Obama's run for the presidency isn't undone because of this situation. If it is undone, it's because of an overall sentiment that led Americans (read: a segment of whites) to demonize Wright (and Obama's relationship with him) in the first place.

I was surprised the NY Post used a pic of Wright throwing up the Omega hooks on the cover. I'm sure they were trying to portray him as unprofessional and a fool. I admit it isn't the most flattering of pics but he doesn't look foolish to those of us who know that he's an Omega. Ha.

Is he going to issue a disclaimer next telling the white people, who are afraid of what will happen if he is elected, that he's NOT going to "revenge slavery if he's elected to office?" Yes, there are whites who think this just like there are men (particularly white males) who think Clinton is going to revenge women if she's elected.

How about, is Obama next going to take back his comment about turning the White House bowling alley into a basketball court if he's elected? You know, that comment had to have made some people nervous and will be used by some to say "Obama's change isn't the kind of change we need...we don't want fish fries at the White House."

Oh well, I agree with Rev. Wright's comments and he has my endorsement for whatever he's running for right now. :p If he isn't running for anything then I need him to get back behind the pulpit and get his butt out of the political realm for a while.

^^I wish I could ignore it, but my feelings are really hurt. And for me, it is not the Obama-Wright thing, because I maintain that what Rev. Wright says and does really has no bearing on who Obama is; Rev. Wright is just the latest in a long line of scare tactics that the media has used to attempt to derail Obama's campaign. It's that Rev. Wright has been slandered and villified by the media, and I can sympathize with his attempts (finally) to defend himself while k.i.m.

@Chaos: But he has always been just this socially/politically engaged. He really is just being Jeremiah Wright, no more, no less; only now, there are a bunch of cameras in his face. I still wonder if they would have been at the NAACP meeting had he not been there. While I regret that this is being used to attack Obama, I have to say that if it were a difference between me continuing to live my life and do me(because Rev. Wright did decline interviews for a good while) or hiding away for the next seven months, I would keep living my life.

What is interesting to me is that no one has mentioned or even discussed the idea of preaching as performance.

Oh I know that he's always been vocal and shook hands with politics and stuff. He's always been a figure in some of our communities. But now things are different and he needs to acknowledge that difference before it runs away from him. He isn't part of Obama's campaign, so I'm not saying to take a break because of that. I'm saying to take a break so that he can regroup and figure a way to get his MESSAGE to outweigh his IMAGE again.

He should definitely keep living his life, and speaking the truth, and not go into hiding. But I also don't believe that he's doing business the way he was before the mainstream spotlight was placed on him.

But Obama is a politician, not a preacher; the two roles have different obligations and responsibilities.

OK, maybe I will give you that. I don't know, it's been a long day; I have to think about it more.

i agree with you. it isnt this isolated incident. it definitely is the larger picture. but more people will look at it from this isolated perspective.

Nope. And CNN said as much. Before the speech started the anchor said viewers were criticizing them for only showing 30 second soundbites. The powers that be made an editorial choice to show the whole speech live.

I agree with you on this. I didn't have a problem with his speeches at NAACP and the Press Club. But, I was disappointed with the way he acted during the Q&A session. He could have simply answered the questions without all the clowning.

Obama had to denounce Wright and respond to what Wright said about Obama specifically. Obama admitted that he didn't know Wright as well as he thought he did and wasn't as close as he thought.

While I agree with the viewpoints that Wright initially expressed, he is doing too much. He has way too much experience and education to NOT know what impact his actions from this point on (not just what he said behind the pulpit) can have on the Obama campaign. He also knows about race and America so, unless he's being paid by the Clintons or the Repubs, he needs to have a seat. Not go into hiding or take back everything he said behind the pulpit about race and this country, but have a seat on that other nonsense.

I am really saddened by the turn of events. Rev . Wright really had a chance to turn the legitmate media around and also blount Fox News and the attacks of right-wing radio. Instead, he played right into their hands with the foolishness of that Q & A session. There is a time to berate the American Govt and espouse conspiracy theories, and even to praise Farakhan, but not at the expense of the hopes of the Black community and its chance of a Black president. You have to be smarter than to play into the hands of the enemy. Black folks may have been laughing and applauding, but Americas puppetmasters were dancing a jig.

I am glad that Rev Wright put himself out there at this time (hopefully it will be the last time during the campaign). I think that he was able to paint a more complete picture of himself. However, I think that Obama HAD to 'denounce' him to save his campaign and Rev Wright's 'antics' gave him the opportunity to do so. The press is reflecting that Bro Wright has been eerily silent since the Obama press conference; I believe that this is intentional. All Obama has to do now is no longer entertain questions related to this topic in an unequivocal and discussion-ending tone. Now he can get on with the business of becoming our next president!

BTW, if this 'controversy' is all his opponents have on him, he is definitely a shoo-in. Clinton and McCain have enough baggage to overflow several train cars!
