:) Thank you. We're looking into a paid website so we don't have to have all of the ads. Unfortunately we can't do that until our first round of pledge fees come in (October 2008).

You can purchase domain names for under ten bucks. Go to godaddy.com or one of those domain registration sites. Then ask one of your school's graphic design students to do the work pro bono, in exchange for the experience.

Does your school offer hosting?

At my school, any student who had a .edu e-mail account could also have their website hosted. Clubs and organizations registered with the university also got the same privileges.

The visual layout of the page is just too much. There are too many patterns and boxes and boxes of patterns next to boxes of color. I think you should keep that pretty blue pattern in the back, and DO NOT revisit it in your text boxes. Use a single-color in the body part of your pages, using accenting colors/header/left-hand navigation bar if you so desire.

I, too, have a website and struggle with design. I'm just not a design-oriented person. My solution is to get inspiration from other websites. Sometimes you get so caught up in your own design, that you start to lose perspective on what is aesthetically pleasing. you starting thinking that something hideous is actually pretty good just because it is better than the previous version or because you spent hours working on it.

Check out other sorority websites. I know that many of those are professionally made, but you can find some design elements to copy in yours. I assume that you're using a user-friendly What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get (WYSIWYG) program, which can actually be really fun to work with, and surprisingly versatile.

Here are some simple website designs that you can get some inspiration from:

http://www.khgraphics.com/webdes2.htm

Good Luck!

Sorry, it's wrong in the title and wrong again here: the word is "IDEAS", not "IDEA'S".

I came to this forum full of excitement, ready to start a new sorority. I can no longer post on this forum without being brought down. I have been picked at for my spelling and grammar errors. I have been picked at for apologizing. And I have been insulted beyond belief. I will be leaving this forum and finding another. I hope that you and the other moderators do not take this personally. It is not you who is posting.

Not only that, she claims to "know me IRL." Nevermind the fact she lives in Canada and that I can count on one hand how many Canadians I actually know.

A PM stating the obvious (indicating that I've made my first name public and GCers have addressed me as such) went unreturned.

I know she's playing over at HPRL...I wouldn't be surprised if the resident troublemakers there have been feeding her "info" because I gave her a hard time.

I dunno even where that is--HPRL--I cannot keep up with the lingo y'all kids use these days. I thought "IRL" was on MTV or something... I wind up watching mostly Sportscenter these days... LOL. And why folks feeding any info about you? Isn't that just silly? Is there a point to doing that other than giving the illusion of a false sense of security and aire of superiority... It kinda pisses us off that actually are superior ( LOL )... Just kidding...

I hate when people ask for constructive criticism, but then get offended. I mean wouldn't you rather have us critique your site and tell you it's full of grammar and punctuation errors, than have potential members see it and say "I am not joining this, it looks like they didn't pass 3rd grade."
