A few years back, my husband and I went to a friend's wedding. Let's call her "Sara".

It was dead obvious to anyone who knew Sara that her mother had had a lot of say in her registry. The registry included a setting for SIXTEEN, including wine glasses that cost $50 EACH. I doubt Sara and her husband would be entertaining seven other couples at once, particularly given that they live in an itty bitty apartment.

We gave them a check, so that they could buy things they might actually need and use.

I just checked one of my friends' registries, and they have registered for not one, but TWO sets of Lincoln Logs. Different sets of course. :p I thought it was funny.

Is their first baby going to be, ummmmmm... "premature" ? ;)

I'm not sharing my Lincoln Logs with some man.

WHAT??? Lincoln Logs come with plastic crap now? I'm not that old but I still remember building a cabin and trying to get the wood "shingels" to stay on top of it. What is this world coming to...I'll tell ya what, Honest Abe never had any plastic with his logs...

I hope you buy them! I enjoy finding the more interesting requests and buying those rather than the standard wine glass or plate.

One good friend of mine registered for an electic toothbrush and replacement toothbrush heads. As a joke, I gave the replacement toothbrush heads as part of her shower gift. She had to wait the other 4 months for the toothbrush (that was the wedding gift).

I had lived out from college for three years before I met FI- he didn't have anything, but it was good cause i have EVERYTHING. My aunt and I are really close and she had given me everyday dishes- set of eight, then later she gave me the entire dining room set (china cabinet, table, buffet) and the china and silver she didn't want anymore.

We have all the daily needs, but we are registering for the china pattern I want, the formal silver we like, and new everyday dishes and flatware mainly because what I have isn't really me, and he doesn't like it either. We are also registering for nice sheets and plush towels. Other than that, a few small electric appliances for the kitchen, some practical kitchen things, and maybe some items we want for decorations.

I really don't know what to register for, and I am like the earlier poster, I don't want a million frames, a million small appliances we don't need, etc. Ugh.

I know lots of couples who register for board games, and I those are always my favorite gifts to give, because I'll usually get them one or two they asked for, then a small travel-sized game so they can take it on their honeymoon. (one couple was obsessed w/ scrabble, so much so that they had a honeymoon scrabble tournament w/ the magnetic board I gave them).

As for me and my husband-to-be...don't think we're going to register. Not because we have everything, in fact, we have nothing because we haven't lived together, but because we're most likely going to live in Scotland and we can't be lugging dishes here with us. Sooo, we might register for small/packable things (sheets), but aside from that, we're hoping that the lack of registry and the word-of-mouth of our move will give people enough direction if they decide to give a gift.

Do register for nice linens - or you will get hundreds of picture frames and vases.

When hubby and I were making our registry, we went from one end of the apartment to the other. We made a list of everything we needed replaced, wanted upgraded and really wished we had on a regular basis or when hosting guests, before we went to the stores to register. My favorite and most used gift is still my toaster oven-four years later. We are very practical people though, and really didn't want unneeded clutter.
