, her voice was..) but DAMN she did not have to talk to her that way.

By the end of the episode Jenelle looked like she dropped 50lbs...waay too skinny. Poor Jace :(

KSUViolet06 02-18-2010 01:23 AM

I love how she's getting ready to go out and her mom just LOSES it and is like "WTF do you think he is? A dog or a cat?"

haha yes..she just lets him "lie around the couch."

The scariest part about this episode is the way she got pregnant, one of my friends does that (stops taking her pill if she isnt around/hooking up with any guys, then restarts)..Ill have to show her this one!
