Really? Sororities have ranks and tiers? I never knew that!!! And silly me thinking that the only thing that mattered when you were rushing is how you perceived the actual sorority at your actual campus! Wow, if I'd only known, then surely I would have been more concerned with these "national elite rankings" because that would really have made me more elite and prestigious at my campus, despite the campus culture or my own personal feelings about said elite organizations.

/Sorority tiers exist. The only place they matter is in your mind.

Since the 3 chapters' names aren't mentioned directly, I'm sure she meant that AEPhi is one of those "absolutely wonderful" sororities. ;)

I was sort of thinking the same thing - obviously we all know that on an individual campus it happens, maybe even in a cluster of nearby campuses where students interact quite a bit.

But I don't think its terribly relevant on a national level...at least not to the extent that she was describing.

dream*a*dream, I think you have a very valid point, even if it's not the politically correct opinion -- it's yours and I think it has merit.

I'd agree. It's common knowledge at Duke, for example, that there are the "Core Four" sororities (I won't name them for obvious reasons -- if you're curious, Google is your friend) then everyone else. Back in the 80s when I was there I don't recall that term being used, but the same four chapters (and I'd include another, BTW) were always considered "top tier".

I don't think anyone is denying that such tiers exist on individual campuses...however, the person was implying that there was some sort of inter/national tiering system for organizations as a whole. Not just individual chapters on individual campuses.

(Reminded me a lot of that long PM that BamaDad received...)

Lily1909 06-19-2007 07:10 PM

I don't think anybody would take issue with the fact that some groups have bigger national organizations, more alumnae groups, undergrad chapters, etc. It's just how it is. Campus tiers exist sometimes too (for better or for worse).

My concern is that dream*a*dream is equating "top tier" with "absolutely wonderful". Notice the quotes below:

"with 3 of those chapters you definitely would have had a rush that *dreams* were made of. i am totally impressed, those are absolutely wonderful chapters"

"You have 3 absolutely wonderful sororities with highly prestigious ratings and rankings nationwide."

Well of course! and so are the others!

ETA: I think it's realistic to admit that some GLOs can have a regional dominance, that some groups have a higher national profile, and that some campuses have tiers. Other than the local tiers, I don't know how much the others matter in your Greek experience really and the local tiers may matter less than you think.

I agree - I think all four organizations are absolutely wonderful. Not just three of the four ;)

Every NPC/NPHC/multicultural sorority has characteristics that make it absolutely wonderful to its members.

I'm interested to see where Faith4Keep preffed...
