I cannot believe that it was 5 years ago today. It totally slipped my mind until I got in the car and listened to a radio tribute.

:(

I was just listening to her "One in a Million" CD last week. I still remember where I was when I heard the news. It's a bittersweet memory indeed.

I remember where I was too. Me and my husband were on the turpike driving to Maryland for a Crabfest. I thought it was a lie until my mother called me and told me she saw it on the news. Just makes you remember to appreciate waking up every morning and telling the people that mean the most to you that you love them everyday.

I had just finished watching SNL when I heard the news. I had bad dreams the whole night and hardly could get out the bed the next day. :( I can't believe it's been 5 years already. I still have a hard time hearing "Rock The Boat".

I had just gotten in from an all day BBQ. I heard it on the radio, and I called a friend of mine to see if she had heard it because I just couldn't believe it to be true....I can't believe it's been 5 yrs either.

What a sad tragedy, I remember hearing the news and calling the messenger a liar. I couldn't believe it because I she was on fire with her career and just to young to be gone so soon in life.

I can't believe I got teary eyed just reading this thread.

Losing Aaliyah was like losing a classmate that everyone loved the day after graduation. She was my age, too.

I remember not being able to sleep and just watching the Rock the boat video in tears. Its amazing how God given gifts can move a persons spirit.

Ditto. She was only a few months older than me and this shows how fragile life is, especially for a young person. It really hit home after 9/11.

Wow! Time sure flies. I still have my tape of all the Aaliyah specials that were on MTV and BET after her death. I can't believe it's been 5 years since her passing and 9/11. And next month is the 10 year anniversary of Tupac's death. The newest XXL is dedicated to him, as they do every year.

I remember listening to her songs while at work the Saturday she died. My husband woke me up the next morning and told me to look at CNN. The caption was 'Remembering Aaliyah' and I was like they only do that when...I was just glad she had a few weeks for everyone to remember her before September 11. Five years pass by so fast.

Wow, 5 yrs already. I was at a party on the way to another. I quickly got on my 2 way and hit a few friends in the industry. It was crazy. May she rest in peace. Did they ever clear up that funeral bill issue?

wow...

5 years already.....I remember I had just got up and I always try to catch a few minutes of CNN in the mornings....my boyfriend at the time was such a HUGE Aaliyah fan..I really liked her too, when I was in high school her style helped me transition from my die hard tomboy phase to something a little softer..so I had mute on for some reason but on the screen they had her pic and the date born/date died year...I honestly couldn't process what I was seeing....I called him in the room and he just sat there and stared at the screen in silence...(typing this is making the hair on my arms stand up...)he was a hard a#$ kinda dude but I remember just watching him sit there and stare at the screen silently with tears rolling down his face...it was a heartbeating day...then 9/11....it was a heartbreaking year...:(

Time does fly. I didn't realize it has been that long either. Oh my. I truly miss her. I made a greatest hits CD of her songs when I first heard about her death. I still listen to it every now and then.
