Also I tried to join the army in 2003 and would have ended up there. Thank god I'm permanently disqualified. See, I wasn't always such a hippie liberal. |
From the Editorial/Op-Ed Cartoons:

Rumsfeld reminds me of Robert McNamara -- the Sec. of Defense during Vietnam.
I've seen what I consider to be parallels between the two conflicts ever since this latest one began -- which has bothered me all along. In my judgement, civilians, even those with a lot of management experience and political savy, don't do well at dictating how to run wars to the professional military. There must be oversight, but the iron fist approach hasn't worked well. ETA, that goes for Presidents, too. |
Newt was right. Had he been replaced 2 weeks ago, congress might have remained Republican.
I would only advocate a general that doesn't believe in ground troops and is OK with destroying cities with missiles. We give too much charity to people who don't deserve it. -Rudey |
Is it in bad form that I wanted to cheer when I found out he stepped down?

And a “senior adviser” to Rumsfeld is leaving the Dept. of Defense for a think tank position:
http://releases.usnewswire.com/GetRelease.asp?id=76406 Excerpts from Brookings press release: Peter W. Rodman, currently serving as assistant secretary of defense for international security affairs, will join the Brookings Institution as a senior fellow, Brookings President Strobe Talbott announced today. Rodman will be affiliated with the Foreign Policy Studies Program in the new year. . . . Most recently, as assistant secretary of defense for international security affairs, Rodman has been a senior adviser to the secretary of defense on the formulation and coordination of security strategy and policy with respect to most regions of the world, including Asia, the Middle East and Europe. . . . |
