Bump for the family that decided to bring their four children to a 10:00 PM showing of X-Men Origins on a Sunday night. I cringed when I saw the stroller. Surprisingly the baby never made a sound. However, their son decided to wonder off and scream “Hi Daddy!” during the finale.
I must be jinxed. I haven’t seen a movie since a midnight showing of the last Batman movie at one of those dinner theater places and there were kids sitting directly behind me talking the whole freaking time. What the hell is wrong with these parents? Are they oblivious or just completely inconsiderate? |

My opinion: If it is NOT a kids movie, leave your kids at home. Don't have a sitter? Then don't go to the movies. Go do something that they can do with you--without annoying the crap out of other patrons. |

Saturday.
Wolverine. The annoying older lady 2 seats down, saying the following: "Oh my word." about 6 times "Oh no" countless times. "OmyGodOmyGodOmyGod...he is going to kill him" at every fight scene. At the end of the movie chastising the kids by saying "I thought you said that was a KID'S MOVIE!!" IT WAS PG 13 FOR PETE'S SAKE AND YOUR KIDS LOOKED OLD ENOUGH TO HANDLE IT!!! Don't blame THEM because YOU couldn't! |

Speaking of PG13 movies that aren't kids movies one of my movie pet peeves is when people bring their kids to see movies that arent age appropriate. During American Violet a huge group of little ones came in (with ONE adult who looked like he was the "camp counselor" or after school program leader). It was already 20 minutes into the movie. Of course they did all the talking and shhh-ing. Then after they'd talked through many parts of the movie and about 6 threats from camp counselor dude he follows through on his threat to make them leave for talking during the movie. Then they file out row by row (talking) and he says "Shhhh, We'll just have to catch it another time." My other pet peeve is when they don't clean the floor. I remember one time the b/f and I went to the movies and when we got up to leave we had to peal/rip our feet off of the floor because it was so sticky. |

And I hate sticking to the floor, too. The boy hates when I give someone "the look", but he certainly appreciates it when people turn their cell phones off after I make a loud comment about being raised by wolves. |

Last summer, I went to see The Dark Knight, and I spotted not one but two toddlers, and several elementary-school-aged children. One of the toddlers began crying during the movie. After several minutes of ineffective hushing, mom took the toddler outside... whereupon the other toddler immediately began crying, and continued crying for another half hour or so (the toddler's parents did not remove him/her). That has to be my biggest movie pet peeve. I also get annoyed when people yak to each other during the movie, when they yak on a cell phone during the movie, or when a cell phone rings during the movie (turn it off, for crying out loud!). I paid to hear (and see) the movie, not to hear you, your cell phone, or your undisciplined brat. |
Some parents brought their three year old to a midnight showing of the second Blade movie.
When that kid turns into a sociopath, they will be wondering why. |
I could have understood this more back in the day when the theater was the only place to see an uncut movie.
But nowadays? Holy crap, chill out, it'll be on video or on demand in 6 (if not fewer) months!! You can see it for a lot less, no one cares if your kids scream, and if they do, you can rewind it and watch that part again. I think the loss of drive-in theaters is a contributor to this. Lots of parents would get their kids into their jammies then take them to the drive-in. Of course everyone was in their own cars so no one cared. My belief is that these are parents who think the world is a drive-in. |

The most irritated I've been at a movie lately was this year when I went with my sister in law to see Twilight. First, we sat in front of a large group of people who had mutliple small children with them. Besides talking through out the movie, the little girl behind my sister in law started kicking the back of her seat. We turned around to complain and the "father" glared at us so menacingly that we got up and moved.
At the new seat, there was a man and his date sitting down the row from us. They started carrying on a complete conversation during the movie - I mean if you want to talk, why would you pay to see a movie???? So, we moved again. The only available seats were in the front of the theater where a number of teens were sitting. There were kids texting, talking, checking their phones, etc. Needless to say, we didn't enjoy the movie, and have Xed that theater off our list of places to go see a movie. It seems like a new theater will open up and for a bit, there will be decent clientelle, then I guess word gets around and all these sketchy "raised by wolves" type people start showing up there... I've gotten to where I'll only go see a movie at the theater if it would TRULY lose its luster by waiting and watching it at home - like the new Star Trek - that, I want to see on the big screen... |

And sometimes waiting for the hoopla over a movie to die down sometimes works.... |
