McCain called Obama and conceded!!!

My tears are still coming. I'm beyond stoked. I truly can't explain what I'm feeling but I don't have to because many of you know what I'm feeling because you are feeling it too!

Now I have to find out what's going on with Prop 8 here in California.

I broke down.

Seeing Jesse Jackson cry made me cry more which Mike found funny b/c he knows I can't stand the man.

I'm overwhelmed, and am not sure it has sunk in yet. What an amazing night, what an amazing campaign and journey.

Uhhhh holy shit - McCain's concession speech is actually fantastic. I'm literally stunned - wow.

I didn't expect any anyway.

I am a fan of this speech on the point that he mentioned how proud his grandmother must be of him in heaven.

The first African American President also more than qualified to run the White House..... this is a big moment for everyone:D:D:):D Now time to get down to business.

Word - all good, but it's expected that it's a (literally) partisan crowd, and the booing isn't considered insulting, but rather supportive for the candidate. In short - don't take it as anti-Obama. There's a reason why that exact moment is included in EVERY SNL skit ever - it happens on both sides, it's no big deal.

It's the furthest thing from uncouth. Hell - it's natural.

Absolutely - it's a good speech, and quite conciliatory.

(Although part of me can't wait for some members of this board to start tearing it apart. There has been ridiculousness on this board on both sides of the coin)

hmm. well my mom raised me better than that lol! i just cant help but realize these are the same voters that booed Mccain when he defended Obama a few weeks ago over that Muslim comment...i thought his speech was excellent and if i were a Republican i would have been proud of how eloquently he stood down.

That was more of the John McCain I expected to see on the campaign trail this year. Not what he became the last couple months.

So let me get this straight. You're disgusted by people booing at the mention of Obama's name durring McCain's concession speech but you're taking joy in the fact that Palin has lost a bit of poise after being part of a losing ticket?

I can't wait for Obama's speech. I expect it will be an incredibly historical moment.

From a historical perspective, it will be interesting to see how history judges the Palin selection. I've read a number of articles that criticized VP selections in the early 20th century; the only recent VP selection I can think of that was heavily criticized was the Bentsen selection when Dukakis ran (although, the Cheney selection could invite more discussion in the future).

I will be extremely interested to see the historical analysis of this election.

I think thousands (on both sides of the aisle) agree completely - unreal that McCain's best performance was his concession, but it does show why he was a viable candidate not too long ago. It's also proof that the landslide tonight has very little to do with McCain himself, but rather with the electorate as it exists today . . . we'll see how smart we really are, but it's definitely an awesome thing to watch, in the literal definition of "awesome" and not the Bill And Ted definition.

I honestly believe that VP selection had a big impact on this election. Alot of pundits say otherwise.. but ultimately I think that McCain's focus on fear and not enough on the economy is what cost him the election.. in 1992 the economy was the issue that got Clinton elected..
