i agree with peppyghib!! go visit the fraternities who seemed interested in you and were friendly to you and other potential members. just forget about the stuck up fraternity!!

If you didn't click with that group, there's still plenty of others to check out. I'd probably give them another chance just to see if there's anyone else in the group you DO mesh well with, but still...you have options, so I wouldn't worry about it. Good luck!

I thought the 5 referred to EurAsia instead of 2 seperate continents?

That must depend on where you are from...Europe and Asia are considered two from my understanding of most European educational institutions.

HereICome...sorry to hear about your experience...some people just don't know how to recruit new members, and ignore them instead of getting to know them like they are supposed to. I'd say move on and find other chapters who may be more interesting.

Hi people,
Sorry that I didn't let you guys know how my rush has been going. I'm taking notes everyday and I'll post everything once the rush is done. I just don't want this topic to cost me a bid so I'll wait another week to let you guys know of everything. Wish me good luck!

HereICome 01-28-2007 12:45 AM

I'm scared. What if they don't offer me a bid. :( I've been hanging out with one fraternity I really like. I go to all of their events and spend time with them. It seems like majority of the guys in this fraternity like me but a couple of the guys seem like they are avoiding me. Whenever I tried to approach these guys and start conversation with them they would usually say "hey why don't you go pick something to eat from the table" or something like that and that worries me. In the other hand these couple of guys spend most of their time with sorority girls instead of rushees so that might be it. I'm still worried and I bet they won't offer me a bid.

Try not to worry. It tends to shine through when you're not confident and you might end up not presenting yourself in the best light (e.g. you could come off as awkward or desperate). If you're convinced they won't offer you a bid, then it may turn into a self-fulfilling prophecy. Just try to zen it and get in the mindset that whatever happens, happens. There's nothing you can do to control their decision on giving you a bid so focus on having good interactions with the guys you're most comfortable with and see where that takes you.

The guys that seem like they're avoiding you may not like you, true, but they may simply not be good with small talk. Speculation on what they think of you will only drive you crazy, so focus on the best case scenario. Good luck!

Stef the Pef 01-28-2007 02:58 AM

That's cool that one's already starting to stand out to you. Good luck! Don't worry about the guys who clam up too much. Just be yourself and enjoy the events.

HereICome 01-28-2007 03:50 AM

If the fraternity that I want to join has 50-60 members, do all of them have to like me in order for me to receive a bid from them?

AGDem 01-28-2007 05:14 AM

Chill out, seriously. The more you work yourself up over this, the more scared you'll be at the events and they'll detect that, which is not something you want. But don't limit yourself to just this fraternity, keep your options open.

As for the size of the fraternity and your chances of getting a bid, I don't know. I don't think anyone here can give you a fair answer, each orginization choses their members in through different processes, which most orginizations are not allowed to talk about.

HereICome 01-28-2007 05:57 AM

I understand. This semester there aren't many rushees around. I visited most of the houses and most of them have about 5-10 rushees with some houses having 3 rushees only. If houses get too picky in their selections they might end up with almost no pledges this semester. In my campus greek life isn't very big (only about 4%) so houses in my campus might not be as picky as houses in southern campuses.

AGDem 02-01-2007 09:38 PM

Any updates?

HereICome 02-03-2007 12:23 AM

Next week I'll post the whole story because that's when rush ends and bids will be given.

Stef the Pef 02-03-2007 12:21 PM

YAY! Good luck, HereICome!
